GAA Discussion / Re: Tadgh Kennelly Marathon Run
September 01, 2007, 10:56:24 AM
Fair play to Taigth - but he gets paid for his sports - a real sportsman is someone who dosent need to get paid for to play his chosen sport.  People like DJ Carey, Enda mc Nulty, Paul Mc Grane will always be  real sportsmen.   Unfortuinately taigth is a professional sportsman that is something quite different and fair play to him for achieving that.  He is a real gentleman though and the run is a superb idea and I hope he wins the race.

GAA Discussion / GAA coverage in the media -
August 31, 2007, 01:31:57 PM
I will run this poll for 4 days so we can see if they feature coverage of some of the many well attended club championship matches on over the weekend.

I believe That Mr Cavlan had retired from Tyrone football immediately after the All ireland quarter final so what would you like Mickey Harte to do exactly?  Burn him out!!! ::)

No answer Indiana on your own personal allegation about Mr Cavlan being the head of a dog fighting ring.  Fianl time Are you still standing over that comment?  T Fearon - obviously Armagh feature heavily in the documentary.  Ill remind you that Mr Cavlan was born in Armagh and still very much considers himself an Armagh man, but has played his football in Tyrone and for Tyrone teams due to his family moving there. The Armagh connection in this whole story cannot be underestimated and could indeed be the major factor.  Nobody else can comment without seeing the documentary.

Indiana - are these your words or can you tell me were you quoted them from?

I think its important that we recognise the BBC for what it really is the media instrument of the British empire.  If it takes its brief from that state and its turbulent history then by its very nature it will suppress other nations news cultures and sports and dripfeed back to us their edited take on them all.  Theres nothing new or newsworthy to this but just dont expect more from an alien states propoganda medium than that.  They are entitled to do it, they pay for it.  Gweltah is an Irish person born and bred on Irish land with Irish ancestry but obviously believes in the British way of life, I find that charming and artificial but unfortunately he/she is not as British as Finchley - he she is as Irish as Paul Mc Grath, Liam Neeson, Gerry Adams or Gay Byrne.  Some people need their TV channels to reassure them - others can separate the myth form reality or at least try to.

last 2 stories I have seen on the BBC about the GAA.  Over the last 3 days were:
1) Sectarian abuse hurler returns to GAA
2) Talented GAA players leaving in their droves to go to Australian rules.
3) Presume Cavlan will make TV tonight
Not one mention of the AI hurling final teams but plenty of Rangers on the field coverage.
Fox news is very much alive and in our country, not any wonder Gweltah etc cant have a good word to say about the GAA. Objective and fair - my arse.
