Quote from: bennydorano on October 02, 2024, 11:30:44 AMDont think a full scale regional war is on the cards. Iran's attack was a choreographed show of anger, they supposedly notified Russia and the US of their intentions, all for show domestically. But.. Will Netanyahu let their actions slide again

I'd imagine the Iranians knew in advance that Israeli defences would handle everything they sent and human casualties would be minimal if any.

If Israel response results in massive damage to Iran, especially human, who knows where it goes. And for the military experts on here, how dangerous are Iran to Israeli defenses if they actually went all out with their full might? Is there a level of barrage that Israeli defenses cannot handle and missiles start getting through?

Also on a cost scale, I'd imagine the Iranian salvo was cheap and simple enough in the grand scheme of things. But I'd imagine the Israeli defence missiles cost a fair bit in comparison. At what point does it start to hurt the military financially or will US keep writing blank cheques.

There's no blank cheques, these things will be paid for somewhere down the line, that payment comes in many different forms

I don't think the Americans made Iran do it

Actually they did, bombing the sh.t out of hezbollah who are a proxy army of Iran. The Americans are as responsible as Isreal for this god awful mess. They have been itching to get at Iran for years now as their OiL output doesn't sit well with Saudi Arabia.

Jaysus

The Yanks must be even more stupid thank I ever thought

First off, under Obama, they let the Iranians restart their nuclear Program.

Then crazy Uncle Joe unfroze $6B in Iranian assets last year

Makes perfect sense to start a war with them now

I'm not sure they are missing 6b, but if it suits your narrative

Market value of Iran's total oil reserves at international crude price of $75 per barrel stands at ~US $10 trillion. In the early 2000s, leading international oil firms from China, France, India, Italy, the Netherlands, Norway, Russia, Spain, and the United Kingdom had agreements to develop Iran's oil and gas fields.

I'm lost! So the Jews killed JFK and put the  blame on Castro/Mafia/Oswald (take your pick) to not be registered and then what's China got to do with it?

These guys are on the weed 24/7

GAA Discussion / Re: Ulster Club SFC 2024

Quote from: general_lee on October 01, 2024, 12:10:22 PMI'd have near fancied Clann Eireann to make a dent in Ulster this year only for the Armagh winners having to face the Derry champions in first round.

You have to beat the best to be the best, meeting the Derry champions in the first round probably easier than the final, I'd say this years its a bit more even with all the teams that come through their own championship, they would fancy themselves to go all the way, even the Tyrone ones  ;)

Quote from: theskull1 on October 01, 2024, 11:47:47 AMVery much feels like war with Iran is the ultimate plan in the middle east. Might the failed trump assassination attempt have set these plans back a few weeks?

If Iran don't engage directly with Israel after their invasion of Lebanon, I'd fully expect a/another(??) false flag in the US to fire them up to get involved in an all out war with Iran.

They will feed the Lebanon with as much weaponry as they possibly can, and by doing so will be carrying out the same as the US and others, going direct with Iran is not going to happen, I know they have used less of excuses for other wars but globally any support Israel had after the Oct attack is gone.

60% of the UK public in a poll in April wanted a halt in supplying arms to Israel, probably much higher now

Quote from: nrico2006 on October 01, 2024, 11:16:36 AMA bit shocked at the teacher getting jail time for this compared to other, more serious offences that result in suspended sentences.

The video in this link, showing his arrest, is hilarious.

https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/articles/c4gxxjxgzjyo.amp

He should be jailed first and foremost for being a dick, it was never ok to say those things to anyone 40 years ago  and in todays society he was a complete moron for thinking he can say those things and get away with it!

Quote from: Milltown Row2 on October 01, 2024, 08:40:00 AMAt what point do normal civilised Israelis realise that their kids that go to war will not make it back?

Bonkers to think that there will be a series loss of life and that they are supporting with their kids

Gaza was a stroll for their army but this place won't be, they'll get some more backing from Iran.

I wouldn't bet on it. US went in and slaughtered Iraq.. I doubt Iran could withstand Israeli attack (backed by US)... is Hitler all over again except is no-one can withstand their force.

Well, lets see now that the bear is being poked

Either way that area will never be the same again, I totally expect terrorist attacks in countries that have rolled in behind Israel

Quote from: From the Bunker on September 28, 2024, 09:57:55 AMNo offence, but this is such a tiresome thread. People listing (in the main) really popular songs from really popular Bands/Groups/Individuals.

It's as thought provoking as the arguments of who is the best football player in the world during the Messi/Ronaldo era.

You should try out the US threads, or Russian and Israel threads, they are tiresome

Quote from: David McKeown on September 27, 2024, 12:51:30 AMPerhaps it was my misunderstanding of the original post but I thought you were suggesting that the reason for all these conditions were what you were suggesting. That's not been my experience. I don't want to discuss my family's situation on a public forum but from my own point of view my for example obesity is not entirely self inflicted. I suffer from a myriad of other health problems which can heighten likelihood of obesity.

Whilst there's no doubt some try to game the system with autism and adhd there are plenty who for example can't talk as a result and their parents were healthy normal aged adults with no history of similar conditions. I think it's highly insulting to use broad brush strokes to categorise those who are neuro diverse

These are general broad based reasons, there will always be (and they are within those links) other reasons, it's not entirely specific to causes which are preventable but we certainly don't help ourselves.

As for adhd and autism, that's definitely in my family at different levels and dealing with that is not easy, people strive for reasons as to why, some conditions are easily explained some not so.

Can I be better with my choices? A 1000% I can, do I want to though lol?

I try and strike a balance, unlike Last Man, Im not full on but after bumping into him last week he's looking good for an aul fart  :D

To summarise my posts here, there are plenty of things we can be doing to help us have a healthier life, but sure, there are some uncontrollable things which will happen.

My dad's family (all the brothers bar one) got cancer, my sister had it also, I certainly live a better life than my dad, but who knows? Maybe it's just there!

Quote from: Milltown Row2 on September 26, 2024, 01:04:04 PMObesity: Self inflected
autism: no single cause but yes there is a train of thought that exposure to pesticides can be one reason, age of parents when giving birth and genetic factors can come into play
adhd: Well parents can mainly take the blame for this one, what they consumed before and while pregnant
asthma: can be past down if parents have it, and people had asthma long before vaccines
diabetes: Generally self inflected
cardiovascular disease: can be mainly self inflected
dementia: mainly age related but certainly like all f these lifestyle choices don't help
Alzheimer's: mainly age related but certainly like all f these lifestyle choices don't help
Strokes: very preventable but some family history of it and Ethnicity can be a reason. but mainly poor life style choices, though her mum had one,  great lifestyle, healthy, so other than stress which she has, it was the main reason I feel for hers
Arthritis: can be just down to old age, self inflected through sports, injuries, wear and tear because of weight

There are plenty of other illnesses that can be prevented or certainly reduced, but having worked in a surgery for many years and seeing the types of people coming in, it would take some sea of change to reverse all of that and I think the horse has bolted, and if you have any sense start looking after yourself now.

On a good note I had a hearty farmer in with me earlier today, 76 years old still manning the farm from 5 in the morning till 6 at night, no medication, not much weight on him, couple of beers with dinner, glass of wine and bed! repeat 7 days a week lol!

As for the doctors, I wouldn't stick them on the gestopo list just yet, the system doesn't allow them to care after patients the way it was intended, its the system that's fucked, not the doctors
Dyslexia: Self inflected.

Ironically despite being heavily dyslexic I got this joke.

I'm more concerned about the autism and adhd theories and the over simplification and completely outdated view of both diabetes of the obesity issues.

ADHD can be passed down, lots of views on this with parents and children having similar types of adhd, it's not always the typical stereotype though. Especially in women, alcohol and drug use also been linked to contribute towards this.

As for the Autism that's a view that's been held for a while. But as I said no cause can be totally singled out.

I think we all knew someone looking back that had adhd ( I know I had those traits as a kid) and autism but it wasn't spoken about. Now it gets ya dla so it helps to have it, I jest of course but social media the internet makes things more recognisable and it's discussed more.
