Quote from: Armagh18 on May 27, 2024, 07:52:05 PMDecent pubs in Derry for before and after?

Would Derry be busy the Sunday night, looking at staying over either the Saturday or Sunday night.

Stout drinker? If so, YouTube Guinness Guru Derry and visit the 6 bars, all seriously good stout!

Mary Bs, The Celtic and Maileys would be the closest. 10 min dander and you're at the Park Bar & Derby Bar. Quick 1 or 2 in each. Another wee dander you can hit the likes of the Rocking Chair, Gweedore and Peadars on Waterloo St... You won't go thirsty!

Quote from: balladmaker on May 27, 2024, 07:49:35 PMBeen a few years since I've been to Celtic Park.  What's the parking situation like in the area?

Parking is a disaster at the best of times, worse at the minute with roadworks on the Foyle road that have been going on for months at this stage so best avoid coming into the town via the lower deck

Be as well parking at the carpark opp the City Baths on William St and walk? 20 mins on foot give or take

Quote from: naka on May 27, 2024, 05:14:45 PMDerry / Armagh really fancy a draw .
Means all to play for

The group stages of the AI has alot of detractors, but each group after a game has its own permutations, with teams jostling for a table topping finish, or hoping for a 2nd place finish to gain home advantage in a q/f qualifier. Finish 2nd and it's 3 weekends in a row (potentially if all goes well).

If Sunday's game finishes in a draw, we've Westmeath down the country somewhere and Armagh Galway. Tbh I'm not sure how either Galway or ourselves are fixed atm. On paper Galway has a team that could win an AI. We're shy a half back line that helped propel us to back to back Ulsters and a few brilliant outings @ HQ.
2 more weeks will definitely bring on on the likes of Finnerty and McDaid. But, I wouldn't be surprised if Armagh come away with the 2 points when they meet. Rian O'Neill could be back to strengthen a formidable Armagh side. All Armagh had to do in Clones from the 55th minute on was score another point. That's how close they are to the likes of Donegal who are now being mentioned in the same breath as Kerry and Dublin as potential winners.

Looking like it'll be a sell out at Celtic Pk, it's not knockout, but it'll be some battle with a fair bit riding on the result

Quote from: Armagh18 on May 27, 2024, 05:27:09 AMEither way will Harte spend more than 2 years at Derry? Is O'Rourke still over Glen at the minute?

I've 2 years in my head, no rhyme nor reason re my thinking right enough.

Harte and Horse have only just started.. A two and a half legged dog took a four legged dog to their very limit in Salthill. The championship is just finishing it's soundcheck.  ;D

Quote from: bennydorano on May 26, 2024, 02:33:38 PMHard luck Armagh. Don't see Derry winning any All Ireland tbh, very easily nullified today by a team they beat by 17 pts a few weeks ago. Then again it's hard to know how the provinces measure up and if they'll give Derry the free reign to do what they like.

Very strong Derry panel this year, will take a quare team to beat them. Armagh setup for damage limitation from the throw in and fair play to them. They put in some shift

Quote from: Sportacus on May 26, 2024, 02:07:32 PMDreadful game in my opinion.  Pulling everyone back inside the 45 and the other team throwing it around in front of them.  The number of backward passes is embarrassing.  Sad to see young lads buying into this over-coached bollix. The only thing it has going for it is it might be a close finish. No wonder stadiums are empty.

Tell us how you would have set Armagh up to try to win the final today considering their last game? Just go for it?

Well done Mackers, big Gavin and squad. Dublin next

Quote from: Wildweasel74 on May 23, 2024, 06:46:47 PMR Dougan,J Doherty,M Warnock are 3 of the Glen men. Straight of the top of my head, [Yes 2 ain't playing for Glen at the minute, abroad, and Gallagher never gave J Doherty a chance.) P Cassidy abroad, P McNeil left, no game time, four lot others left, with no game time either plus a few cut, with long term injuries. We cant hit a 45 on a regular basis but R Connery[ Castledawson] and Kielt [ Kilrea Youngest one) in club football can. As noted, Derry are in their 8th Minor final in 10yrs. Derry along with Tyrone should be the Ulster counties with the greatest depth.Derry going well but can't hold a indepth panel. Armagh won nothing, but can?

Quote from: imtommygunn on May 23, 2024, 01:54:17 PMwhat'd he say about enda mcnulty? Paul Grimley, David Gough and Cavanagh way out of line with. I haven't really listened much to him since. Doesn't seem to understand that RTE were absolutely bang on to get rid of him.

He's been relentlessly mockinging him for years seemingly for no other reason than because Enda writes self-help books, which are something Joe dislikes. He's written numerous columns down the years attacking him and mocking him for it, and he had a podcast a few months back obstensibly about his views on self-help books but which was essentially just an episode dedicated to Enda bashing. It included a bit where he told a story of how he and Enda were once both speaking at a school prizegiving in Newry and the general gist of the whole story was: 'When Enda's speech was over, I was introduced as the main speaker and I got up and belittled Enda and oh the place exploded and everyone thought I was hilarious'.

Add Eoin Bradley and Marty Morrissey to the list

Quote from: JoG2 on December 12, 2023, 11:29:09 PMI suppose they'll be various speed wobbles along the way, part and parcel of committees.. From the outside looking in, it's not so bad (performance wise)

The problem is that there was alot of work done behind the scenes when McKeever got the V Chair post. He put together a football committee (they were side-lined as they were holding certain people to account)that shaped the high performance aspect of the county teams. That was designed to bring continuity to our county teams regardless of who was in charge, the managers might change but the elite performance aspects would remain. That has been dismantled and you have Harte (who i hope continues to do well) coming in with his own backroom team. In other words we are going back to how our county teams were run 6 yrs ago and beyond. The long term effect of this approach will come home to roast in 8/10 yrs time if it is not remedied.

I think, on the back of Cahair O'Kanes article in the I.N. about the amount of injuries we are experiencing. I'll recyle this post I made on 13th December.

Loughlin's not an long standing groin condition that finally needed surgery?
Doherty's quad hasn't been right since the crafty 'tackle' by Maher in Salthill during the league game? Not training related.
Murphy's injury occur at training?
McEvoy's hamstring.. In a big panel of players this will happen. We've been very lucky with injuries the last couple of seasons.
If it's a change of S&C and people are pointing fingers, why is the number not greater from 14 odd games and countless tough training sessions?
I'd say if you went through every panel in Ireland since the league started this year we'd pretty average re the amount of injuries

Quote from: SouthOfThe Bann on May 22, 2024, 02:28:08 PMIf Armagh replicate their performance from the first 55 mins of the Ulster Final I think they could beat Derry with a bit to spare, especially if Derry's injuries dont clear up.

A lot of ifs and buts though.

Think they play for 77+ mins in games these days

Quote from: Wildweasel74 on May 20, 2024, 09:44:38 PMI been to a number of games, think they competive enough. There not alot of goalkeeping options in the county. Not alot of possible stand out future county men. Alot of the very good players are not big. There is a very good lad playing No.11 for Castledawson whos he? Wouldn't be the biggest!

I don't get to many club games these days but I'd have though there were some good players coming through from those county minor/u20 sides? We already have a 2nd keeper in Scullion at the senior county level so we're covered there for a while.
Championship is usually competitive enough, 3 teams realistic contenders and 1 or 2 others can always can always win on a given day.

Not that competitive the last couple of years. Glen have cake walked it (although I think you mean apart from them it's fairly competitive)

The result of the last 3 finals.

2021 - Glen 1-13 0-7 Slaughtneil
2022 - Glen 1-12 0-7 Slaughtneil
2023 - Glen 1-13 0-7 Magherafelt

Incredible consistency from Glen when you even look at those 3 score lines. Keeping the opposition to 0-7 in 3 finals in a row.

They had 6 men in the Derry squad at the weekend (Ciaran McFaul, Conor Glass, Emmett Bradley, Ethan Doherty, Eunan Convery, Danny McDermott)
Conleith Mcguckin left the panel a few weeks ago & Johnny McGuckain just finishing up with the u20's, he really looks the part too.

Their team is frightening, and then you start to add in other household names Dougan, Warnock, Carville, Tallon, Doherty, Flanagan etc

Serious squad. With the age profile of Slaughtneil, only Magherafelt rally come close re squad strength
