Quote from: Capt Pat on May 26, 2024, 02:29:49 PMGalway down to 14 men against the Dubs. It has really changed the course of the game with Dublin coming back into it.

Plus they'll be against the wind in 2nd half.

A red card for me. Reckless when ball was gone.
Thought red was severe... yellow for me

You might be right. Me I am not sure about it. The thing about it is though Burke didn't have to make the hit. He deliberately laid the man out and left the ref with a decision to make. The ref didn't have the benefit of slow motion replays and after consulting with the linesman Burke was gone.

It cost Galway the game and possibly Henry his job
Not so sure it cost them the game - they had a strong Salthill wind  behind them in the first half.
And let's face it they've been sh*te all year. Were not going to be contenders one way or another

Quote from: bennydorano on May 26, 2024, 02:33:38 PMHard luck Armagh. Don't see Derry winning any All Ireland tbh, very easily nullified today by a team they beat by 17 pts a few weeks ago. Then again it's hard to know how the provinces measure up and if they'll give Derry the free reign to do what they like.

From what I've seen and similar to U20 this year Ulster appears to be the strongest province of the four.
In terms of the overall standard in the province I would agree.
I would say though that I fancy Mayo to win the All Ireland.
I've seen them a few times and they are very good.

Thanks guys. Annecy does look lovely.
For Zell am See it looks like we'd have to transit through the Uk - which hikes the prices (and the hassle factor) up, so maybe Annecy is the way to go.
There seems to be loads of apartments both within the old town and on the edge of it (albeit with no pool
access).
I'd been looking at La Ravoire & Les Fontaines sister campsites in Doussard but the prices in July are more than I'm looking to pay (twice the price of June for the same mobile) as trying to do this on a budget.
Thabks again for the replies

Quote from: galwayman on May 20, 2024, 11:36:52 PMJust wondering has anyone on here been to both the Austrian and Swiss Alps in the summer and able to compare them?
Have a week to take off work in early July and now thinking of trying to get a sneaky week away - but don't want the usual Med resort type break.
I was looking at Zell am See and Seefeld in Austria initially, but also looking at Morzine (mainly due to the free outdoor public heated pool) and Annecy in France.
I'm going research blind now though so am secondf guessing myself!
We've been away already earlier in the year, so trying to keep this as cheap as possible (so probably won't be able to stump up for accommodation with a pool for the kids).
Just looking for somewhere scenic with some swimming possibilities for the kid within walking distance of a reasonable choice of restaurants.
Anyone been to the areas mentioned?
Have been to Zell Am See a few times in the summer, lovely spot, don't need pool as there is an open air pool by the lake and can also swim in the lake which is class. Haven't been in 10 years or so but hope to go back soon. Moraine I haven't been to but it's on my bucket list
Cheers for that. Do you remember if the lake was an okay temperature to swim in?
Let's just say my two girls wouldn't be the bravest in terms of cold water :-)
It does look lovely.
Is the food decent?
Was in France last year and was surprised at how samey and so-so the food was in comparison to the North of Majorca for example.

Thanks for the replies guys.
Sorry I meant to say compare the Austrian and French Alps - not the Swiss Alps.

GAA Discussion / Re: GaaGo

Quote from: From the Bunker on May 18, 2024, 09:35:27 PMI think all this complaining of GAAGO is a Red Herring. What do the public want? A free meal? There will always be a auld Buck with no internet, no credit card or no smart TV. If you are so concerned about them then invite them over and sort them out. There is a cohort who will always complain about access to coverage.

Personally, I think Hurling gets far to much coverage on Terrestrial TV in relation to it's nationwide popularity. The way Sean Og O'Halpin talks it's as if the whole country has been dis-enfranchised by not showing the Munster Hurling Championship.
Well other commitments meant I couldn't be in Salthill today & I was damn glad for Gaa Go's existence!

Quote from: sam03/05 on May 18, 2024, 08:03:08 PMThought Hartes comments after the game were a disgrace. Said he didn't see mckinless incident , but then proceeded to accuse Comer of making a meal of it and theatrics.
It was as  blatant a red card as seen at a game & it more or less ended Comers involvement in the game. McKinless deserves a lengthy ban for it

Comer 100% made a meal of the initial free obviously not of the stamp.

I didn't see the stamp at first and I'm sure Harte hadn't seen footage by the time he was interviewed either!
Probably not but it was as clear as f**king day that the ankle was injured after it. He was hobbling around the place and came off early as a direct result of it.
So that's just bullshit from
Harte.
I hope yaht doesn't turn into another long term ankle problem now

Quote from: tbrick18 on May 18, 2024, 07:41:04 PMVery poor from Derry, sending off aside. So flat.
First half us where the game was lost, too many dropped short.

Too many of derrys star players were nowhere to be seen, glass didn't seem interested.

We were chasing the game, lachlan Murray just scored 3 I think, made a score saving tackle and Harte takes him off. Can't see the logic in that.

Galway were good. Should rightly leapfrog derry in the AI rankings and must be in that top 3 tier now.

Didn't listen to the commentary after the game but there can be no defending mckinless.
However,  I did think in general galway got their frees easier than us.
I'm trying to take my Galway hat off here (not easy of course) but I honestly didn't feel that we were getting frees easier.
In terms of scores from frees I'm not sure how many we ended up with but when we had 1-12 on the board only two of those were frees.
I can think of two off the top of my head tap over frees Derry got that were never frees (to me anyway).
McGuigan wins a high ball in first half & doesn't call a mark. He gets shepherded and throws himself down and gets a free.
One in second half (I think number 10) who runs into 2-3 Galway defenders and gets a very soft free.
Anyhow I'm only picking them as examples. The red card changed the game.
Who knows what would have happened if it didn't happen. It was going to be tight regardless

Comers ankle is the big worry going forward.
He had a bad ankle injury a few years back that took him a long time to recover from.
It was a dirty dirty act.
Against 14 men or not - it was a decent performer from our lads.

Quote from: From the Bunker on May 05, 2024, 07:08:12 PMBit of a joke near the end. Galway got the charity frees that helped them cross the line. Gough made so many bad calls earlier, that he did not know his arse from his elbow in how to even it up. A complete meltdown, Joyce got into his head from the sideline and he succumbed. Can happen to the best of us.

Embarrassing post. Mayo got absolutely ridiculous decisions from minute 20 to minute 70. Even the Mayo clowns around us were saying it

You honestly believe a couple of soft frees at the end made up for complete ridiculous one-sidedness for most of a game? Take your beating pal

To be fair I only seen the game from the 58th minute on. And during that short stint - Galway got a ridiculous call against them. After that there was a procession of soft frees to Galway who were chasing the game. I take my beating - Galway won. And I cyberly shake your hand in congratulations. But I can still say Gough really lost the run of himself at a very important juncture.
Watch the full game back!
This myth of Gough being the best referee around I just don't get.
He was terrible

Did you watch the full game?
Are you seriously suggesting we came out the better of Gough's "refereeing" over the course of the game?
Take your beating like a good lad

Our use of possession is absolutely chronic.
Comer can't win this on his own

Quote from: armaghniac on May 04, 2024, 06:46:32 PMIts a bit one sided. The home draw for the semi final significant.
Lucky in the GAA that we don't have home semi finals where blue teams can fill the stadium with their supporters and overawe the opposition.
the Dubs can't fill croke Park this time of the year after 14 in a row. Who is responsible for this?
The stadium is never going to be filled unless it's an AI final or at a stretch Dublin against either Mayo or Armagh in a semi final.
When has it ever been any different?
Croke Park has rarely ever sold out for anything but an All Ireland final. This isn't a new phenomenon.

Eh??
On the basis that Armagh have huge support.
