Laois / Re: 2022 National Football League

The subject of portlaoise have two teams will always be debated and rightly so but the debate should be at country board level.the fastest growing town in the midlands.I can see one problem is that if this ever was going to happen and portlaoise number 2 team was to be a senior team that will take the place of another and is that the fear of some clubs I don't know. We have too  few underage teams playing A football.when a town as big as mouthmellick needs all its neighbours to compete and there a few more with them I see that as the biggest problem.

We cannot compare portlaoise to dublin.you compare portlaoise to newbridge similar populations to Kilkenny city which portlaoise if it keeps growing at the rate it is will soon pass it in population.all have 2 or more senior teams which all have players or had that played with county. has to be a lot of young people in portlaoise that never see a football field. Portlaoise doesn't  want competition for young players in there town which is only natural. But this is up to the county board if you  have to start at underage level out biggest town has to be one of our biggest providers

We have 16 senior clubs in laois probably 8 underage teams playing A football and that's the supply chain for most of these clubs bar a few. That's a major problem but that's been the way for a good number of years and nothing done about it.I agree with a lot off the things said here so if we can see it are they just ignoring it.who would let mouthmellick join with 4 other teams 1 yes but that's a joke.

In Portarlington it's sad to see that we couldn't field a minor team which a town of our size should have no problem it's not all bad over here we have good numbers at other levels and will compete with most teams. I see mouthmellick are now joined up with all there surrounding small clubs which is no good. When I see this happening I feel it's parents and mangers trying to we medals for there kids and  themselves and not  the club.portlaoise is growing every year and it needed a second football club ten years ago.all 3 clubs have one thing in common they are competing with a lot more sports kids have greater choice.yes I believe the county board should do more to promote  the game in the towns because at the end of the day that's where your population is.

Portlaoise and Newbridge are towns of similar size. Where Newbridge has two successful senior football clubs both side have men on kildare panel.it works in Newbridge why not portlaoise. Myself I'm live in a town and everyone thinks because of the population it's easy to raise money but it's not we have a lot of competition from other sports within the town. Soccer swimming rugby tennis golf there just a few clubs I can name more.even outside football clubs.maybe if portlaoise and my own club Portarlington where debt free we would have the money to pay these coaches.for the Likes  of us and portlaoise in order to develop we had to buy  Land or move ground.we All know land in a town is far more expensive that land out in rural areas.

I think this has the making of a good championship if it's run right. The main problem is to many teams are amalgamated form year to year you don't know who's joining with who. The rock with Paul's one year next year it was gone. port beat ballyroan well I think ballyroan  barely had a team. to few underage teams and too many senior teams picking from it.this has to have a long term effect

Money isn't good enough which I do agree with.the weather has nothing to do with the job that Ref done I seen him a couple of weeks back and he was no better.there is enough money being paid by the supporters to watch these games to pay a good Ref.its a thankless job I know that. It's a job I couldn't do because I know I wouldn't be able for it. Some of these guys are notable for it but still do it.i don't know what laois gaa do to train refs how many times a year they are assessed

Laois / Football Ref
September 30, 2019, 10:33:59 AM
We have 16 senior teams in laois and only 6 Ref that passed the fitness test to take control of all these games.2 of these Refs are port men. At the weekend one of these Refs was way out of his depth some of his decisions where so bad that you wonder did he have money on the game(which I doubt he had) we also have a celebrity Ref which he thinks the game is all about him. I know it's a thankless job.but for players to spend 3 nights a week training giving there time for club and county. To play the game they love it's hard to take for them.for me the Ref shouldn't be notice but when you walk out of O Moore Park the talk is all about the Ref.Is this only my opinion or what do ye guys think

Just example. Portlaoise and Newbridge are two towns of similar size little over 20,000 in both. Newbridge has two very successful teams both have won senior championships both have players that represented Kildare.so I could see the benefits of  another club in portlaoise. Another problem in my opinion is there far to few underage teams.

Laois / O'Moore park for club games
February 25, 2017, 08:46:17 PM
I have been to many a club game in O'Moore park and my opinion the atmosphere is dead it's to big supporters are too spread out and it's not like the club games of years back. Years back you wouldn't miss a games even if the game itself was poor the atmosphere was great. We need to get the games out of our county grounds and back to the club grounds. Some good grounds around county now

Under 20. Still not going to be of any advantage if it's been played this time of year.

Laois / Keep or do away with the under 21 grade
November 12, 2016, 11:26:17 AM
The club under 21 grade is ran off this time of year and to me it's like just hurry up and get it over with. My opinion club our county doesn't benefit from it.whats the point of it while there is no real benefit. The under 21 grade is here to stay that's what I think so club and county should use it to there advantage. Has anyone any ideas how we could get the most out of this grade.firstly I think it's held at the wrong time of year

Park are not the only club to lose out on players from there area playing with neighbouring clubs.i see my own club had players from the heart of the town playing with O Dempsey.Good football players that would have in my opinion help port win one or two more titles back in the 90s. Mouthmel lick players playing for the rock there are a lot of clubs in the same boat.its something I don't understand

I'd say Laois is one of the more difficult counties in which to get an internal transfer.

And rightly so.

The Ramsbottom Bowe Langton transfers still piss me off 20 years on. Park could've been senior with them three lads. Strad would have won f***all without them.

Greg Ramsbottom, Tom Bowe and Podge Langton? Did all three go at the same time? Background on that?
It's so long ago now I can't remember. I could be wrong but I think Langton pulled a stroke by transferring to Naas or Leixlip or somewhere like that and then back not to Park but to Stradbally. Not at all sure of the timeframes but all within 2 years is my guess.
