This year has went from being one of the best run leagues in years to the usual mess - Obviously nobody could have predicted the county run and impact but for having, what 12 of 15 games gone. Here we are in a position where we haven't kicked a ball competitively in over 6 weeks.

November club Gaelic Football again. Absolutely brutal lads.

And as stated many times its very hard to know what the solution is. If Tyrone hadn't of got to the final this year things wouldn't have worked out too bad. However, now that they have the county boards hands are tied.

The only options are to play more games without the county players or to have some kind of summer competition (possibly on a divisional basis). But it doesn't appear that clubs will agree to either. The long break in the season is nearly worse than the late finish. There should be a two or three week break in July but other than that players and clubs need regular games.

We could take an approach similar to Monaghan. Split the 16 teams into 2 divisions of 8 (1a and 1b and same in division 2 and 3) based on prior year. Play 7 home games and 7 away games. County players available for half the games (7) and double points for these games. No play offs. Even in the current year it would mean the leagues wrapped up prior to the championship and fixtures could be released for the season well in advance. Championship would remain unchanged.

They could have used the starred games better. For instance keeping atleast one for the gap week in the Super 8s and potentially keeping another starred round for this period in August. This would obviously reduce the week by week games we had at the beginning but would have meant a better spread of games over the year.

It's crazy to think that approx 400 players (16 teams x say 25 players) in division 2 have no football in 10 weeks because of 2 players with 1 of those kicking no ball for the county all summer. Granted if they were at my club I wouldn't want to play without either. The Monaghan format may be worth a look at.

The plan should have been layed out based on the fact that Tyrone were expected to make a semi final of the All Ireland- like they have done so this last few years.

A rethink is certainly needed- lot of players sitting idle because of 35 players. I also think its funny that Tyrone reserve leagues grind to a halt because the county team is doing well. This alone should be a seperate league compeition run during the week- this would help reducing the need for so many refs on a sunday too.

If Tyrone had have got knocked out in the semi final then all the league games would have been played pre championship. The only issue would have been the play offs which always seem to drag on. I think the split of the games with the county players will need changed for the sake of regular club football. Extra points for the games they are there is the only way smaller clubs relying on county players will accept it.

Can anyone confirm or deny the rumours that the junior championship double header this evening is being changed to omagh?

Serious rain last night and today. Would Omagh hold it?? And risk ruining it for the rest of the year

Why would they be disgruntled? Sure most club's applications haven't even closed yet nevermind tickets being distributed.

Under Lights

JFC started with a whimper last night, few more competitive ties lined up today.

I have heard unconfirmed reports of an incident in the Loughmacrory Killyclogher game which invovled a player being seriously injured. The alleged perpetrator has been in trouble this season already with a similar incident if im right. If true surely something has to be done about this.. player welfare needs to be treated seriously!!
