2nd minor All-Ireland was essentially a new team. Just 1 or 2 from 2014. 2016 was similar with a new manager to boot.

Might it be the result of a change/step-up in the quality of the development panel system within the county or something?

You'd imagine the minors in Kerry are likely to be in with a serious shout again this year given how Kerry teams have done in the Munster schools (St Brendans back in the Hogan Cup final again), presence of David Clifford as captain plus I'd imagine some of the panel from last year.

I supposed you l'd have to say he's a good manager but jumping on a winning ship at minor rather than putting his hand at the wheel when it was actually needed says alot about him as a man and his priorities IMHO. Jack always comes first.

Read his book and you'll see Jack does indeed xome first and loves praise and credit when not even due.

Up there with Micko as the greatest Kerry manager delivering another Munster title tonight.  Kerry will beat galway handy enough in a couple weeks in AI semi final. Barry o'Sullivan, Jordan Kiely and Micheal Burns great subs to bring on. Jack O'Connor will have 3 minor and 1 u21 title when takover from Fitzy next season.

Cant see O'Connor taken over next year. If anything Eamonn Fitzmaurice stock has risen more in last 2 weeks.

Might go on report after apparently having a rant at the ref. on Saturday. Like an anti-christ afterwards from a good source.

It's only deflection from his own mistakes in the Kerry team selection, positional assignments and getting his team motivated for last Saturday, ridiculous behaviour from a very ungracious loser, his team were completely second best on the day.

Jack has form in that regard. He is definitely a great man to get a team ready to go, but he is not a great lad for plan Bs. I couldn't believe how out-thought he was by Mickey Harte the second time around.

He believes in Kerry football, and he trusts his players to execute the basics well. When that doesn't turn out to be enough, he struggles.

As for being a sore loser, to be honest JAck is a sore winner.

Jack O'Connor believes in Jack O'Connor™

My only experience at first hand with O'Connor was as umpire in a NFL game about 10years ago. Friend of mine was refereeing and the word among referees is that O'Connor liked to try and intimidate them. We were sitting in our dressing room at HT about to go back on the pitch when a bang came to the door. It was O'Connor roaring like a lunatic about how many frees they got when compared to the oppisition. My friend asked him to leave and a steward escorted him back to the pitch. My friend was not happy with this little stunt but he did give them a penalty in 2nd half and Kerry won by 3 or 4 points!. I was at the All Ireland final later that year and watched on as O'Conner ran down the tunnell after the referee at HT.
To hear that he verbally attacked the referee last Saturday is disgraceful especially as they were beaten off the pitch by Galway.

As regards believing in Kerry football (whatever that is) and thrusting his players? He had some great players and like Paudi before him should probably have won more. You hit the nail on the head there AZ. Mickey Harte did him. Mickey had great players too but brought a tactical angle that O Connor did not have. Anybody that knows a bit would have a good cut with a team with the O Sés, Gooch, Galvin, Declan O Sullivan. Jack might get another shot with Kerry but he would be as useless as the majority of managers that try and improve counties outside the elite few. Say, if he was managing a Leitrim or a Waterford - good luck to him banging on a referee's door or ranting after a game.

He'd never have the balls to go to a Westmeath like Paudi did, let alone actually win something with them.

Exactly. Not having a cut at Paudi but I thought he could have got more out of Moynihan and Fitzgerald but played it too safe. Using Moynihan as a full-back and not trusting Mike McCarty there was too cautious imo.
