The Sinn Féin councillor at the centre of the Willie O'Dea controversy has questioned a senior garda over the recent revelations.

Cllr Maurice Quinlivan asked Supt Frank O' Brien if he knew if gardaí passed on information to politicians, and if there had been any convictions for this activity in the past.

Cllr Quinlivan asked the questions at the meeting in Limerick City Hall of the Joint Policing Committee, which meets every couple of months to discuss police and crime matters.

Mr Quinlivan brought High Court proceedings against the former minister for alleging he was associated with the running of a brothel in Limerick City.

Mr O'Dea was forced to resign as minister when he accepted that he falsely claimed in an affidavit to the High court that he had ever made such references to Mr Quinlivan.

Supt O'Brien, the senior officer attached to Henry Street Garda Station, said the Garda Commissioner had recently appointed Chief Supt Michael Finn to investigate those matters and he could make no comment on matters under investigation

I wonder would the Guada have made a comment if Willie had have asked him ;)
