Is Liverpool FC's apparent Premiership failure as melancholic and heartbreaking as Mayo's All Ireland attempts over the last few years ?

Bertrand has another theory for Liverpool's demise: "What happened is that their confidence has been shot. It has been so long since they had a setback, that when they had one, the wheels totally went off the wagon. Cf. with the Arsenal Invincibles, who were never the same after they lost their unbeaten record."

And Mayo were similar last year

I really enjoyed the day Mayo destroyed Galway's wagon last year.
Inaugural Football Championship Prediction Winner.

As a 'pool fan and a Mayo man I have to say the Mayo thing is far far worse. More personal for a start.

But then again I remember Liverpool winning all their European Cups and several Div. 1s and other trophies.

Mayo = Benfica. Well able to beat their neighbours but perennial runners-up when they go to the next level. The spectre of a great team of the past, back-to-back winners that they were, and the more recent success of their neighbours in far fewer final appearances only exacerbates the pain. There's even some green in there amidst the red.

Good luck to Benfica against Seville.

What does that make Waterford?

We have a couple of successes under our belt, one of which involved a team with several legends of the game that had the misfortune to come into its prime at the same time as a number of other great teams. Recent events saw a stunning rise to challenge which ended in a crushing reality check. So that makes us . . . Leeds United. The colours work pretty well there too.

The Irish rugby team vs NZ would be similar enough to Liverpool this year as well.
So close but the other team just had too much time at the end.

No, it's only 24 years since Liverpool won the league. Ireland never beat the All Blacks.

AZOffaly

but it was based on the back pass as well!

Liverpool this year kind of reminded me of Down of 2010. Down punched well above their weight to get to the All-Ireland final but ultimately fell at the last post. You have to admire them both for getting so far.

Mayo Benfica lose another Final.
When you think you're fucked you're only about 40% fucked.
