Had never heard off until now, seemed like a person who can have made a difference. Two young kids terribly sad, what a f*cked up world this still is.

so criticizing the media for reporting on them .. So what if it's constant

If there is one thing I don't like in the media, it is someone saying that they themselves are great. The worst example would be some BBC commentary on their soccer or rugby teams, but we are definitely not immune to this type of hubris in Ireland.

I prefer to seek out neutral commentary if at all possible.

Here is an ESPN piece on the Irish Fans at the Euros: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=lgV9IxeWahg
One major advantage the FAI fans have id they dont give 2 f**k about the football or is it rugby , who cares?

Have to agree a bit with some of the previous posters about the self glorification coming back from France. I suppose it is a generational thing and the advent of the internet.

Only so much stories about Irish fans stopping  traffic to help cute family of ducks to cross the road/  singing with (insert nationality ) fans at 2am in the morning  etc etc you can take I suppose before you get hardbitten.

Does the world do understatement anymore?

All imho of course.

The meeja have been doing the lovable fans shtick since 1988. The technical term is féin plámás.  It is a bit like taxi drivers saying O'Connell street is the widest street in Europe or Brian Carthy asking a senior Australian sports figure to confirm that hurling is the greatest sport in the world.

O'Connell Bridge is wider than it is long.

Because it's a bit OTT. It's just getting repetitive. In my opinion :) But lookit, it's great they are having a great time, and it's great they are behaving themselves. And it's great they are making more friends, so it's all good :)

I myself am not surprised by the headline.

The WTF is the surprise of those who didn't see such events happening. These global events highlight the disparity, the greed, the stupidity of the world we live in.
