Quote from: bennydorano on November 27, 2023, 11:10:10 AMAre there any companies that specialise in adding youngsters to car insurance? Asking in hope more than expectation, realise there's a robbing heading my way.
Got the eldest lads renewal quote today. Up from 1550 to 2150 if pay in one hit or a cool 2450 by monthly direct debit  :'(. That's with Hughes. The sister in law got a decent quote from Admiral for her daughter so will be giving them a ring this week.

Almost £2.5k by DD.

That's serious. A con if there's ever been one.

Imagine have a few kids around that age.  It's be £5k before a key's put in the ignition.
I've another fella turning 17 next month  :'(. The eldest is at uni in Belfast so feasibly could use public transport and give his car to the other fella so only one set of insurance but that suggestion has gone down like a lead balloon.

Update. The wife got fully comp for the eldest fella for £1100 with Admiral rather than the renewal quote from Hughes of £2150! It's bonkers the differences in quotes. I've told her to check there isn't a catch  :-\

Fully comp with Admiral doesn't usually allow the named driver to have third party cover on another vehicle. I'd still take lower quote.

Quote from: thewobbler on November 09, 2023, 01:24:01 PMCar insurance is compulsory by law, to the point that law enforcement will actively make the case against you for any discrepancy, rather than devolving it as a civil matter. What a wonderful perk for any business model.

It is therefore, for all intents and purposes, taxation. Except it is a tax which is set (as good as) independently from government regulation, and one in which our contributions make their way into the pockets of foreign shareholders.

Insurance is rotten from the top-down.
100%. And if the day ever comes you need to claim, you'll have to jump through hoops to get your money and then repay it back through higher premiums for life. A total scam.

Anyone with young ones driving around the border counties be wary of some of the insurance policies from the English insurance companies. Some of them have restrictions for under 25s which limits the cover to NI only. Once they cross the border there's no insurance.

They need to stop such policies being sold. Back in the day the Stormont government required policies sold in NI to be valid in the 26 counties and then of course in the EU such a restriction would not be legal. There are loose ends like this from Brexit that have not been properly addressed.

Good point! I'm less than 10 mins from the border and he has mates in Monaghan he's regularly driving to see. I knew there had to be a catch  ???  (apart from the £370 voluntary excess!)

Some firms give you a reduction if you are a member of your local Credit Union so give this a try

Getting a parent added as a named driver apparently can help take down cost of young uns own insurance, who knew 🤔

Sons renewal quote from AXA came in. Up 75% from last year (800 to 1400)

Got my renewal in, no claims and I'm driving nearly 30 years and my renewal went from £520 last year to £860 this year. £340 jump for nothing.
Worst is, I can't get it cheaper anywhere else.
Consumer is being shafted here.

It's a money racket plain and simple.

nrico2006

Home insurance quote in today, up from 450 to 890. Never claimed off it yet.
