I know loads of men and women who lived single lives, why get the Visa and ruin others lives, selfishness springs to mind.

Maybe because he was ashamed and in denial and couldn't accept it. Maybe he was worried about disappointing his parents. Maybe he was trying, like so many others, to fit into the expectations of society. Maybe he thought he would feel differently and adapt to straight life. Plenty of others have stuck it through before him.

I've no idea why he did it. I didn't go through that kind of struggle. But I knew people who ended up killing themselves because they were gay men stuck in a conservative society and families who wouldn't or couldn't accept that their sons were homosexuals.

I would say he only told all on Friday as some of the tabloids were about to out him,maybe a Sunday Exclusive today.  Kevin Maguire from the mirror has said on twitter he new this while but they wouldn't out him. He wanted to win public opinion rather that been exposed as a cheat in some sleazy tabloid.
