As Fearon was as meek as a kitten when Mac called in to visit him I'm surmising he is lacking in that department.

Thats quite a bit removed from how mac actually described him online though isnt it, so you maybe know a few more details?
Why would Fearon have been meek? It doesnt fit the persona

There was none of his usual sectarian bile and it was all "a bit of a joke really", which he said he would stop. He obviously didn't have the courage to spout his usual views on "huns" etc to someone's face when challenged.

The moral of the story here is don't post anything on the internet you wouldn't have the balls to say to someones face. As Fearon was as meek as a kitten when Mac called in to visit him I'm surmising he is lacking in that department. Personally I would rather that some of Gerry McCabe's family called in to visit him after some of his remarks about Anne etc.

Recent events prove that Keane is a complete tool as a manager, and I expect this point to be further emphasized at White Hart Lane this weekend.

I doubt if he would still be in the job at the Stadium of Shite were it not for the Irish Murphia behind the club

There was a certain inevitability about Saturday's result.

Any investment in Derry was hard fought for by Hume.
Unfortunately he isn't around anymore and we're stuck with Durkan and Anderson. Dumb and dumber.
I would say Durkan has done almost nothing is his tenure as MP for Foyle. You would be lucky to see his face in a paper from one month to the next.

As for Call Centre work, sure the shirt factories may as well be still here as them.
Why would any company setup in Derry. One drive up the winding A6 and they'd think they are heading into the abyss.

Not well paid jobs I grant you, but under competition from India especially Derry has done ok to get them at all, as well as holding on to Seagate. Manufacturing is almost dead and buried anyway as it is throughout the rest of Northern Ireland and beyond. We can't compete with the wage bills in the East. I would imagine all NI MPs are in the local papers less often because the playing field has changed - there is less of a case for them to be engaging with Westminster as we are supposed to be sorting our own problems out now :-[ .

Poor Derry is getting it tough on the PR front.
On a night it it is definately no worse than any town or city.

The only bother will happen away from the city centre.
So round the town is as safe as anywhere.

It general it would be pretty rough in some places, but what can you expect with unemployment so high for so long, but again no worse than west belast/dublin limerick etc, only difference being that NI Gov has no intention of trying to solve the mess in the west.

Derry can hardly complain about government investment compared to some other areas of Northern Ireland. As well as the government putting in a lot of effort John Hume was well known for calling in favours for the area from friends in Europe and the USA. There have been a lot of call centre jobs etc over the last number of years. As far as it being a scary place at the weekend at night, it is worse than most places I have seen, and certainly a lot worse than Belfast or Dublin IMO. I have spent enough time in the place to tell.

It strikes me and frankly worries me that the muckers seem to be getting out of control, listening to the news lately we have them stealing manhole covers, using baseball bats in a non sporting fashion, a paramedic has blood spat in his face while treating someone in need, a woman found guilty of £70000 benefit fraud........Are these instances reflective of life in the maiden city?

Every sporting goods shop I have been in sells them and I've yet to see anyone play baseball. :(

There is no getting away from the simple fact that the 0-0 draw at Wembley in 1985 which qualified the North of Ireland for the 1986 World Cup Finals was a contrived result. This is a widely accepted and acknowledged fact, has England required to win they would have done.
The beauty of it was that without it, we wouldn't have had the pleasure of Butregano, Josimar etc whipping their asses in Mexico the following summer ;D

PS It would be constructive if yyou refrained from using sectarian phrases in your post

Any proof (as opposed to opinions) then?

The time Tommy McDermott was in Big Brother, he was asked to turn the Christmas lights up somewhere up the country. Lisburn or Lurgan or somewhere. The loyalists put a death threat out on him before he wore a Tyrone shirt and a Greencastle top on Big Brother.

I would support a death threat on ANYONE who ever appeared on Big Brother, regardless of creed or colour, especially that talentless bint who presents it.  ;)

to hide Tony's great shame, embarrassment and indeed humiliation I would have thought.
Anyway Tony could do something else that 'the OWC' do.  Support the country of his birth.......like he used to, before Big Jack and the plastic paddies came on board.
Everybody knows that Norn Iron tried their level best to get almost anybody to play for them, most couldn't be arsed and most of those who did bother to turn up were crap and not used much.

We had a different breed of Gen 2 and 3 Irishmen, answered the call and were committed to the cause. Even an adopted son like
Cascarino is a Paddy for life, still playing under the tri colour for Ireland  ;D

Cascarino's own thoughts on playing for the 26 counties -

Cascarino said in his autobiography: "I didn't qualify for Ireland. I was a fraud. A fake Irishman".

It would also appear that Gaelic Games are generally looked upon by the OWC as a bog sport played by bigots.

Bullshit. The truth is, on the OWC site Gaelic games barely get a mention. Sometimes if there is something of note in the press, Darren Graham for example it will be debated there and on other forums. The recent final also got a bit of a mention as well, but in truth it doesn't get talked about that often.

Well then ask your OWC chums why it is great they canplay hurling/shinty together but not soccer?

They can play soccer together, and I'm sure some of them do. After all, these are all Belfast schools aren't they ;D

Derry were forced to withdraw in the early 70s after an opposing team's supporters bus was burnt at the Brandywell (can't remember if it was Ballymena or Linfield/IFA). OK you might say, an act of sectarianism but the fact is that Derry supporters were abused at every away ground they went to and not a thing was done against the perpetrators. Similarly with Belfast Celtic's enforced withdrawal in the late 1940s, when they could not guarantee the safety of their own players after the centre forward has his leg broken on the pitch by Linfield/IFA supporters in an attack incited by a loudspeaker announcement from the Linfield/IFA secretary. Also Linfield/IFA's sectarianism was accommodated to the extent that Cliftonville had to play their "home" games against Linfield/IFA at Windsor Park, thus Linfield/IFA were actually rewarded for having sectarian fans.

I'll give you an example. I went by train to the IFA Cup Final in 1972 between Portadown and Coleraine. While passing the Kilwilkie estate on the way to the game, Portadown bigots showered bottles dwon from the train. Not surprisingly this provoked a reaction from the residents who awaited the train's return journey. However it was portrayed in the media as a random sectarian attack on Portadown supporters and the fact that they themselves provoked it was swept aside. I witnessed this with my own eyes.

It was a Ballymena bus some DC fans burnt. Imagine travelling fans gatting abuse shouted at them by home fans. Shocking. I'm sure that doesn't happen anywhere else in the world. Not at the big grudge matches such as Villa/Birmingham , ManU/Man City or Arsenal/Man U. Most fans are big boys and girls and can live with it.
