A few possible upsets here; Antrim at home, after a surprise win v Louth, but be in good spirits. Kildare never the best travellers, and after the trimming by Dublin might be vulnerable. I remember Mayo struggling against both Fermanagh and Derry in the early qualifiers. Down aren't great but home advantage should help them. Longford and Leitrim might also beat the odds. No bets for me this weekend, esp as none of the qualifiers are being televised

Only one that has a fancy for them here is a Offaly poster. Just the 1 has tipped Offaly over boards.ie on the pools competition also.
Only games Offaly won this year so far, twice against your own Sligo who lost all 10 games, Carlow and London who finished bottom in Div 4.

I'd rather end up with Dublin/roscommon than Kerry/Donegal. So id hope to draw cavan or cork next week.
Laois can't draw Meath I think so there is a very good chance they will draw Cork or Cavan.
So you could effectively be looking at one group of Dublin, Roscommon, Laois/Cavan/Cork and AN OTHER.
It's probably likely that Mayo and Tyrone will end up on the same Group 8 side in what could be the complete group of death.
Could be a great chance for Roscommon to reach an All Ireland semi final this year. :o
To be fair they have made the Super 8s this year by beating Mayo and Galway, last year it was Leitrim and a depleted Armagh.

If Clare win tomorrow, you will be the sole tipster to have 0 correct.
Now, that's tension.
At the other end, a Meath win will see 5 tipsters get 100%, while a Clare win will mean Itchy and BennyCake split the title for this weekend.

If Clare win tomorrow, you will be the sole tipster to have 0 correct.
Now, that's tension.
At the other end, a Meath win will see 5 tipsters get 100%, while a Clare win will mean Itchy and BennyCake split the title for this weekend.

I'm thinking Rossfan has been abducted by Syf. Afterall Mayo lost by a point to Dublin the last time they met in championship, lost to Ros by a point this year, ergo Ros = Dublin. Probably Syf's thinking.
Arrah Farr I thought you being a a West of Ireland man would have more cop than the Nordies with their literal minds :o.

Big blow for the lad. Second time in two years he's got injured during the Super 8s, although last year he only missed part of the Roscommon and Tyrone games.
On a selfish note, we are definitely going to miss him.
We have a few pacy replacements, but none anywhere near his overall, proven quality at this level.
I'd expect Eoin McHugh or Dara O'Baoill to be brought in.
Really like him as a footballer
Big loss for Donegal will struggle without him but their only a win away from semis
Did he not get wrecked last year too? Big loss though at least mcglynn can come in. Feel for the guy again.

What are the implications if Kerry beat Meath by a smaller margin than Mayo or Donegal (9 points). I guess it'll put them in second place likely if Donegal win meaning the play Dublin in the semifinals.

If Dublin rest O'Callaghan, Mannion, Rock, mccaffery etc then Tyrone playing at home will have a better chance of winning. Remember in March Tyrone beat Dublin in Croke Park and that game had more at stake than Sunday's dead rubber.

1. Regardless of margins, if Kerry win and Donegal don't win, Kerry are top.
2. If Kerry win by the same or a greater margin than what Donegal win by, Kerry are top
3. If Donegal win by 2 more than what Kerry win by, Donegal are top.
4. If Donegal win by exactly 1 more than what Kerry win by, then whichever team scores the most this Saturday finishes top (both currently have 48 points scored)
5. If Donegal win by 1 more than Kerry, and both teams score the same amount on Saturday - it's a tie for top spot -teams play-off.
6. If Kerry draw and Donegal draw, Kerry are top.
7. If Kerry draw and Donegal lose, Kerry are top, Mayo are 2nd.
8. If Kerry lose and Donegal draw, Donegal are top, Kerry are 2nd.
9. If Kerry lose and Donegal lose, Mayo are top, 2nd spot decided similar to points 2. to 5. but in reverse.
Much easier for those simpler Mayo folk - win and you're through, fail to win and you're out.
A 1 point loss for Kerry would guarantee Kerry getting through in 2nd spot.

Forget March, Dublin are in championship mode now. There's starting places up for grabs for Dublin so anyone on the field will be making sure the Jim takes notice. Dublin have unrivaled depth to their squad so injuries aren't going to hurt them as much as they would Tyrone. If anyone takes this one easy it's Tyrone.

Depth to their panel however only about 4 starting spots open as Cluxton, Cooper, McCaffrey, McMahon, McCarthy, Fenton, Kilkenny, Howard, Rock, Mannion and O'Callaghan will all likely start the All Ireland semi final.
If Tyrone as you say take this game easy then yes they won't be winning regardless of what team Dublin field.

Point 5 has a further tie-breaker, in that if Kerry and Donegal score the same total, but one has more goals than the other, the team with more goals finishes ahead of the other.
If the crowd is late getting into one venue, say Castlebar, and officials decide to push the start time back by 30 minutes, will the other game be pushed back as well? Out of fairness, like?
Listened to Kieran Donaghy day that Meath team and supporters will be massively hyped for the game against Kerry on Saturday night. I'm not sure what he is smoking, will supporters even bother going to a meaningless game for them. Not sure if it's a bout of Kerry yerra yerra or whether he has just bought into the Sky hype train.

Agree. Pure sh*te talk by star. Meath supporters won't even travel in big numbers.

What are the implications if Kerry beat Meath by a smaller margin than Mayo or Donegal (9 points). I guess it'll put them in second place likely if Donegal win meaning the play Dublin in the semifinals.

15 tipsters so far...
Donegal 11 Mayo 3 and 1 draw
Kerry 15 Meath 0
Dublin 10 Tyrone 1 and 4 draws
Cork 11 Roscommon 4
On form you'd have to fancy Donegal to get out of Castlebar but the trends of recent years plus a few returning players suggests Mayo could perform at a higher level than they have so far this season. It's close to a 50/50 game I reckon.

Can't see your 4 predictions...or do you have a few alias handles?
No I just called Mayo. Anyway, fair play to them, and as I said earlier, tomorrow will be weird watching Dublin and Tyrone. Mayo are way more battle hardened than Kerry so losing tomorrow to me looks the better option!
Well done Dinny.
A proud moment.
Didn't buy the Cork hype, they are playing Division 3 next year for a reason. Roscommon are a good side, a level above Cork.

I forgot to post my predictions here but over on boards.ie i also predicted a Roscommon win for the same reason as yours.
Good man Dinny...
And I took the 11/5 on the rossies, it covered the trip to Cork, While ros only won by a goal they were the much better team for most of the game and should really have won by more.
We will be back next year with a better prepared team and a better panel as we have 4 of our best players returning and as Anthony Cunningham only took over the squad in the middle of last December there was limited s&c done as we were straight into a div 1 campaign.
Some of the predictors on here were calling anything up to 8 point win for Cork.
Always look at the form [not just one match] and also the history of teams.
Well done Ballagh and Dinny.
2 shrewd operators.
Now that AC will have time to view Co Championships and get more S&C into lads I'd be hoping for even better things next year.
Good calls Dinny and Ballagh! Hope you had money on those four cos if you did you'll have cleaned up.
Dublin v Mayo ....Dublin will cover the spread of five points , up there with bet of the year , as sure a thing as you can get.

My bet this week is Dubs -5 at 10/11 in Ladbrooks. Took the price on Monday as it may go to -6 or -7 before the week is out. Then again I may have it wrong as I did not think Donegal were as soft as they looked last Saturday, a gutless performance.

Not afraid of making predictions in the slightest, I was one of the winners on here in an early round but not great since unfortunately and I missed last week's as I was in the middle of moving house.

Lets look at the form, Donegal coasted in Ulster beating Tyrone easily on the way,
Beat meath and drew with kerry having lost their first choice full backline,
Mayo lost to ros, beat only galway that played div 1 football this year, barely got past Armagh, Cavan had beaten armagh after a replay and donegal had easily beaten cavan. No matter how you draw the form line it pointed to a donegal win. The only maybe against donegal was they had not been exposed to the level of intensity that mayo bring and that indeed proved to be the defining factor.
History, championship history is the only one you count when looking at championship games and its much of a muchness on that count with both teams having important wins in the recent past and indeed not a lot of history between them.
