I would agree with Arboes stance here, even though im sure they had there own reasons not to play extra time, however fans dont appreciate how difficult it is to play ball when theres not perfect visibilty, i remember a player getting injured in a game a few years ago, was down for maybe 40 mins, the referee asked us did we want to continue, but if we agreed he wasnt stopping it for darkness, the last 10 minutes were terrible, nobody could catch the ball and it was very dangerous in general. Our own minor match went to extra time tonight and the players said after it it was getting very hard to play in. i also cant imagine the county board coming down on arboe if they plead health and safety reasons.

yeah but rules are rules, there cant be one rule for Ardboe and different rules for say Kildress (who had to play extra time tonight), the rule is simple, its up to the discretion of the referee, and in this case the ref seemed to think the game should have been played, its not up to a teams management to decide. Suppose the simple solution to this would be to have a replay but it should be played in Cookstown, afterall it was a new game, which Ardboe failed to field for.

Just what are the rules here out of interest?

If its up to the discretion of the referee as you state then why did he not take control and start the game again?  Why did he not throw the ball in??

If the Tyrone county board grew a set and actually played these games during the summer when light is not at a premium instead of dancing to the tune of the various county managers then things like this wouldnt happen.

Good win for Ardboe on Friday night. Big John McConville was excellent considering he is just coming back from a hernia operation and Brian McGuigan was great too. The team has got it tight in the last number of months due to various things but Friday night was a reward for persistance.

Donaghmore will be bitterly disappointed they failed to close the game out. Didn't look like they believed they would. McKenna started well but found the going tougher with Marty Mckeown on him, same with Shane Mulgrew when Shay Forbes picked him up. McCaul struggled with Brian.

On a seperate note the actions of Colm Cavanagh after the first game goading the Derrytresk mentor was distasteful to say the least.

That old Armagh v Tyrone argument will never be resolved
What would people (especially neutrals) say was Canavan's best ever performance?

I was lucky enough to see him from when he was an U21 til when he retired.
I wonder how he would manage in the recent climate with the swarm defences
I can remember some game where there was a pass along the ground where he kinda flicked it on backwards into someone's hands

Was there also some incident in the States where he headed a goal for Tyrone v the Dubs or something or did I dream that.  ;D

i think that wwas the 2002 national league final, mcguigan stepped over the ball and canavan backheeled up to an on-rushing ricey

what makes him the greatest i have seen is that he did things i have never seen any other player do at that level

Those flicks were between him and McGuigan in the 2002 NFL semi final against Mayo in Brewster park, they did a couple of those that day from memory.

Some scores on that clip, plenty where he had to exhibit power as well as skill and so many with the so called weaker foot.

An absolutely amazing player and for me easily the best player of the last 30 years.

McGuigan and Canavan came back late in the day in 2005 and it worked out ok then despite the mocking about bringing back Canavan. The young boys were competing with Coney, Cavanagh and O'Neill this year who are all now gone. Makes sense to bring back in a bit of quality to improve the squad. Would welcome another couple of additions.

I'm sure Canavan played nearly every game in 2005. Definitely in that first round game in Omagh v Down in the torrential rain.

That's correct Canavan came off the bench in Omagh against Down to turn the game.

Wee Brian cam back a day or 2 before the Cavan game and came on to steady the ship as Tyrone came from behind to draw with Cavan.

Alot of hearsay about that letter being returned as him not living there.. if it was true or not i have no idea. it was a long time ago now. second week in Januray, i dont know what was going on then but he has been commuting up and down the last couple of months for his job in Cavan.

Would he be able to claim legitimate mileage given he is not officially a Kildare player  :P

Does anybody actually know if Coney is out for 6 weeks or 6 months?

Out for at least 6 months, getting an operation this week by all accounts.

The county board said the gate money was to go to charity. Both clubs were happy with this. The decision to use the money for the garvaghy project is simply using the clubs for self-serving opportunism.
Have to agree with this. A cuntish move by county board. They said it was going to charity and then creamed it off for themselves. Fair play to Carmen & Dromore for this. County board - hang your heads, you shameful shower of hoors.

Not a bad player but would hardly call it a 'major blow'.

You must be some player yourself.

You are taking me out of context. I very much doubt if he would have been a starter this year in championship. A squad player. Coney and R.O'Neill are 'major blows'.

Was not going to bite originally but f#ck it.

You post is totally disrespectful to a lad who suffered a terrible injury.

Mickey Harte would have been well glad of a fully fit Tommy come summer time.

If he was from Errigal you wouldn't be posting such drivel....

Liam Donnelly and Martin Coyle took serious stick within Tyrone footballing circles, and on this board, for their failure to win more titles when in charge of the U21s.

Will Munroe et al get fingers pointed at them now?

Early rumblings on here suggests they will.

we are all disappointed yes i know and its easy to blame the managers. Cavan had their home work done yet again. they won the game on the line. the longer Cavan were in that game last night the harder they were gonna be to be put away. the referee was horrible not good to either side and 75% of cavans scores was from placed balls that incuded the penalty. no disrespect to Cavan in anyway but Tyrone had by far the more talented players at their disposal last night and even last year but what them boys dont have in technical ability they compensate with hard word and steely grit and seem to grow into certain situations. alot of credit has to go to your managers, IMO if your sideline had of had that Tyrone panel from last night they have won the game thats how i see it if i am coming across a bit blunt

First off, I am from Tyrone and not Cavan!!

Secondly I was not at any of the U21 games this year and am therefore not really in a position to comment on how things unfolded nor will I be pointing any fingers at management.

2 U21 titles back to back suggests to me that Cavan have plenty of talent.

Great to see Tyrone wans losing the run of themselves again.  Tyrone are currently Championship fit while others are only beginning to approach that level, I'd take Dublin, Cork, Kerry and Kildare all to beat them if they met in the last 8, suppose law of averages leaves them a decent chance of progressing to the semis.

I'm going to back Kildare to finally get a bit of luck and win Sam.  I'd agree Dublin deserved their luck last year, they might find Refs not so accommodating this year (a la Brian White in 2003 for Armagh and thon Longford bollix for every Armagh game post 2002).

Your fitness point is nonsense. Tyrone train two nights a week and do a couple in the gym - I'm pretty sure this is no more than most counties at this stage of the year. I would imagine they are around the same level as a lot of teams. They are ahead of previous years when only trained one night for a lot of the year which lead to Tyrone struggling in the league.

I'm not sure how anyone can tip Kildare for the All Ireland. Have they ever actually won a big match under McGeeney or beaten a big team? I don't see them being any better than other years. They blew their best chance to get to an All Ireland final when they got beat by Down.

This would suggest other wise:

Enda wasn't just a brilliant Club and County footballer he was also very modest and an absolute gentleman. I remember the first time I saw him playing for Ballinderry seniors was against Castledawson in the championship at Bellaghy.  I'm not sure which year that was must have been about 1996, can anyone clarify?

He was playing on the Ballinderry team that won the Derry championship in 1995.

What's wrong with Joe? He seems to get a lot of injuries. Does nobody know about Davy or is it a big secret? McNabb must be glad to get another start and I bet Sean O'Neill is cursing himself now.

Joe McMahon has tendinitis of the knee apparently, like Justin he is prone to injury.

Davy Harte is out injured, think he had an operation a while back.

McNabb is a very good player, most people forget he was actually captain on the 2008 minor team so that gives an indication of his pedigree.

A brilliant player not only for Derry but even more so for the shamrocks, best club player of the recent era in my opinion.

We get the abuse in here and it is the clubs that are the hypocrites with paying trainers and managers etc..
As if they are all holier than thou and it is themselves that have created this whole hypocrisy .Go through each club in Div1 and 2 and tell me which clubs are paying within the regulated  allowances ....
The sickening part is they wont admit it and everyone on here knows it is going on and all are in on it.

I would think most clubs would openly admit they are paying their manager or have done in the past.  Incidentally our club are not paying this year having done so for as long as I can remember.

What club are you Tyronehead?  Have you expressed your displeasure at the hypocrisy of your own club paying, if indeed they do so?

Incidentally - are any of the county managers or back room team members paid?
