Quote from: lenny on September 07, 2024, 05:23:13 PMSo for quite a number of tyrone clubs and players the season is now over. If I'm correct it started at the end of May. Therefore the complete club season for many clubs and players has lasted just 3 months and a week. If I was still playing I'd feel a bit short changed with that. The Derry system is getting plenty of stick too so it's not perfect either. Not a dig at Tyrone but I'm just wondering if anyone thinks that's just too short a season for players.

Is Tyrone's league over now?

It's over apart from a few promotion/relegation playoffs which will be played after the championship.

Killeeshil might disagree with that as they'd be slightly west of Galbally 😂. Every club that's part of either Dungannon or cookstown districts I would classify as east. While omagh and Strabane would obviously be west. Pomeroy are in cookstown district so would classify as east while carrickmore over the road would be part of Omagh so would be west.

Regarding the posters saying about the season May-August/September being too short I tend to agree.

I think the best foot forward would be to hold a non County player mini league in March April. Take D1 as the example, break it into 2 groups of 8. Play 7 games. Has to be stakes though to make it any value, something like top of the group gets 3 points in the ACL, second gets 2 points and third gets 1 point.

The current format is absolutely first class. Football May June July August. Championship September and October. Football during the best months of the year. Clear schedule for players to work with. Friday football is another brilliant thing done by Tyrone GAA. Players are big in support of the format. Only ever hear supporters giving off about the schedule.

Huge amount of players just see first week in September. Are players really content to go from now to next May without a game? Maybe they are... just wondering.
I can see a round robin championship coming... I'd rather have straight knock-out but I can see it coming, like other counties, for more games and more revenue.

Round robin championship will never happen in Tyrone and rightly so. Why on earth would there be such a championship structure when county players only miss 5 max games out of 15 in a league that is linked to championship. In Kerry, county players don't participate in any of the 11 county league games which then justifies their group stages for the championship.

100% agreed with this. Like Pomeroy would count Kildress East. But that's tipping point as we would occasionally be in west tyrone in youth leagues depending on numbers. But would always be in East Tyrone when it came to the Provos.

If County Minor, U20 and Senior have shown us anything it is that more games, groups and round robin has the opposite effect on attendance numbers and potential revenue. There wouldn't of been a quarter of the crowd in Healy Park on Friday if that Carrickmore Dromore game was a simple round robin group stage game.

As well as the group stage system favouring the bigger teams. Any other county the likes of Edendork could take that loss and go through and Ardboe would more than likely go out by the end of the group stage. The likes of Glen were able to rest key players in a championship game and if they lose it's no big odds, they'll still win the whole thing. Smaller teams in other counties look to be making up numbers whereas in Tyrone a smaller team could knockout a contender. Maybe I'm wrong with that but open to correction
