Quote from: clarshack on March 06, 2024, 02:39:41 PMHeard Cookstown had 60 players at a senior/reserve team meeting for the start of this season so they could easily be looking at a 3rds team with those numbers and that's even before their current youth numbers start to filter through to adult level.

The difference in numbers between rural and town clubs at present is shocking, and will only get worse with these ever increasing youth numbers. Stricter planning regulations are now inhibiting rural clubs as they are relying on farm dwelling or replacement dwellings, with no new developments. Not that many recognise the Parish rule in its current format, but it is something that may need reviewed if rural clubs are to compete again in the future.

Rural clubs struggling for sure and others larger villages and towns benefiting. Loads of teams have 50 plus players at underage. Others rely on younger players just to field.

I fear this might be a mistake on your behalf. It could double again before April.

Maybe it will but I did ok and am content with how I did

Fair play.

I doubt if it could be properly answered, there was never any need to do it all in one go. Roads all over the country were improved in sections.
The problem was that the Irish government promised money and then got hit by the crash . The North doesn't have the budget for this project. Things then got held up in the courts. Then Stormont collapsed. You couldn't make it up. And people are still dying

There has been a concentrated effort by one section of the community to make sure this road is never built.

Fenian road in Orange land. That's how they see it.

I just find that completely mental. Surely compulsory purchase orders can be used in this scenario. This is what your land is worth. End of conversation!

Well compulsory orders will be used. But the AA5A just cannot delay and bog it down in legal challenges ad infinitum.

Quote from: The Trap on March 05, 2024, 02:25:30 PMOK Trailer you tell us how Casement will make the 10 million a year it will need to wash its face?
Thats based on a 200 million spend with 5% running costs per annum.

Is this a serious post?

I don't get this obsession from pundits/commentators about scores from play. They all count the same.

Shane Mc Guigan leads the top scoring charts in division 1 by a clear 7 points (on 1-30).

So if a player scored 10 points in a game, 9 from play
And another player scored 10 points, 1 from play
You're saying they played equally as well?

Is there a caveat here of having watched this hypothetical game to make your decision? Or that you could tell just from the scoring stats?

What if he wins all the frees himself before kicking them over the bar?

Quote from: The Trap on March 05, 2024, 12:36:30 PMMost people I know don't think Casement is a good idea.

If built to current spec it will be an enormous drain on resources.

For example if Ulster Council make circa 1 million from an Ulster final in Clones they can spread most of that around.

In the future all of that and a whole lot more will have to go to the upkeep of Casement. It will be some burden for Antrim GAA in particular.

For vanity purposes it would be great to see it built but the GAA don't need it.

You don't know what you are talking about.

Quote from: imtommygunn on March 05, 2024, 10:05:57 AMFor those players though - most of whom will have no kind of hometown relationship with their club - it'll fairly elevate their wages for whatever period of time they're in it and if they negotiate their contracts right (e.g. no pay decrease on relegation) it's very lucrative for them.

For the fans I would say it'd be great for a while but then you'd soon get sick of getting tanked regularly.

Burnley and Sheffield United the two worst in it in a while. Kompany looked this great up and coming manager with how they did in the championship but he has really blotted his copy book now.

They are an absolute disgrace and I am beyond belief how some of these players made it as pro.

Look at the first few goals last night. Ball watching, not tracking runs, hands by side shrugging shoulders. f**king U12 stuff. Pathetic. SU fans have every right to be pissed. Running, tracking runs, getting close to people takes zero talent, it is just hard work. Their Keeper also had a shocker. Whole team has given up.

Quote from: Feckitt on March 01, 2024, 09:59:06 PMIf Casement doesn't happen due to bigotry and sectarianism then that truly will be the final nail in the coffin for Northern Ireland.  Nolan, Alistair etc just can't see that.
It's estimated to cost around 4 times the original £77m. The GAA refuse to budge on the £15m they pledged 15 years ago.
But bigotry & sectarianism....
Why would they offer more, the actual site is worth money, easy for  the GAA to see casement for private housing and build elsewhere. It was not their fault that it wasn't built and Rugby gave nothing and the IFA not much more. The GAA re-invests every penny in the grass roots more than can be said for either Rugby or Soccer.
Why would anyone else then? The GAA have a bottom line figure that they won't budge on. Fair enough but it's hard to complain that another body has too.

Also, it was not their fault it wasn't built? That's right. Everyone else is to blame for that.

Hold on. The GAA were 100% committed to a shared stadium and rowed in behind that committing games and money. It was not the GAA's fault it got pulled.

He is unhinged but you know he could have been a decent actor. He had a good start as a member of an established acting family but could have pushed on. Married to Billie Piper,  he was one who could have been a solid 'English man' stereotype actor but unfortunately he just became a ****.

Blast from the past. Some uproar when she was 18 and married that Ginger tosser Chris Evans who was 35.

So Gordon Lyons met with Stuart Andrew UK sports minister and never even discussed Casement. This is what we are dealing with. They'd rather no Euros and No Casement than see "the other side" benefit. The cost is an absolute red herring.
