Stumbled across Only Murders in the Building at the weekend. Enjoyed it.

A comedy murder, mystery with Steve Martin.

Funnily enough, I stumbled across it a few weeks ago too. Highly recommend it.

The Derry game in 95 was the best memory of all those years.

The Derry game of 1995 was the best memory of my lifetime following Tyrone - easily the best.

I know we won 4 AI titles but that day was hard to beat. Actually the first AI win was a bit of an anti climax. But in fairness the 2005 final was a brilliant final to win as was 2008.

The opposition, the rivalry, the excessive heat on the day, the tension in the stands, the tension on the pitch, red cards, the animosity, the hits, the intensity in the air, the late winner - it had absolutely everything.

We will never forget that day !!!!

100% agree with this but I'll add to that list, the complete arrogance of the Derry fans around us at half time and their growing sense of desperation as the second half unfolded 😁 Not sure if it was because I was younger or had a bit of drink in me that day but the elation at the final whistle that day was greater than I felt after any of the AI wins. It was also the day Peter announced himself as unequivocally the greatest footballer in the land. What a display he put on that day. Jimmy Magee on commentary for UTV's coverage, "if ever there was a point worth repeating over and over again...Peter Canavan is some footballer"
[/b]

One of the best lines of commentary there ever was. Jimmy Magee was the voice of that summer in 1995.

Another great line from jimmy that game was when Pascal got sent off and it showed the replay of his punches and he said "there's the right hook, left hook, and at this stage Canavan is leading on points" 🤣

A day that will never be forgotten by any Tyrone supporter.

Peter in possession and is knocked to the ground, gets up and pings it over the bar...Jimmy Magee "That man could kick points off the kitchen table" 😂

RIP Art. A Tyrone GAA great.

Really sad to hear the news of Big Arts passing today. He was the man who steered Tyrone through times when an All Ireland seemed a distant dream but eventually made us believe it was possible in 86 and 95 when he brought us so close. He took underage and school teams when nobody else was putting up their hands and drove forward high standards that set the foundations for what we take for granted today. Such a shame he never got to lift Sam as Tyrone manager but I've no doubt he took great pride in the role he played to get us there. The legacy he leaves with the Clarkes, Tyrone and indeed Ulster makes him one of the very few people who we can call a bonafide legend. After giving so much to the Clarkes, it's such a shame he didn't get to see his club run out for the first time on the new O'Neill park turf this Sunday, a project in which he was so instrumental. I'm sure he will be watching on with pride. RIP Big Art and thanks for the memories.

Just watched first two episodes of BBC's Wolf. It's a bit mental. I think I'll stick with it though
Watched the first one was disappointed didnt bother with the second

Stuck with it and actually really enjoyed it. Weird at times but plenty of twists.

Clifford will be first player since JACK o'Shea to win back to back player of year awards since Jack O'Shea.  Has it in the bag.
Matt Connor, Maurice Fitzgerald  and Peter Canavan 3 best forwards I ever saw. Clifford is above them now and not in his prime yet.

https://www.irishexaminer.com/sport/gaa/arid-41193340.html?fbclid=IwAR11-r9CbIng2ULXISzafucj3QP2r1dqa9LtzSimvwwiaYFIvF7rxKPhsbs

I think Clifford is an absolute genius, the best in the land by a country mile but none of the 3 lads mentioned would have missed the opportunities he had at vital moments yesterday. The lad is human and the pressure placed on him by Kerry and the wider GAA public is immense. All this GOAT nonsense and expectations placed every time he laces his boots are beginning to become unrealistic to live up to. He didn't play well yesterday and they lost. Had he played well they would most likely have won - that's the burden he carries every time he walks in a pitch. Yesterday showed that the burden of responsibility can grow as you get older and it can weigh heavily. Canavan was a master at carrying that burden and he did it for years without ever failing in those most vital of moments. I'm not specifically referring to the post I quoted here as Buzz didn't refer to Clifford as being the greatest of all time but it's been said very often in recent weeks. I reckon we let Clifford's career pan out before anointing him, there'll be plenty more clutch moments for him and I'm pretty sure he'll be up to the task.

I don't understand the Kerry mentality here. How does playing a game 7 days later weaken your chances of playing your best game?

Unfortunately the mentality among some Kerry GAA people is that prominent defeats have to be demeaned in some way or other. Easy enough to pull up plenty examples involving just Tyrone. Spillane's puke football jibe in 2003 which was seized upon, the county chairman the following year with the nauseating comments about Kerry saving football, the narrative pushed by some throughout that decade that it was a system or fitness that saw Tyrone win and that Kerry were the better footballers. And Covid in 2021, surely the strangest one yet given an extra week shouldn't have affected Kerry and Tyrone were still weakened. Kerry bounced back to win All Irelands on these occasions but that wasn't enough for some, they still had to try and talk down and cheapen the defeats suffered previously. Not a good look. But still a better one than using a global pandemic in which millions died for the cheapest of laughs.

There were Kerry folk in this era who stood above this - I remember Ger O'Keefe for example speaking with such class in 2005. Others in the county would do well to follow his example.

Good post.

Remember when they tried to claim Stephen O'Neill tried to poison them in 2019? Some of them aren't even gracious winners.

I wonder would Ciaran Meenagh and Paddy Tally make a compatible management team?

Big prize for the winner with the easier tie v Derry in the semi, should they get past a very improved Cork team.
It will be interesting to see how both managers approach this game tactically especially around restarts and do the play a running game.

Clifford often wins a lot of marks so you'd imagine Kerry will kick the ball a lot more or will they learn from the traps set for them the last time?

Will Tyrone push up on the Kerry kickouts?
Will Morgan go short if Kerry back off?

Are the semi final pairings already made?

For me it all hinges on David Clifford.

If he can be nullified Tyrone will win
If he's at the races Tyrone are goosed.

It's that simple IMO
I agree 100%. Who would be Tyrone's best option to man mark DC? Hampsey & McNamee are 2 outstanding defenders but i dont think they've the legs for him. Mckernan gets a yellow within 2 minutes.
Looks like a job for Meyler from my outsider's eye viewpoint.

I don't think the job on Clifford decides the match. I honestly think nobody can mark him out of the game if he's on song, so the key for Tyrone is doing their best with Clifford but trying to shut down O'Se and Paudie. If Clifford kicks 0-9 then so be it, the difference will be if O'Se and Paudie chip in with 8 or 9 between them, then we're in trouble. We have done a decent job of snuffing them out in recent games and nobody else in the Kerry forward line or midfield really worries me. The question is, what are Kerry going to do about the Canavan's, McCurry,  Donnelly and the Tyrone midfield?

Only player in GAA history to win an All-Ireland senior medal in both codes in the same season, a record that will probably won't be matched.  RIP Teddy.

Wasn't Denis Walsh part of both panels. I think he won the hurling All Ireland then didn't make the panel for the football final and missed out on a medal.

Loved watching Teddy when i was a kid, an absolute legend of our games. Was such a great athlete and to win two All Irelands in a year is just phenomenal. RIP Teddy.

Well done to Monaghan, showed great fighting qualities to get through in a tremendously entertaining game of football. I really hope we meet them again in an All Ireland quarter final in Croke Park.

The bizarre nature of this championship structure is that Tyrone are no better or no worse off now than they were this morning. They will still be in the round robin stages, will win enough games to get out of the group and then the really championship begins. Everything up to that point is pretty meaningless.

I hope the 5 weeks off enable Tyrone to build on the positives today. I was much happier with our attacking play, getting the ball forward much more quickly and we created scores more easily than we have done lately. Clearly there are issues defensively and big gaps which means we are shipping goals but hopefully that can be worked on.

Great excitement but awful penalties 🙈
