GAA Discussion / Win at all costs? AI final plea
September 01, 2008, 01:43:18 PM
The all Ireland football final is being contested by 2 very talented teams, but also the 2 teams probably involved in the most unsavoury stuff between them in this years championship.

We have seen refs notebooks smacked away, punches, diving, taunting of players, feigning injury to get players sent off, taunting of oppositions fans, cynical professional fouling, roaring abuse at the ref, not to mention deliberately trying to scare children with cynical beards.

I would appeal to both teams, think of the children, this final could be an all time classic if you just play football.

General discussion / Dublin flood appeals
August 12, 2008, 12:05:44 PM
Though the culchies and Nordies might appreciate this one  ;)

Finglas was hit badly by the floods over the weekend. Victims were seen wandering around aimlessly muttering ' Whaas da bleeeding Story ?' 'aaaaaawright bud' and 'fuuuucksake'.

The flooding decimated the area causing approximately 30 euro worth of damage. Several priceless collections of mementos from Benidorm and Santa Ponsa were damaged beyond repair. Three areas of historic burnt cars were destroyed. Many locals were woken well before their welfare cheque arrived.

RTE News reported that hundreds of residents were confused and bewildered, still trying to come to the terms with the fact that the damage had not been caused by illegal means.

One resident : Alexis Crystal Duffy, a 15 year old mother of 5 said 'It was such a F***in shock, me little wan Chardonnay Mercedes cem runnin inta me bedruem cryin, Me youngisst two Tyler Morgan an Megan Brooklyn slept tru ih all. But I was bleeedin shaken watchin F***in Rikki Laaake in da mornin'

Apparently though, looting, muggings and incidental crime did carry on as usual. The Irish Red Cross has so far managed to ship 4,000 crates of Strongbow, Dutch Gold, Frozen Pizzas, and John Player Blue to the area to help stricken locals.

Rescue workers are still searching through the rubble and have found large quantities of personal belongings, which include Welfare Books and Jewellery including thousands of Sovereign Rings, many large Medallions and Hash Leaf Shaped earrings from Elizabeth Duke at Argos also Fine Bone China from Tommy's Wonderland of Value.

This Appeal is to raise money for food and clothing Parcels for those unfortunate enough to be caught up in this disaster. Clothing is most sought after, items most needed include:
Fake Burberry or Kappa Baseball Caps
Hoodies (any type)
Tommy Hilfiger Tracks Suits (his and hers)
Nike/Adidas Shell Suits (female)
White Donnay Sports Socks Rockport Boots (and any other items usually sold in TK Maxx)
Anything from Magic or Unique

Food Parcels may be harder to come by as refrigeration may be a problem, but are needed all the same. Required Foodstuffs include:
McCains Oven Chips
Heinz Baked Beans
Goodfellas Frozen Pizzas
Coke/Fanta
Strongbow Cider
Smirnoff Ice
John Player Blue 15s

And Remember That Your Cash Contribution Also Counts!!!

Just 22c buys a biro for filling in the compensation forms and Bookies slips
Just 5 euro buys chips, crisps and blue fizzy drinks for a family of 9
Only 6 euro will pay for a packet of 20 Major to calm the nerves of those affected.

Thank You Very Much For Your Help

General discussion / Is soccer boring?
August 11, 2008, 01:42:15 PM
I like a bit of soccer every now and then, but after watching a GAA game and switching over it can seem very dull. I notice the curtain raiser for the English season ended up nil nil yesterday.

Then couldnt believe my eyes last night as the setanta sports news channel showed the results from the 8 olympic soccer games yesterday. Unless they got their info wrong, all 8 games finished nil nil. f**king hell!

GAA Discussion / Quarter final good will thread
August 09, 2008, 06:39:37 PM
No bitching or slagging allowed here!

Simple rule here, if you dont have anything nice to say, this thread aint for you.

I'll start by saying fair play to all 4 sides for giving us a great days entertainment today.

And fair play to the GAA for putting the Dubs back a week, I'd have been on the hill in that storm!

Well someone had to start a thread, its all over the radio and on some front pages.

From what I gather the guy was playing in an under 14 game in Dr Cullen park and was racially abused by a gang of teenagers at the game.

I do hate this shite and the young lads should be fecked out of the club for a while at least, no place for that shite in our games.

That said, the front page of todays daily star leaves a lot to be desired. Yes report it, but young lads are REGULARLY racially abused in soccer games up and down the country and it wouldnt make the paper, never mind the front page.
Even Newstalk threw in the comment that the young lads throwing the abuse "may have been egged on by several adults".

May have been? Did it happen or not?
I'm not saying it didnt, but unless you are sure, dont go throwing out the impression that it did.

Thats my rant over, theres no need for racism ANYWHERE in our society, and it should be highlighted if it happens in the GAA.

This is why I started the thread, heads in the sand attitudes arent healthy either.

But the media need to balance this up and prove that they arent just out to get the GAA.
This happens all the time in soccer.

They couldnt even wait to get off the bus!!  ;)

A bus carrying 40 Belfast music fans to the Oxegen music festival caught fire on Dublin's M50 today causing traffic chaos in the area.

Both southbound lanes of of the M50 were blocked, with traffic tailing back as far as the junction with the M1. The single-deck coach caught fire at about 1pm between the Finglas and Blanchardstown exits, and motorists have been warned to avoid the area.

According to AA Roadwatch, northbound traffic is also very heavy from before the toll bridge to the Ballymun exit, with onlookers causing serious delays.

Major knock-on delays were also being experienced on the M1, and traffic on the N2 also experienced serious delays approaching the M50, the AA said.

There were no immediate reports of any injuries following the incident.

Gardai evacuated the passengers and four Dublin Fire Brigade crews - from Finglas, Phibsboro, and Kilbarrack stations - put out the fire.

GAA Discussion / Shocking Kerry indiscipline
July 09, 2008, 02:08:45 PM
First Galvin with his carry on with the ref, now 2 red cards and Donaghy screaming at the referee.

Jaysus theres been so many incidents in the past 2 games one would be forgiven for mistaking them with the Dubs  ;)

Wont somebody please think of the children?

Surely it would be a tragedy for the game if this shower of gurriers won Sam?   8)

Trying to change address to an eircom one, put the eircom incoming server name in, and the outgoing vodafone one.

When I hit send / recieve I get this..

Your server has unexpectedly terminated the connection. Possible causes for this include server problems, network problems, or a long period of inactivity. Account: 'home', Server: 'mail1.eircom.net', Protocol: POP3, Port: 110, Secure(SSL): No, Socket Error: 10053, Error Number: 0x800CCC0F

any ideas from the more IT minded out there?

I'd be very interested to see how long a ban McQuaid of Monaghan gets after yesterdays sending off.
I dont wish to suggest he get any particular amount of time, but I'm sure the Dublin and Meath players currently serving 8 week bans will be looking on with great interest.

Apoligies for opening a seperate thread, but this is purely to compare whatever ban he gets with other intercounty players around the country.

I wonder will certain ex Meath playing reporters be suggesting 8 weeks wont be nearly enough?
