General discussion / ' Lost Posters of 2007'
December 13, 2007, 11:44:39 PM
It dawned to me that we have lost a few posters in the past year and I was hoping we could get a few names out there of people we lost along the way.

Star springs to mind. Dromintee's finest couldnt handle the strain of taking abuse about his teams constant losing to cross and so departed these shores.

A few others.

Tyronelass.
Anluabu.
Armaghfan.
Randall Patrick McMurphy.
Rafferotti.

It is a matter of history that when the Supreme Commander of the Allied Forces, General Dwight Eisenhower found the victims of the death camps, he ordered all possible photographs to be taken and for the German people from the surrounding villages to be ushered through the camps and even made to bury the dead. He did this he said, in words to this effect;  "Get it all on record now - get the films - get the witnesses - because somewhere down the track of history some ******* will get up and say that this never happened.

"All that is necessary for the triumph of evil is for good men to do nothing"   Edmund Burke

IN MEMORIAL

This week, the UK removed the Holocaust from it's school curriculum because it "offended" the Muslim population because they say it never occurred.

This is a frightening portent of the fear that is gripping the world and how easy each country is giving into it.

It is now more than 60 years since the 2nd. World War in Europe ended. This e-mail is being sent as a memorial chain, in memory of the 6 million Jews, 20 million Russians, 10 million Christians and 1,900 Catholic priests who were murdered, massacred, raped, starved, burned and humiliated while German and Russian people looked the other way!

Now more than ever, with Iran among others, claiming the Holocaust to be a myth, it is imperative to make sure the world never forgets.

I think that this decision in England is an absolute disgrace and I would have thought that since appeasement never worked for the brits in the past they might have learned from history not to pander to extremists.

I think that it is time they developed a backbone and stopped runing scared of this segment of their society

I know we have had a Chuck thread before  before but what the hell, it's been a while
Filming on location for Walker: Texas Ranger, Chuck Norris brought a stillborn baby lamb back to life by giving it a prolonged beard rub. Shortly after the farm animal sprang back to life and a crowd had gathered, Chuck Norris roundhouse kicked the animal, breaking its neck, to remind the crew once more that Chuck giveth, and the good Chuck, he taketh away.

Chuck Norris lost his virginity before his dad did.

Chuck Norris built a time machine and went back in time to stop the JFK assassination. As Oswald shot, Chuck met all three bullets with his beard, deflecting them. JFK's head exploded out of sheer amazement.  (Wow thats a bit rough)

Chuck Norris only masturbates to pictures of Chuck Norris.

Theres your starter for ten.

Stephen Ireland looks sure to be in Manchester City's squad for Saturday's trip to Fulham despite posting a bizarre message on the internet questioning his desire to play football.

City officials are paying little attention to a statement by Ireland on the Bebo social networking website under the name 'Daddy Dick', in which he claimed 'football is s***' and asked 'why did I get stuck doin(g) it'.

Coming so soon after he was branded 'stupid' by his manager Sven-Goran Eriksson over erroneous claims that first one, then the other of his grandmothers had died, as he attempted to remove himself from Republic of Ireland duty last week when, in fact, his girlfriend has suffered a miscarriage, the latest statement has raised more concerns about Ireland.

It has been reported Ireland has been advised to seek psychological advice by Eriksson. But senior figures within the Blues hierarchy have stressed this is not the same type of counselling Joey Barton was forced to undergo during his time with the Eastlands outfit.

Indeed, Ireland has been at City's Carrington training complex all week and, after sitting out Sunday's win over Aston Villa, is expected to earn a recall to Eriksson's squad at Craven Cottage.

Stephen Ireland, or 'Father Richard' as he likes to be known on the web is once again steeped in controversy, the poor lad needs a break from football and hopefully can sort himself out before he goes completely off the rails. Stephen get help my good man.

Bill Walsh, the legendary San Francisco coach died Today aged 75. Walsh was the man that brought the NFL the west coast offense and it considered one of the top three coaches of all time alongside the Cowboys Tom  Landry and Vince Lombardi of the green bay Packers.

Walsh groomed superstars such as Joe Montana and Steve Young and has an impressive number of top coaches that have went on to become head coaches in the league including Mike Holmgren who himself went on to win a superbowl with the Green Bay Packers.
Bill walsh won i believe 6 western conference titles and 3 superbowls in ten yeras, that takes some doing!

Bill you were a class act, I had the privilege of hearing him speak at a work function 5 years ago and he was a powerful speaker and motivator. RIP Bill.

I was wondering who you lot thought Killed Princess Diana or if you believe it was an accident, I have a couple of mates that live in Wisconsin (left footers) and they swear that Di was bumped off by MI5 with the queens blessing.

Disclaimer: I am not into conspiracy theories although I never believe the British version of the truth however I find it hard to believe the Queen was involved, that said I do think she was taken out by the root. What do you lot think?

This is for any of the former Longstone United heads on here, can someone confirm when the 25th aniversary do is going to be held as I would like to attend if possible as I played the the likes of Rafferoti, Rufus and of course Egg, longstones greatest ever player.

I think this will be a great night out and I am going to do what I can to be there on the big night and I called the Harps club the night and spoke briefly to bennydorano and mark the barber, he indicated that september the 29th was the date and as soon as that is confirmed I am going to call Uncle Sean in London and once he confirms he is there I am going to book my flight. the following are the old heads I remember playing with back in the day when longstone was the be all and end all to me because of who I had the privilege of playing beside.

Joe head. ( great craic and second best keeper I ever played with)
Gola Toner (armagh star who had to play centre half because I was the sweeper) :P
Bill goat.(carried us against lurgyvallen in the first ever game, great dribbler who never looked above the waist)
Jams Carlisle.(goalscoring legend, broke his leg and we didnt know enough to throw him a benefit, shame  :-[
Benny McShane. (classy right back, too nice for Longstone)
Beasel McShane. ( big git, great in the air)
Weasel Donnelly. (hardest bastard ever to play for rus)
Legs Rath.( polished defender but too often injured)
Jim O'Hare. ( quick we hoor)
Stumpy. ( lunatic)
John G (head) 2nd most important player in our history.
Houlie. hard as nails defender, gave his all except when he was on the bones on a friday night.
Finbar. (best ever defender by a country mile.
Miko. ( class personified)
Chile McGrail. (skillful fecker)
Egg kelly. (I always admired him for defying the Saturday ban) most influencial player ever.
Ian Donnelly. (great man for a quicky at half time.  :D)
Tony Donnelly (excellent footballer)
Gribso. ( another excelent footballer, cantankerous ballix but a likeable fecker)
Bronco Breen, skillful player, class with every touch.
Colin M'Cann (scored the two best goals I ever seen when we needed the the most)
Maxi Mackey, did well after Ifecked off to the states.
Noel Murphy( solid defender in the early years)
Rufus ( tremendous presence in the box, just like spud after a night out in the Marine. ;)

I have probably left out a bunch of great characters but I look forward to meeting everyone in late September if I can make it.

My best ever starting 11 for Longstone.

GAA Discussion / WP 11 years or so on.
February 27, 2007, 12:21:01 AM
I remember well the last time our anthem was played in WP........................lets just say the crowd at Croker acted with a lot more class than the WP crowd did. That said I wonder how it would be received nowadays in WP?
