Was there not a Galway boy who was on the same team as Donnelan and Joyce at underage who was supposedly better at the time? (I think? Donnelan and Joyce same age?). It was a st jarlaths team.

John concannon

Yeah, that's him. Himself and John Divilly are both part of the Galway backroom team.

Did Concannon ever play league for Galway? He was a class minor. I remember him in 94.

there was a reddington lad for Galway a few years back was brilliant  as a minor . dont know if he ever played senior.
there was an interesting article in the Program for the minor final about top scorers in Previous finals from 2000 about half of the made it to any degree and the rest i had not heard of . ill try and find it.

Damien Reddington. He was on Galway minor team in 07 that beat Derry in minor final. He got a late goal to win game. Don't think ever played senior.  Was on Galway junior team for a couple years. Paul Conroy only player from that Galway minor team to play in senior final last week.

Without looking like I am just trying to discourage debate, can we all agree to close this thread as it is a waste of everyone's time, and time is money. Move along quickly.

Probably right, you know best and are obviously way smarter than everyone else. Pack up the tent lads, the man has spoken.
;)

Anthony Cunningham made his debut on the inter-county scene at the age of fifteen when he first linked up with the Galway minor team. He  captained All-Ireland-winning on his last year after  losing  2 AI  finals

I just saw a program from a 94 game where that st jarlaths team were playing. Donnelan, Joyce brothers, Meehan brothers, concannon and John divilly. Some line up.

Mal Mackin relation?

Nope. His da was MF for the Armagh seniors by times back in the early 80's, Des senior. Big hoor as a child. His a cousin of mine through our grannies. Was some footballer,  a real man child. Still in good shape too though he prefers selling cupcakes in Spain!!!

Best I've seen were Tadhg Kennelly, Darren O'Sullivan and David Clifford.
Honourable mention to Charlie Nelligan who after winning the minor All-Ireland in 1975, was on the bench for the senior final. 2 All-Irelands in the space of a couple of hours, not bad going. He also won the u21 All-Ireland that year for a unique treble.

I'm guessing Brendan Reidy has another unique treble in winning 3 All-Ireland minor medals.

14 Kerry players completed a minor and senior double this year. Again surely a record?

Des Mackin (Cullyhanna) played four years as a minor for Armagh.

1990 - played centre back
1991 - played full forward and scored a hattrick in the the first round Vs Down
1992 - played full forward on the team that won Ulster and lost the All Ireland final to a last minute Meath goal
1993 - played full forward and played for the seniors the same year
Same Des Mackin that played for Na Fianna in Dublin?

see that team play, they were outstanding, they beat a top quality Maghera team in the Hogan final.

I think Ronan Clarke in Armagh has 5 in a row county club minor titles including one Ulster club minor, think the county minor teams in his era were average enough but he was YPOTY in 2002 as an 18 year old, so not too shabby.
