Is this league cup going to turn out to be a complete farce?  Looks like Lavey has conceded all their games already!?

Surely Lavey could field their fringe players or reserves if they dont want their seniors to compete in this league cup. Or is there a cup competition for reserves as well?

I wouldn't say it'll turn out a complete farce but I certainly don't think it'll go as well as intended.  Many of the club players that I've spoken with would rather have a break from action for a week or two rather than running off another 7 games that have very little meaning.

Two solutions that I think would improve the overall approach would be to either remove the reserve fixtures in it allowing clubs to field a mix of senior and reserve players, reducing the strain on clubs that don't have big panels (county players aren't able to play in this competition) and allowing older / injured players to take a rest if needed.
Alternatively, split the divisions into 4 groups of 4 rather than just 2 smaller leagues.  Each club then plays just 3 games which could be held every other weekend allowing players a week off in between and then the winners of each group play in a semi final and final for the "League Cup".

I can understand the thinking behind it but with a few small tweaks it would be even more beneficial to players looking extra games but also keen to have a break in action.
Would this not be a great opportunity to play the u21 competition?

I don't think so as players on the u20 & Senior County panels would not be available to the club u21 teams.  Plus the idea of these cup games is to have regular football for the ordinary club player while inter county players are unavailable.  I think this is a good idea in principle and would commend the CCC for their efforts in trying something like this, especially when the training to game ratio is so poor already.  No doubt the format can be tweaked and improved but it will take buy in & feedback from the clubs to make it a success.

I feel this year could set a marker of how the competition is viewed. If it was taken seriously the competition could grow over the next couple of years to be a worthwhile competitive tournament however I feel if a team (or more than one) pulsl out and it's not taken very seriously then more clubs could feel its not worthwhile next year and rather than get 7 meaningless games over 10 weeks could take a 2-3 week break then get 2-3 tough friendlies lined up the couple of weeks leading upto the 2nd round of league games.

Yeah, it will all depend on how the clubs treat it.  Not a good start with Lavey pulling out already.  Personally I'd have liked to have seen a regional championship  played at this stage in Senior Intermediate & Junior.  Group stages then into quarter/semi Finals.  Short travel times so midweek games could be played & local rivalries with a North/South Derry championship trophy as a prize to give it some importance to the clubs/players

Lallana injured apparently, out for up to a month with thigh strain.

Could be a blessing in disguise as he wasn't offering much in the first couple of games but Rodgers seemed intent on persisting with him.

Gives Firmino a possibility of his first start.  Henderson doubtful also, wouldn't be surprised to see midfield three of Milner Can & Lucas.  Mad how they are considering letting Lucas leave without replacing him.

Would be happy with a draw tonight, can see us being under the cosh for a lot of the game

By the way I'd view speeding as worse than using illegal diesel.

Great point. I speed excessively and frequently and it's a terrible thing to be doing but hard to break the habit. People go on about drink-driving being a horrible thing to do but speeding probably causes more deaths per year than DD.

Would very much agree. Some would class a law breaker as a law breaker, others would see a hierarchy. Personally I would sleep better after filling the car with green diesel rather than pick pocketing someone.

I find it hard to understand why someone would get so annoyed by someone breaking a diesel law. Virtually all other laws are worse to break

Do you see using green or red diesel as a victimless crime?

What about washed diesel, is it ok or not?

It's not a victimless crime.  If the duty received by the Government from the sale of white diesel was sufficient then they would not have to increase the duty in the annual Budgets.  The more red/green is used the easier it is for the Government to justify placing further onerous taxes on us.  Strange as it may seem but I have never run my car on red even though I have been tempted.  Given the proliferation of dipping bastardos down here it's simply would not be worth the risk as I'm always on the road.  And anyway the level of savings in diesel in the South is so high that it would be pure greed to do otherwise.  I simply take the big yoke to the station and fill her and the 4 jerry cans in 1 run and it would fill the 2 cars in 1 go.  If I compared the price I pay to the price in the local station (albeit owned by money grabbing Down gits :P)  it saves me on average £25 a week for the 2 cars.

If someone wants to put red in it then run it but it's like everything else actions have consequences so be willing to take them.

So its not right for people to run on the red because the UK Gov miss out on the tax and therefore have to increase the duty....  How much tax are the UK gov getting from the clear diesel you are buying in the south??  :o
Is it legal to fill Jerry cans and bring them up North??

A friend of mine has one in on the same scheme. The pellet boiler has give him trouble about 5 times this winter, from sensors failing to not firing up. The last load of pellets were pure dirt and had to be replaced but Balcas would not refund the full amount. He has also has not received any money yet for the cost of the pellets.

I would say to people it may sound an attractive offer with the payment for 7 years but bear in mind that governments change and I have heard talk of this payment been reduced.

Do you know what company he went through to buy/install the boiler or what the make of the boiler is?  The reliability and performance of the boiler would be my main concern about going down the biomass route

Obtained planning permission for a new house.
Considering a log burner for the heating with the renewable heat incentive now available in the North.
Have anyone any opinion on same, or what other form of heating system would be recommended.

Same stage as yourself North Man and considering a wood pellet burner.  The proposed house is story and a half, 2500 sq ft. I sent a copy of my plans to a Renewable Energy company and they gave me a quote of around £5500 for the burner including installation and labour. They done a calculation and estimate that I would get around £900 a year back through RHI for 7 years, plus you get a payment of £2,500 through RHI when the boiler is commissioned.  You would need a garage/shed to house the burner, so if you weren't planning on building one with the house you would have to factor that into the cost as well.

If the RHI calculations I was given are near the mark it seems to make sense financially, and you would think that even after 7 years when the RHI payments stop that you would still be saving as wood pellets are likely to be cheaper than oil, although there isn't much difference in price between the two at the minute.

The main concern I have is the operation of the burner itself, there is a bit more maintenance in them than an oil burner as you have to load them with Bags of pellets and clean them regularly (empty the ash).  That wouldn't be a big deal but from looking online some people were complaining that they had constant issues with the burner and as they aren't as common as oil burners it can cost a fortune to get someone to repair them  http://blog.greenwisebusiness.co.uk/2013/04/10-things-your-installer-wont-tell-you-before-you-purchase-a-biomass-boiler/

So I guess I'm asking the same question, does anybody have any experience of wood pellet burners or know anybody who has one and would be able to advise on whether they are worth it?

Good to see the united fans not letting a shambles of a season get in the way of their main focus  ;D

Did you actually just post a link to a story about Liverpool in that paper?

Did that paper run a story on the Liverpool fans killing the Juventus supporters at Heysel??

You stay classy Walter

You's dont like discussing that as freely!!

Obviously you do!  I have seen plenty of discussion on it on Liverpool forums, especially around the anniversary of the event.

I don't think the death of 39 people should be used to try and wind up fans of rival teams, but hey that's just me.
