Des Mackin (Cullyhanna) played four years as a minor for Armagh.

1990 - played centre back
1991 - played full forward and scored a hattrick in the the first round Vs Down
1992 - played full forward on the team that won Ulster and lost the All Ireland final to a last minute Meath goal
1993 - played full forward and played for the seniors the same year
Same Des Mackin that played for Na Fianna in Dublin?
Yep its the same Des

Lowe, Aki, Gibson-Park, Treadwell, Hanson and Bealham I think, Carberry born in New Zealand but moved here at 7 so wouldn't count him as "foreign"

Never mind the fact that Carberryís parents are Irish.

*as well as a fair few on the football list no doubt but that wont stop MR2 (NI)
I would have thought most of the football list have Irish heritage, as in a parent, grandparent etc that was Irish. Are the rugby lads the same? Itís a genuine question as I donít really follow much rugby.

As far as I know in recent years CJ Stander, Aki, Lowe, Gibson Park and Kleyn have all qualified to play for Ireland through the residency rule...Rob Herring could be another, not certain on him and there's probably others I've missed but the likes.of carberry, bealham, hanson and Treadwell all have a parent/grandparent as you say.
Jared Payne and Quinn Roux also qualified under the residency rule in recent times

Tragic news from Lavey this evening with the passing of Collie McGurk , RIP and condolences to the McGurk family.

Jesus that game in 98 brings back bad memories  ,2001 Ciaran McNally going off injured was a huge blow we never recovered from , 2007 minors from memory we were leading near the end and had a scorable free overturned for a hop ball which i think Galway won and scored their goal from ( memory could be playing tricks on me though )

The minor memories ties in with my memory too - certainly I've always remembered it as a Galway goal with virtually the last kick to win it.
Conroy and McKaigue both survivors of that game!

McKaigue will not have happy memories of that hop ball - if i'm right it was awarded against him for goading after the initial free was won.
Lot of 'outrage' at the time around Caffreys' Dublin doing it it and McKaigue was picked up for it.

Never seen him do it since so prehaps there is a lesson there for those wanting to cut out unsavoury elements of the game.
Yep that's my recollection too for why the hop ball was given

I see Clann na nGael are fielding a combined team with Craigbane at U13 & U15 levels in Derry this year - anyone familiar with it know how that works?
Apparently they play as Craigbane in the Derry league this year and then as Clan na Gael next year in the Tyrone league

Be no where near as many as the ulster final, travel distance. Saturday,

You're forgetting the bandwagon that has been hitched on.

A day out in Dublin, on Saturday, no work (for some) the following day. Only ourselves heading that direction.
Championship QF in Croke Park - was the 2007 QF the last time we had big C'ship game there?

Realistically its only another hour on down the road from Clones on better roads, without the tailbacks and hassles of Clones, Aughnacloy, Fivemiletown etc.

Could draw out more supporters, not less.

I was at the Semi final v Kerry 2004.  Very poor crowd and it was a Saturday but Kerry dont travel much unless its a final, different buzz this time. Paul Galvin destroyed us that day

That game was on a Sunday. O'Sullivan ran the show for Kerry, incredible player

Ah you might be right, I was down whole weekend, O'Sullivan was good but i couldnt believe Galvins running ability that day.
He was unreal that day ,From memory Frances McEldowney had the unfortunate task of trying to mark him.

Great result for the Derry Minors today, deserved winners over Cork in Portlaoise

Yep. Cork we're very very poor though . Didn't think standard was good, too young
Makes that Munster final result look even more puzzling ( they beat Kerry by 11 points 3 weeks after getting beat by Kerry by 14 in the round robin stages )  that being said Derry put on a great team performance.

Thought that side overachieved winning Ulster and half expected this today. I hope Derry go on to win it. Coupled with the MacRory success, the future is bright for them as well as ourselves.
I didn't see the Tyrone game but was surprised that they were kept to such a low score today , I saw them against  Donegal in the  semi final as well as the Ulster Final and they had  some serious quality in the forward line in McElohm  and Grimes amongst others.

I think it wad Division 2 but I definitely  remember Derry playing Cork in the hurling league at Lavey about 88/89 , McGilligan , Scullion and McGurk in addition to the Downeys would also have been very good hurlers from the 93 AI team

Looking forward to a great atmosphere at Clones on Sunday , sounds as if it could well be the first time in a  long time that our support will outnumber the oppositions

The last time I was in Clones McKaigue made his championship debut (2008) and now he is the oldest player. I've been to 3 Derry games in 10 years. I think if Derry win it will be a bit of an anti climax feeling[/b], I think it is the children who would enjoy things more. I went to the Ulster Final in 2000 when I was 8, I have good memories of it but still would have been better if Derry had won.
As someone who's been to the majority of county games in the same time, it'd be far from an anticlimactic experience. The county would absolutely love to win an Ulster title. With respect, it'd mean a lot more to Derry than Donegal for me, given their relatively recent provincial success.
I couldn't agree more with you , its really bittersweet for me ,in 2011 I took my Father and Father in law to that Ulster final who  have both passed on since then , all being will this will be my 11 year old sons first Ulster final.

Is the minor final being played before it? possibly they are holding some back to see who  gets through?
