Picked this up on www.mayofans.com there a while ago......

Below is a quote from Board member "grainne uaile"....

-----------------------------------------------------------------------------
Mayo Fans will be interested in this documentary next Saturday morning atd 9.10 on RTE Radio One (note Radio - not TV) The following is a description of it in this week's Mayo News:

A documentary which examines the state of football in Mayo over the last 50 years will be aired next Saturday, June 27.  The programme entitled "The Script of Hurt" is presented and produced by John Scally, the author of a number of sports books including "Best of the West: Connacht GAA Greats".  It will  be broadcast at
9.10 am on RTE Radio One.

The documentary looks at the story of Mayo football since the glory days of 1950 and 1951 in the company of Paddy Prendergast, Seán Freyne (who captained the Mayo minor team in 1953), Willie McGee, John O'Mahony, Willie Joe and Billy Joe Padden, TJ Kilgallon, Mary O'Neill (mother of former Mayo star Kevin) and legendary Roscommon footballer Dermot Earley, who was born in Mayo.  Among the issues to be examined are the legend of a curse put on the 1951 team by a priest angered at a funeral being interrupted, the tragic death of Ted Webb in 1976 and the murder of John Morley and Henry Byrne in 1980

I was at the challenge match on Friday night up in Naomh Mearnóg......Very bad performance by the Dubs so close to a championship match....I actually think there was 17 subs used...not great for a manager wanting to have a "settled" team....

The DuUbs look big, strong lads but jaysus their football skills were poor...Had a huge amount of wides..Ger Cafferky kept Brogan very quiet....Mayo were after stepping off a bus as well to play this match....not a bad performance by them!

I've lumped on Meath to win this one at 9/4....

Lads,
anyone else listening to Midwest, they are about 10 secs behind the live coverage

10 seconds is giving them credit! I thought I was listening to a different match!

not long back up on the eastern seaboard here.....what a game! I must admit at half time I was wondering why I picked a cold wet day in Tuam watching Mayo getting beat around the park instead of a possible day at the races up in Leopardstown looking at some prospects for the new Flat season....

the first half was bad, but in fairness to the lads they played against a fairly strong breeze and a galway team, who with one M.Meehan seemed to be playing very well....apart from once or twice, meehan had the beating of cafferky throughout the first half...ronaldson was back playing his sweeper role....the forwards seemed starved of possession...just as the half-time whistle was about to go, david clarke came out and got man/ball/the lot whilst stopping another galway advance on goal...the resultant penalty was amazingly put wide by Meehan...

as the Mayo lads came out (with Conor Mort by the way!) for the second half, well, the galway lads didnt.......was this a ploy by Sammon to leave us out in the cold p!ssy weather for a while??? it didnt work..before we knew it we had scored 1-1! ronaldson played the ball soccer-esque along the ground and neatly passed it to O'shea...Goal! ((these two could have been useful last night in Croker))

it was nip and tuck then for the rest of the half...PJ missed a free from nearly the corner flag to level it thank god......

a few players who stood out for me.........

* Ger Cafferky - In the first half I thought he was getting cleaned by Meehan...In fairness he kept meehan quiet from around the end of the first half and all through the 2nd (fair enough, glaway couldnt get the ball up near him at times in the 2nd half..)

* Conor Mort - I think the "drop" did him the world of good...he came out in the second half and I couldnt believe my eyes when I saw him make a tackle on a galway back coming out with the ball!!

* Aidan O'Shea - A complete nuisance to the galway backs...I'd say a few of them thought "what the hell does this 19 year old think he's doing"!! played well and got a few nice points...

* Ronan McGarrity - I thought he was brutal against Dublin Ballina but today he was brilliant...galways midfield were pretty poor but he stood up and was counted...

* Trev Mort - Must get the captaincy role this year.....

* Tom Cunniffe - kept PJ quiet all day...say no more!.

Delighted with the win...a LOT of work to do still though....

It would be a suprise if Galway don't get at least three goals on their way to a 10 to 15 point win and a standing ovation from the nation

no doubt the Fields of Athenry will be belted out as well.... ::) ::)

QuoteThe ordinary worker up to management in banks imo cannot be held accountable.

couldnt agree with you more there lynchboy.....the amount of abuse that ordinary Bank Officials are getting on a daily basis is wrong...plain and simple....I heard a story there the other day of a young girl who was working behind the till in a certain high profile Bank branch down the country just lodging money/cashing cheques etc, got a bolli*king about the "fat-cats in the bank" from a customer who was in her queue......other customers applauded his outburst?!? ??? ??? ???

This girl was probably only in the bank a few years and earning a sub €30K a year salary and pays her taxes fair and square like the rest of us....people need to cop on a bit....

((sorry, rant over....))

Just looked at the club mayo-dublin website there and it's actually a tour operator whose organising that...the club mayo lads appear to be just "drawing peoples attention to it" so to speak! It looks enough alright but I think it includes insurance, transfers to the hotel etc?

should be a good extended weekend..... :D :D

I hear the players won't be going training after it like 2004 (I think) when they went to the Catskills.....too many doing exams etc which is fair enough....

Barney, your title on this post makes you worthy of a red-top journalist...excellent!  :D :D

The match against Derry has been well discussed on a previous post so I won't dwell on that either.....A few players need to "get their @rse in gear" as a former manager of mine once said to us in a Minor match..there's many's a young lad round the country who would give anything to get a chance to play in their county jersey.....the passion to play for the green and red so evidenced by great players in the past seems to be missing at the moment....some players seem more concerned with boot deals, their level of fake tan/hair gel/moisturiser etc than getting on and giving it 110%....

if that is not back in abundance by Valentines night then we could be on a hiding to nothing this year...

ballybofey as far as I know....on Valentines night!!! ::) ::)

I don't see Mayo doing much in the League this year.....I think we are lacking a lot of leaders in key areas of the park (apart from Clarke in goals of course) and this was very evident in our last proper match against Tyrone.....

Should be a decent match all the same...by the sounds of previous Derry posters they are re-building too...

The way things are going politically, I would personally be very surprised if there isn't a General Election next year.......and where does that leave JOM???

If one is called for c.May, then (presuming he goes for re-election of course) the whole canvassing and knocking on doors will be back again for him...I think next year will be a crucial year in the JOM reign.....A run similar to this year and I feel he may kiss goodbye to 2 extra years....(contracts don't mean a lot these days...whether you work for Mayo GAA or the local factory down the road it would seem!!)

A good League campaign (staying up!) is going to take a bit of planning.....A trip to NYC cant be organised the week before the plane leaves Ireland West (Knock to most normal people!) airport....and hopefully then a Connacht championship run must yield some success......

"hows things, any chance of the vote???"

For those of us going to the match and not linked to a GAA club up here in the big shmoke, there appeared to be a bit of confusion on Ticketmaster yesterday in that it was a "post-only" option available when buying the tickets......

just looked at www.clubmayo.ie there and the lads have confirmed that you can purchase tickets online and get them e-mailed to you directly using ticket-fast.....all sorted!!
