General discussion / Blackberry Help
January 03, 2013, 09:03:34 PM
Lads, i have a Blackberry 9320, i have a media card in it with approx. 300 odd songs on it. Every now and again the phone re-boots its self out of the blue. I have read on other boards that the media card can cause this issue, does anyone on here know anything about this and any ways to resolve it. I only use the media side of things when out running along with a running app.

All the music is downloaded on to the media card from itunes. the media card has lots of space for the music.
I may add i am no genius when it comes to this, be warned....

Thanks.

GAA Discussion / Respect for the Sam Maguire
November 08, 2011, 01:37:26 PM
Maybe i'm turning into a grumpy old codger, but i was out last night with some clients. We ended up in Coppers (paying the price today, let me tell you). Anyway, a brother of one of the Dublin footballers had the Sam Maguire with him and a lot of people wanted their photo taken with it. Fair enough. But the amount of drink that was spillled into it, the way it was thrown around the place and the general lack of respect shown to the cup was i have to say was eye opening. Speaking as a GAA man i think this fine trophy and what it stands for in Irish life deserves a little bettter, than been treated like an empty bean can. Rant over, hangover bubbling nicely now.

General discussion / Buying a used Van
January 28, 2011, 09:28:35 AM
Lads,
I am in the market for a used Transit, LWB, would prefer a high roof, though not essential. Wont be spending a lot on it, 2-4k pounds, prefer to buy up North. It needs to be fairly tidy etc. Would prefer to buy off a garage/dealer than an auction to be honest. Any recommendations?
Thanks.

Sign of the times i suppose. The curse of Anglo Irish is having some knock on effect across all business sectors.

The High Court has appointed two joint provisional administrators to Quinn Insurance Ltd.

Mr Justice John Cooke made the order following an application by lawyers on behalf of the Financial Regulator.

The application was made under the 1983 Insurance act.

Michael McAteer and Paul McCann from Grant Thornton have been appointed by the High Court to act as the two joint provisional administrators.

They have been instructed to begin their work immediately.

The court heard the Regulator took this action following serious concerns about the way the group was managing its affairs.

The development means the administrators will run the business as a going concern under different management in the interest of policy holders.

The Regulator now has an on-site presence in the company's offices.

The administrators will run only the general insurance businesss and Quinn's life insurance business remains unaffected.

I am listening to IBEC and the SME business lobbies on the radio every second week talking about the amount of businesses going under due to the credit restrictions put on them by the banks. I wonder however is this the fullstory going on my recent experiences. I work for a reasonably large business, have taken pay cuts etc. so i know there is without doubt hardship out there, but are some businesses still in the "Celtic tiger era" when it comes to thier business philosophies and practices.

The two recent examples are;
1. I was in the market for a brand new car (VW Golf) in the past few weeks, I went to a large midlands garage at 12.45 to look at the car only to be told by the salesman that is was alomst one o clock and could i come back at 2 to see the car. Needless to say i didn't. Finally, i decided to buy the car from a large dealer in Dublin. I rang him to pay the deposit and asked could i pick up the car on a Saturday, I was told no i couldn't as Saturday was their " new customers day" and they wouldn't be in a position to accomodate me. I told him i was about to pay a deposit but still the answer was no. I went up the North bought the car there and the difference in service was unbelievable, they dropped the car to the house for me (Lisburn to Dublin), 2 years full service free of charge and a full tank of Diesel and still managed to save a few quid.

2. The second experience; i am looking to get some work done around the house (approx. 3 grand), the amount of companies i have contacted about this work and between promises of call backs which haven't happened and lads on holidays is astonishing. I have been trying to get someone for a month now and still no joy, i know 3 grand isn't a massive job but i thought someone would be interested.

I am wondering if other posters on here have had similar experiences and are businesses really desperate for work or did the easy credit available to them make them lose their sharpness and their hard work ethic.

How out of touch are these idiots. He was only bothered that Miriam called him "the minister for snow" Twats the lot of them.

General discussion / Unbelievable No.2
December 17, 2009, 12:48:21 PM
It seems that a new 300 million Euro by-pass in Carlow will not be opened until after Christmas following representations from a petrol station owner on the old route to the minister of Transport. The NRA said the road is ready to go next Monday, but the minister won't sign off on it until early Jan. I can't find a link anywhere but it was discussed just before 8 on Morning Ireland. The reason the minister's department gave for not opening the road was " it's too close to Chriatmas". Good to see the greater good is put before self interest by FF. This country .............................

I have been listening to this show nearly every Sunday since it started about 2 months ago. Is there a more un-cordinated sports show anywhere in the country. Jacqui Hurley and Con Murphy present it. It is embarrasing, she hasn't got a clue about any sport and she keeps missing her cues and is constantly speaking over Con and he really isnt suited to co-presenting. It really is awful stuff. Yesterday was a quite day on the sporting front, how will they cope in the height of the championship? Bring back the old format with just one presenter.

But they are still as bad as ever. I was told iff there is a lot of soil disturbed around a house the flies will head for the atic spaces and lay their eggs there. Does anyone else have or had this problem If i got the house fumigated would they return again next year. We have a one year old in the house and its not ideal. I want rid of them!!!!

General discussion / The green Party!

Greens plot to reduce speed limits
Ministers want vehicles to slow down on motorways and national primary routesStephen O'Brien
A temporary reduction in the speed limit on motorways and other national roads will be discussed by a cabinet sub-committee this week, as the government seeks to reverse carbon-emission increases that are moving Ireland further away from meeting its Kyoto target.

Green party ministers want to bring the limits down from 120kph to 100kph (75mph to 60mph) on motorways and from 100kph to 80kph (60mph to 50 mph) on national primary routes in order to achieve short-term reductions in the country's carbon footprint.

The idea will be discussed at the cabinet sub-committee on climate change in advance of the publication of figures by the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) showing an increase of about 1% in Ireland's carbon emissions in 2007.

The programme for government commits the coalition to reducing carbon emissions by an average of 3% per annum over five years. The biggest reductions are expected closer towards 2012, the end of the government's scheduled five-year term.

The speed-cuts proposal, which has been confirmed by Dan Boyle, the Greens' chairman, could result in a clash with Fianna Fail as it is clearly encroaching on the political territory of Noel Dempsey, the transport minister.

Any decision on speed-limit changes would have to be endorsed by the full cabinet, but a formal proposal on a transport matter would normally be expected to come from Dempsey's department.

The transport sector, along with agriculture, is among the biggest contributors to Ireland's carbon footprint and one of the most difficult in which to achieve reductions in emissions without having an impact on economic productivity.

"Since going into government, we have been able to introduce a number of measures that will have a medium- and long-term effect in terms of our national carbon footprint," said Boyle.

"What we haven't been able to do yet is introduce some short-term measures that will deal with the problem here and now, and the type of measure that can do that is critically looking at our speed limits. It won't actually cost people anything and they will see their own fuel bills fall."

Maximum fuel efficiency on the open road is believed to be achieved in most cars by driving at about 90kph (56 mph). There would a lot of practical problems to address in reducing limits, however, including the need to change speed signs on a huge number of roads.

Spain's decision to cut its speed limits a month ago was prompted by the rising price of oil. It cut motorway speeds to 80kph and urban speed limits to 40kph.

Even the Germans have been considering making the cultural leap of imposing speed limits on their extensive autobahn network. A limit of 130kph has been imposed near Bremen and Angela Merkel's junior coalition partners, the Social Democrats, threatened at a party conference last year to impose a national 130kph limit to reduce annual carbon emissions by 2.5m tonnes.

Boyle said the extent of the speed reductions imposed in Spain could be unpopular with Irish motorists, but a 20kph reduction on motorways and national primary roads might be acceptable. "Given the scale of the credits we have to buy if we don't tackle the problem, it is something we should give serious consideration," he said.

Provisional EPA figures indicate that the 1% reduction in carbon emissions achieved in 2006 was reversed in 2007. Ireland's target under the Kyoto Protocol is to limit the increase in emission levels recorded in 1990 to no more than 13% by 2012. Between 2004 and 2005, Ireland's emissions increased from 23.5% to 26.5% above the 1990 figure, but then fell by one point to 25.5% in 2006.

The target set in the programme for government is to get back down to 19% above 1990 levels over the next five years, and then pay a fine in the form of carbon credits that are bought to bridge the gap to the 13% target.

The Green party also regards the introduction of a carbon levy — an extra tax on petrol, diesel, oil and coal — as vital to reducing carbon emissions but insists that tax reductions in other areas, particularly on labour, will offset the carbon tax and render it revenue-neutral to government.

The carbon levy is not due to be considered by government until after the Commission on Taxation reports in 2009, but the Greens are expected to push for some progress towards a carbon tax in December's budget.

Noel Brett, chief executive of the Road Safety Authority (RSA), said he would welcome a national debate on speed limits that examined the environmental and road safety benefits and looked at the economic and social impact of any change.

This was in yesterdays Sunday Times. Surley FF wont allow this to go ahead. Also i read yesterday the green party are looking for all home owners to apply for planning permission to put in patios around their houses, due to all the flooding in certain areas. The country's economy is in trouble and yet again the greens are obsessed with middle class silliness. Its not cars driving at 120KPH who are to blame for global warming or some lad who put down 6 meters of cobblelock at the back f his house who is to blame for all the flooding. The greens however allowed all those new advertising poles go up around the city, but i suppose its not that big a deal as most of them are in working class areas and cant be seen from the ivory towers of Sandymount village.....
