The Centre of Excellence is fucked.
It isn't half. I don't even think it has been granted full planning permission yet. Even if it did get built it would need security like the White House.

It used to do a pretty good quiz but it was tough going. Especially after a feed of Caffrey's!

Is that stuff still for sale?

I contacted Croke Park today as the Ulster council offices were closed for staff training, Croke Park communications office said that they were unaware of the incident.
In fairness to the lad I spoke to in Croke Park he seemed totally genuine in his disgust at what happened & said that he would pass on a message to Ulster council, who I will be contacting again tomorrow.
Another point is that Down county board have a fairly valuable piece of land in Newcastle which will be going on the market in the very near future & Tesco are rumored to be one of the front runners for this land, I would hope that unless Tesco come out with a full public apology regarding what happened in Antrim, they should be told by Down county board to go & get stuffed.
You must live in a bubble.

General discussion / Re: Sammy's alzheimer's 'jokes'

An official complaint has been lodged about Environment Minister Sammy Wilson after he used references to Alzheimer's to brand other politicians forgetful.
SDLP MLA Patsy McGlone said he had made a complaint to the Speaker at Stormont.
He said: "This is not a matter of being politically correct, it is more about common decency and common sense."
Mr Wilson had told a debate: "Anyone in the House who does not know that I am a councillor on Belfast City Council must be suffering from Alzheimer's disease."
The DUP member made the remark earlier this week after being asked by a rival Assembly member to declare his political role as a councillor.
In February, Mr Wilson made similar remarks during an exchange with Mr McGlone in the Assembly chamber, when the minister attacked his opponent over a letter sent to a local newspaper.
Mr Wilson said: "Perhaps Alzheimer's disease has set in. I will remind him of what is contained in the letter that he wrote to the newspaper..."

Sammy is an idiot and was on the radio digging a bigger hole for himself.

I think Patsy is going out of his way to be offended here. Having said that I wish Sammy would ride his motorbike off a pier.

Is the fact that he's from Rathcoole supposed to be significant? If you fought a guy from the Ardoyne, Bogside or Crossmaglen and you bumped into him and his mates you'd probably get the same treatment. They same would apply in 1998 and 2009.
It has all the significance in the world for me:
He was a Protestant from Rathcoole - who only ventured onto the Jordanstown campus looking to cause trouble with Catholics.
I was jumped by him and his mates for being a Catholic - not just because I bopped him for wrecking a kitchen and calling me a fenian.
The bogside and cross boys who ventured onto campus were only there to chase up a bit of skirt
The Ardoyne boys couldn't get black taxis to Jordanstown for a quid so they stayed clear too.

Can you read this from the top of your horse there Tony?
Nowhere in your original post did you give any context to the rest of the thread. You didn't mention you were wearing a gaa top or that the fella knew you were a "fenian". Maybe it should have read "I got jumped by a load of huns from the 'Coole one night because I was wearing a gaa top". That would have made more sense.

Dead Mans Shoes is a great show Arhie, have it on dvd myself... Paddy Considine is brilliant in it as is the fella who plays his brother, who starred recently as Johnny Quid in Rocknrolla...
Looks like someone logged into page 1 of this thread thinking it was the most recent page :) I'd never make that mistake!

I got into a fight in Jordanstown halls in 1998 with a guy from Rathcoole who was in hooding/ransacking kitchens- ran into him and a bunch of his friends about two weeks later at Woodys off license and was lucky to get away with my life
sounds like university and belfast has changed a bit for the better

I remember him being very popular circa 1994 when he released his Live at the Point Album.

I said to the missus last night before the tasks started that neither Ben or Philip would get the hammer and if Noorul or Howard were pulled into the boardroom they were goners. The past two or three weeks Sugar has singled out those who sit in the background and do nothing and he especially marked Noorul's card when he won the soap task as he was useless.

That desert island discs broadcast with Christy was a cracker. Im looking for it online here but it must have been deleted.
DID will not be available as a listen again as there are rights issues apparently. He picked Ave Maria as his first track. Already picked for the funeral lineup ;)

Tesco seem to be supportive of the gaa in the past, what has changed??

http://www.offalyexpress.ie/birr-news/Tesco-store-opens-in-Birr.4547655.jp

To celebrate their arrival to Birr, Tesco Ireland has sponsored the design, building and installation of a GAA Memorial Sculpture to commemorate the site of the first All-Ireland hurling final held in 1888. The sculpture will be displayed in the Memorial Gardens in Birr.

Juvenile club bag pack

Thanks to all of our members both adult and juvenile who participated in the bag pack last week in Tesco Ardkeen thanks to all of the parents who helped with bag packing and lifts on the day. On behalf of Roanmore GAA club we would like to thank especially the management and staff of Tesco Ardkeen for allowing us to fundraise in their store.

There is a difference between company policy and one manager reacting to bullying tactics from some bigot. The manager is probably some spineless idiot but I think people are getting carried away saying he should be sacked. The Antrim branch should either invite the club back or donate a hefty sum towards the club by way of recompense.

Considering how much United have dominated this game 1-0 will not be a great result, and with Arsenal well capable of nicking one themselves in the last 15 minutes this could yet turn into a terrible result.

The brother in law was tarred and feathered and had his hair dyed purple.

The other brother in law went into hiding for ages used to drive the car right up to the front door of the house and leave the car running whilst he unlocked the door of the house so he could make a quick getaway if anyone came round the corner of the house!

They eventually caught him coming out of the church from the wedding practice a couple of nights before the wedding, so they had to go easy on him!

Does anyone really expect anything less?

I am awaiting the arrival of the cavalry.................

To be honest, yes.

I thought these days we had passed this kind of behaviour to some extent. I am maybe not surprised that there were some complaints made but I am shocked at how Tesco's caved.

Maybe attitudes have not softened in Antrim as much as they may have in other parts.
Have attitudes really softened anywhere? We may be in the shiny new "post-conflict era" but I think behind the facade people still hold the same prejudices they did before St. Andrews or GFA.

State of Play with Crowe and Affleck is as good a thriller as i've seen lately
Maybe you can help unravel the storyline for the fox. He isn't as young as he once was.
