Quote from: imtommygunn on April 15, 2024, 09:14:09 AMI don't think IT band syndrome would cause swelling - it would cause you the pain right enough. Just to double check - what's the status of your shoes?

Strengthening would be more round your glute med so the band stuff MR says there would help.

Marathon is the June bank holiday weekend.  When I started out on my run yesterday, it did go through my head that my runners were done. Would this be part of the problem??

Depending on the shoe, 400 miles is plenty and then change, keep them for farting about but for benefit change them ..

June should (depending on actual injury) give ya plenty of time, 5 weeks of slow low mileage running while getting over the injury and few long runs beforehand!

Was planning on changing shoes this week as would have been on 350/400 miles on them, but yesterday was first time I noticed they felt different.  That's good to hear that (if it's this injury) that I can do some running on it. I was thinking maybe it's a 6 week rest from running, which would be a disaster for the marathon. Cheers men. See what physio says tomorrow night.

9 weeks into marathon training, slight niggle on outside of knee for about a week. Went for long run yesterday and it had to be cut short as knee became too sore and swelled up and very sore after it.  Quick google of symptoms would have me believe I have IT band syndrome, with a 6 week recovery time,  physio tomorrow night,  but just wondering does anyone have any experience of this and will it take long to shift it?

Quote from: Mourne Red on April 11, 2024, 09:40:18 PMKelleher has had a nightmare tonight

Mad singling out the keeper when those in front of him stunk the place out. Liverpool fans must realise tonight what it's like to be a Utd fan atm, the lack of effort from a good half dozen of them was shocking
Wouldn't say its mad given that his two errors had a big say in the outcome.Even if he's stronger for the third goal 2-0 seems alot easier to turnaround than 3-0.

There was a deflection on the last shot that probably made Kelleher spill it.

Anyone on the board suffer from Plantar fasciitis currently or in the past? I have been battling it for a few years, can be brutal in the morning after an evening run or training session the night before,I blame work boots 40 hours a week and a lot of years tramping about a gaa field.
Anyone see a specialist about it or get treatment? I did 4x£50 sessions a few years ago with a specialist that just held a small device that sent shockwaves into my heel for ten mins, didn't help at all and cost a fortune lol

Do you wear the heal gels in your boots?  I got a dose of it last year,  physio told me to get the heal gels and wear them all the time except when running. They definitely helped.

the u20 competition is turning into a farce

good appointment with Mickey Donnelly coming in, I am excited as a Down supporter for the coming year. We have the right men in our set ups and we have a lot to look forward to.
Lavo, Marty, Donnelly, Benny, Darren and Donal know what it takes o be a county player.

Describe how it is a good appointment? You must not venture further than those local cafes you get your misinformation from. Donnelly was with Tyrone club Ardboe for 3 seasons and couldn't even win one senior championship match. He cost the club a lot of money along with his in-house backroom team who were also getting paid, Ardboe relieved to get rid of them all. I wouldn't be getting too excited, he was at least the sixth man approached and took a lot of convincing.

Mickey got Ardboe to county final and were only beat by a penalty in last kick of the game, so at least when you are running the man down get your facts right.
A very good appointment for Down.

Was thinking of doing Cork marathon next year as it probably the only one that suits schedule wise. Anyone ever do it?

Legs are sore enough but I've been worse after Dublin so not complaining too much.  Been in the lottery for London for years and never got to run it, would be a nice destination one to do especially now it is moved to October and wouldn't be as hot.

The DJ's in the stadium and around the course were having the time of their lives, just dance music and techno from start to finish.

London is back to April from next year. First time ballot entry last year and got selected, I know one's trying for years and not a sniff of it. As for the heat, was in around 22 degrees this year. But a great course to run, literally lined the whole way from start to finish with people, some parts you had maybe 6/7 deep at the barriers for maybe a mile. Great experience. In the ballot for next year.

Anyone use vests or pouches for longer runs, if so any recommendations on which are the best? Thanks.

Smith v Fowler on Saturday night should be good fight, would expect Smith on points. Couple of other good fights on the undercard or it too.  Can't see Wilder troubling Fury. Fury by stoppage

Mayo a tad lucky to get a re-take for the last free

Great result, but how this has not been highlighted beggars belief, no way was he interfered with to merit a retake. Thought the ref was shocking. Still great to see Mayo being the team to stop Dublin. Its only right it was them.
As he was running up to take it, the ref ran towards him with hand up to stop him from taking it.
