Ah he's pure Rossie so. I was expecting something more exotic.

Rossfan

You clowneen Syf - you've ruined my next 5 wind up the rhus posts  ;D I was going to add we'd done a deal with Carlton to take 4 or 5 lads from them each season. Imagine the outrage that would have raised from the rhus and the Ollsther bies...

Mayo are getting awful cagey in January. Still rattled after Limerick.
You always have the gander up from now until June, Syf. Is it related to the rotation of the earth?

Just home lucky enough to win.

1. Rob Hennelly - Great save near the end saved our bacon.
2. Darren Mc Hugh - Will be satisfied with his debut, scored a good point and wasn't in any trouble defensively.
3. Ger Cafferkey - Looked very shaky early on, but settled and done ok before being replaced
4. Stephen Coen - Was in huge trouble when Comer moved in, lacks pace for Corner Back, played better when moved into Half Forward Line.
5. Chris Barrett - Very good, probably our second best player,
6. Kevin Keane - Physically Strong but pace is his issue.
7. Caolan Crowe  - Started Strong, Faded and then finished strong. Will be pleased enough.
8. Jason Gibbons - Cant seem to rediscover his form of last spring, distribution poor today
9. Alex Corduff - Big Man, but lacks mobility tried very hard.
10. Neil Douglas - Our Best player by a long way, good distributor and kicked a few nice points
11. Adam Gallagher - Good first five minutes and then disappeared. Expected More.
12.  Michael Conroy - Played way too deep, worked tirelessly but role doesn't suit him
13. Evan Regan - Might need firmer ground, overall disappointing but has ability
14. Jason Doherty - Didn't get into game, black card was deserved and might need a break
15. Mark Ronaldson - Mixed the good and bad, got the goal but some things just didn't click

Overall, Early season so cant be too hard on the lads, need to see them mixed in with more of the regulars to make a definitive judgement.

Ones in Bold are from last years panel. Ones in Blue are what we had as regular starters last year. Anybody who is getting excited about our prospects either negatively or positively needs a few sedatives. It's only January! I'll be saying pretty much the same up to April! Remember Derry last year?

Adam Gallagher was a big part of Mayo's panel for the first five or six games of 2014 until James decided it was hate the gingers year.

QuoteMICHAEL DUFFICY ANSWERS ROSCOMMON'S 'CLARION CALL'

MONDAY, JANUARY 05, 2015
By Ian Cooney

Over 30 years after Oliver Dufficy won an intermediate football championship medal with Tulsk, his son Michael has made his competitive debut for Roscommon.

There were a few eyebrows raised among Roscommon supporters when Dufficy entered Sunday's FBD League game against IT Sligo after 40 minutes. But he has been training with the Rossies since December, having left Australia last summer and returned to the birthplace of his father.

Oliver Dufficy was a highly regarded midfielder who won an intermediate championship medal with Tulsk in 1984. Tulsk beat St. Croan's in the final after a replay. Oliver also won U-14 and minor titles with his native club. His father Michael was one of the founding members of Tulsk Lord Edwards GAA Club in the early seventies.

But Oliver subsequently emigrated to Australia where he has lived in Melbourne for over 25 years and raised his family (three boys and one girl). His son Michael has lined out for Northern Blues who ply their trade in the Victorian Football League and are a reserve team for Carlton Football Club.

Roscommon senior football manager John Evans takes up the story: "I sent out a clarion call to other counties to see if there were any other Roscommon players out there. That call also went out to London, New York and Australia. Michael sent me a couple of DVDs of himself. He looked extraordinary. He's shown up to be wonderful in training. He's an absolute example to the lads."

Dufficy played in a couple of challenge matches before Sunday's FBD League encounter and was particularly impressive when he lined out at midfield against Offaly.

"He's either first or second in any of the disciplines we do. He has a great work ethic. It's great for our lads to see what other people do in the AFL. He has played semi-pro. He wanted to come and play for Roscommon. Fair play to him. The lads have embraced him and his ideas. He has left his family and work behind him in Australia, and he's throwing his lot in here to see how far he goes.

"He's forfeiting everything to come over here. But we're bucking the trend here in Roscommon. Instead of sending fellas away, fellas are coming back. I think that shows a lot about what we're doing in Roscommon. We're beginning to huddle together, build up a head of steam and hopefully we'll get the rewards," concluded Evans.

It's fair to say that Michael Dufficy's progress will be monitored with a fair degree of interest over the coming weeks. Who knows, his father Oliver could be visiting Roscommon more frequently in 2015.

Interesting to say the least. Sounds like serious commitment from Dufficy, didn't know he spent his whole life (I'm assuming) in Aus after all. Like that Evans is casting his net far and wide, he's really proven himself to be a damn good manager. Sure Michael's already got more game-time than Gavin..

Sounds like the lad came over to make a go of it. Fair play to him. Sounds like he s a decent player.
Best of luck to him. I hope it works out for him.

It's great to see a lad moving from Carlton to Roscommon.
You can take the man out of Ros but the Ros will never be taken out of the man or his children  :D

Indeed, but I was anticipating an O hAilpĂn type. Breed some of the rawness out of the pedigree.

Now if Johneen can get Peter Domican and Stephen Ormsby back home we can start modeling the bust of his head to hang in the new Hyde.

What are ye on about?

Domican was steady but hardly a reason to go robbing and melting down scrap metal.

Very little experienced cover in the FB line at all. If Seanie Mc, Carty or Collins are injured we're left with sticking in a natural HB or throwing in an 19-22 year old with no senior experience. Ronan Stack would have played there (he did against ITS) but he has mainly played a sweeper role for the county team. Everyone in the county would be happy to see Domican return. He was playing the best football of his young life in Brigids' AI winning year but was out in Dubai with his job before the championship rolled around. Given he's been out of football totally it would take time for him to be ready to feature again too.

Rossfan

Domican last played real Co football in 2011 (2012  was a non year ) while Ormsby is the same or was it 2010?
It would take them 2 years to get to the pace of inter Co again by which time they'd be 29.Both were decent defenders but no supermen. They looked very good compared to the rest of our poor enough defenders.
