United missed out on CL last year on goal difference, finishing 5th.
Goal difference and just 66 points is all that Manchester City needed to finish 4th last season. Manchester United are currently on 65 points with two games to play and can't reach the top four anymore which suggests the average Premier league has improved this season.

Howso?
Surely this means the gap between the best and the rest has gotten bigger rather than the average PL improved>

Would Klopp have done any better if he was in charge if Utd this season?
No Klopp is shit. Bottles it in finals.

Klopp bottles it? How so? Does he change his approach significantly, or what? I'm not sure bottling is the right term to be honest.

I agree, bottling it is not an accurate term.

Klopp just isn't a very good manager. He should be replaced.

A general improvement in a lot of sides. The best and rest debate I'm not so sure as the best last year was Leicester and Chelsea were part of the rest. Tottenham have probably been the most consistent team over the last two seasons however next season without games in White Hart lane they will likely suffer.

Nothing to choose between United, City, Liverpool & Arsenal.

I don't think there's much between Chelsea & Spurs either but the lack of European football has given Chelsea an edge although they do have a better bench but Spurs probably have the better starting 11. Just look at how many Chelsea players have made 30 league appearances in comparison to everyone else, no European football is a huge difference to a very good set of players. Chelsea in fairness have had a better injury record than most teams in recent years which should be lauded.

I'd agree that klopp is a better manager. If you'd klopp managing that united squad which is very f**king expensive I'd expect them to be comfortably home and hosed by this stage, keeping up with spurs.

Give Maureen the Liverpool squad and I'd say they'd be playing f**king muck. If he can't be successful with pogba, ibrahimovic, de gea, jones, smalling then what the f**k would he get out of Milner, lovren, mignolet, Lucas, origi and so forth.

This is one of the most clueless posts I've ever read on here which is saying something. The highlight being the insinuation that Smalling and Jones are good footballers lol.

Go back to ridiculing the hillsborough tragedy. Wum.

Trileacman still hasn't been forthcoming with his retraction and apology. Disappointing. Perhaps he realised he had wrongly accused me and has been too embarrassed to show his face again.

"Lack of European football" - such bull. United have been playing poor sides in the Europa league that they (should) have handled easily. This is Manchester United and remember - he let 3 first team players go since January. It's bullshit.

Also - Mourinho failed to win a CL with Chelsea and Real Madrid. His two triumphs were with underdog outfits largely due to good defending, tactics and workrate. And probably complacency of their opponents. He was sacked by Abramovich for lack of style the first time and lost the dressing room (and a lot of cash) due to his ridiculous and scandalous  carry on with the Doctor last season.

Heroic draw tonight to match LVG's points total of last season with a game to spare. Difference in the league this season is (a) Leicester have reverted to the norm and the top sides mostly got extra points there and (b) Chelsea players have a manager they respect and work for and (c) Liverpool had no European games and they have a thin squad as the African Nations cup proved.

United have not improved at all. Ibrahimovic' goals papered over a lot of cracks.

Cunny Funt

'This is Manchester United' what does that actually mean? what was considered as poor teams have knocked better Manchester United teams out of Europe in the past and before this season United never reached a Europa/Uefa cup semi final never mind a final.

Schweinsteiger,Depay,Schneiderlin was three players that made little or no impact under LVG would keeping them at the club have made any difference? Losing Shaw,Young,Ibrahimović,Rojo etc to injury mattered much more than selling subs that this manager didn't trust in doing a decent job for the team.

Megaman

How did this great Spurs team get on in the Europa league?

No European football makes a massive difference, particularly when your losing players through injury.

Im not a massive fan or JM, but i think he will turn Utd around, Obviously this summer signings and next season will be very important for him, but firstly he must win the europa league.

You don't like him thats very clear but you're downplaying his achievements far too much, winning a European Cup with Porto is a phenomenal achievement and he backed it up winning another with Inter beating the great Barca team along the way. He was very unlucky not to win one with Chelsea too. Fergie only won 2 if you want to look at it that way and he had great teams for 20 years.

Its only in the last month the football has been poor to watch, prior to that I'd looked forward to games all season and that didn't happen at all last season. If we have a season like this next season then he deserves to be criticised but the way he's getting hammered in the media is way over the top.

Games disrupt preparation and when you've inherited a squad where only 4 players are Mourinho's that makes the task even more difficult. He will find it easier to deal with next season once he's got more of his players in.

Oh yeah the old "he doesent have his own players", what manager does when he takes over ? You are always going to be inheriting players, some you want and some you don't. Surely if a manager is a "great" he can work with what he has and maximise the players at his disposal

Depends on what he's inheriting, you do realise United have been woeful in the league in the 3 years prior to Mourinho arriving? If he wins next Wednesday 2 trophies in his first year represents a good return for his first season.

He lost 2 semi finals one on pens and one on to a dodgy goal and in his other season he lost out to Barca who went on to win it.

DuffleKing

Simeone's results at AM with the competition they face and their budget are phenomenal. For me it makes him the most effective manager in Europe over the last five years. However, don't be under be under any illusions about the football he plays - it's turgid sh*t based on a water tight defence and counter attacking efficiency.

Not unlucky. Just not good enough.
His excuse making is infectious  ;D
