the comments from lambert that villa could do without the fa cup surely didn't help. I know premiership survival is the be all and end all, but for a club the size of villa for the manager to sound like he didn't care if they went through or not was bad. what did villa fans think?

reports on twitter that aiden mcgeady is set to sign on free transfer and with heitinga set to sign for west ham it looks like Martinez is looking to get any business done early. hopefully we can get a couple more in and end the season strongly. if mcgeady signs that'll be 4 irish internationals in the squad and another (shane duffy) out on loan.

hoping to start 2014 with a wee win. going for 3 draws between palace/Norwich, stoke/everton and west brom/Newcastle. also have a feeling that Fulham and sunderland might sneak wins today.

some of the 'bigger names' on the down squad not included in the McKenna cup panel. no benny, poly, ambrose, mcveigh, Laverty or mckernan. surprised to see eoin mccartan still there. hopefully the 3 McKenna cup games can be used to unearth a couple of new players ready to compete for a starting place come league time.

Sinn Fein councillors in a drunken brawl on their Xmas do in Belfast City Hall, wrecked the bogs, causing two grand of damage. They must have fell out over how the grant money was getting carved up this year  ;D

More lies, prove it.Glad to see you believe everything the DUP tell you.

So they will be taking legal action against the paper that printed the story ?

I know Martin Og and you boys are a bit thick but the paper only printed that the DUP accused the Shinners of this so learn to read what is printed before talking nonsense.
so the official party line is 'we didn't wreck the bogs'  ;)

Martinez doing some stuff at Everton - he's been manager of the first half of the season for sure.
heard them saying on bbc at lunchtime that pardew was the manager of the season so far. for me Martinez, Brendan rogers and wenger would all be ahead of him with Roberto obviously at no.1.

don't think the wheels have come off for Liverpool at all, watched both their games over Christmas and thought they played well in both especially the city game. top4 is their for the taking and I would have Liverpool slight favourites to snatch the final spot. I feel city, Chelsea and arsenal will pull away from the rest of the pack and the last spot is there for whichever team goes on a run in the next few months.

very important win today with an another screamer from seamus coleman. it was vital we bounced back with a win after the disappointment against sunderland. hopefully Martinez can bring in a couple of fresh faces to bolster the squad to enable us to stay competitive at the top end of the table. good to end the year in the top 4, hopefully we can carry on the good form into the 2nd half of the season.

Triffic appointment by Tottenham. Tim Sherwood is a proper football man and the players will respect him, unlike with Villas Boas.

Who would you respect more? Somebody who never played the game at any level and got their knowledge of football from reading books, Zonal Marking and Jonathan Wilson articles, or a Premier League-winning captain?

Expect Tottenham to abandon the boring, dour, fearful, negative hoofball of the continental man and return to their traditional, exciting, attractive, attacking, technically focussed passing game under the Englishman.

Exactly how many great managers were great or even good players?

It's the people who have the aptitude (and passion) for managing that have had success. It has all of nothing to do with them playing at a high level or not. If what you said even contributed in the least to Spurs making him the semi-permanent manager they are a total and utter joke shop.

Pretty sure Wenger, Jose and Bob Paisley to name a few didn't set the world alight as players......
moyes, alex ferguson and Brendan Rodgers to name another few who didn't set the world alight as players but..

We are being linked with Shane Long and McGeady. That would be some amount of Irish players. Probably even a bigger contingent than we had back in the '50s. I'm a fan of Shane Long. Good, hard working striker, but he wouldn't be cheap. McGeady if we got on the cheap might work out. I think Martinez is getting the maximum out of all his players. Exciting times indeed. 6 points needed over the festive season.
hull had a bid of around 4/5 million for shane long accepted in the summer but the move fell through. mcgeady is out of contract in the summer so wouldnt cost a huge amount. im not the biggest mcgeady fan in the world but I believe he could just do a job for us as a back up for miralles/deufelou/pienaar. 6pts must be the aim over the next 2 games if we want to finish the year in the top4.
