When football was, as it should be, a hobby, dual players would have been more feasible. Now that even club teams are expected to live like Spartans and train like the SAS, it's no longer possible.
The pressure on playing fields of an extra code would also be too much for most clubs.

This time last year I was full of optimism, but after Kilcoo's shameful behaviour before the county final, really don't care anymore. The manager must bear some responsibility

Stop complaining; without TG4 club football would receive no coverage

Players dropping balls, kicking wides, misplacing passes, yet somehow it's the ref's fault

Delighted to see Paul Faloon refing the Ulster final. Well-deserved, tho there's alway a risk Kilcoo won't turn up in protest

Best goal ever? This Ciaran McCabe goal must be a contender; not only a brilliant move and a superb strike, but in context of what was a pulsating game it also essentially decided that year's Sam Maguire. Though only the first round in Ulster, Down weren't seriously challenged afterwards. That was a brilliant Derry team, and I've no doubt they would also have won Sam comfortably.
Context is everything

GAA Discussion / Best score ever?

Beggan's point from play; crucial time of the game, 65 yds out, cleared the bar by yds. I've never seen a sweeter strike.
Don't think there was any breeze behind him.

Quote from: imtommygunn on November 12, 2023, 08:08:54 PMI'm surprised the mark is not used like this a lot more- especially with boys who can kick from range.

It's not used more often like this as most teams don't have boys who can kick from range.

Long range? You only have to kick it 20 meters I think, if you can't kick a ball 20 meters you're fuvked

He means from the mark position, like Hughes today. A lot of players can't make that shot after the mark

Yeah that's what I mean.

The mark that Beggan set up with a 15m kick to the D is the one that any footballer should fancy taking on.

I reckon 90% of club players would go backwards or sideways from where Hughes kicked his. Most of us don't have 40m kicks in us, let alone under pressure.
Beggan hit a score from play today from just inside kilcoo's half. He just stroked it - didnt try to burst the ball. It made it over the bar with about 5 yards to spare. Don't know how he does it
Amazing score, and at a crucial time
