Minor Shield Final  (4th v 5th in the table) was played tonight in Dr Hyde Park

Roscommon 4-14 Leitrim 1-9

The Connacht final Mayo v Galway on Monday at 7:30pm in MacHale Park. The winner will play Kildare in the quarter final and Dublin for the runner up and those matches are due to be played next Saturday which doesn't give a lot of time to prepare against well rested Leinster opposition.

That is horrendous scheduling. Why would the Connacht Council create such a disadvantage?

God only knows. They could have played it as a curtainraiser to yesterday's game seeing as it's down for MacHale Park anyway.
Inaugural Football Championship Prediction Winner.

That would have made a lot of sense but the start time means it could be a TG4 thing imo.

Half time in Castlebar. Mayo 0-7 Galway 0-3. The young tribesmen have to work much harder for their scores. Niall Hurley standing out for Mayo.

Very comfortable win for Mayo. FT Mayo 0-13 Galway 0-7
Is the ref going to finally blow his whistle?... No, he's going to blow his nose

GaillimhIarthair

Thoroughly deserved win for Mayo.  Solid enough game plan and execute it very well.  It's been a disappointing  campaign to date for our lads.

That Mayo side looked bigger and more athletic  then Galway, they'll be tough to beat. The Mayo fullback and Hurley were excellent, Galway hung on in there in fairness when it looked like they could be hammered.

Their fist passing seemed to let them down. Some very wayward fist passing.

Both championships starting in April. U20 straight knock out and U17 group format both should be the latter IMO.

U20 Connacht Championship

Semi Final     Tuesday 4th April

Galway v Leitrim  - Tuam Stadium 6:30pm

Preliminary Round - Wednesday 5th April

Roscommon  v Sligo  - Hyde Park 6:30pm

Semi Final. Wednesday 12th April

Sligo/Roscommon  v  Mayo   - MacHale Park/Dr Hyde Park

Final:  Wednesday 19th April

All Ireland SF      6th/7th May

All Ireland Final  13th/14th May

Not whole lot between Galway,Mayo,Roscommon and Sligo but the draw and odd scheduling will have Galway strong favourites to win this Connacht championship.

Roscommon v Mayo
Sligo v Galway

Round 2  Friday 21st April

Leitrim v Sligo
Galway v Roscommon

Roscommon v Leitrim

Round 4  Friday 5th May

All Ireland Qr Finals:  10th June

All Ireland S/F             24th June

All Ireland Final          8th /9th July

Mayo the defending Connacht champions and Galway the defending All Ireland champions. Will be a surprise if it's not a Galway v Mayo Connacht final

A bit silly having the 1st u20 semi the day before the prelim!
Galway (likely) having 15 days between games while if winner of Ros/Sligo * make Final its 3 knock out games in 15 days.

* Ros and Sligo played in 2020 and 21 Minor Finals.

Agree with Cunny..u 20 should have same format as Minor.
It's classed as a development grade so should be about giving each team games.

It's like a Galway man scheduled those U20 fixtures

Common sense was to have both semi finals on the same week. Final probably should be pushed back to April 26th

The GAA has always been one of the most unfair sports in the world but that scheduling in Galways favour is openly giving them an advantage. Why don't the other counties ever say no and hold the fixture scheduler to account and as you say have Galway Leitrim be on the next week?

Galway v Leitrim U20 Connacht semi final in Tuam just started

https://www.youtube.com/live/8WgJSpU_twA?feature=share

HT Galway 0-6 Leitrim 0-2.

FT Galway 2-9 Leitrim 0-6.  Competitive display by the big underdogs Leitrim as after 50 minutes played it was 0-7 to 0-6 the 2nd Galway goal with the last kick of the game was harsh on the effort Leitrim put in

An Fhairche Abu

Rarely has a FT scoreline been less reflective of a match, I thought Galway's profligacy in the 1st half was going to come back to bite them badly when Leitrim hit two on the bounce to get within a point but Leitrim just couldn't get the leveller when that momentum was with them. Galway managed to get a couple of important points to get back on track and then a goal killed it.
Leitrim made a mockery of the betting odds for large stretches, it's a misleading final scoreline.

GalwayBayBoy

Only caught the first half but Galway probably should have been 8 points up rather than 4 at HT. Missed some easy chances. Actually the points they did score were crackers but they somehow missed the easier ones. Typical fare on a wet breezy evening in Tuam.

Certainly was and it reminded me of the 2020 Minor championship match between Galway and Leitrim when Galway scored 2 goals in the final quarter for a flattering 11 point winning margin.   Daniel O'Flaherty was 2020 minor, not allowed to play for the U20s by the looks of it as he's on the senior panel.
