Huge loss. Don't think people realised what he contributed. Could light up a game in a flash. That pass, without hardly looking, to Dazzler for the goal in the All Ireland final was unreal. Most players would have kicked the ball over the bar...

An Watcher

It was as if he saved his best for the biggest game of the year

An Watcher

I'm guessing Dooher is staying for another year otherwise we'd have heard by now?

GaaGPT

If Dooher/Logan stay we at least need a revamp of background team

An Watcher

If they stay, the next few years are written off unfortunately.  As are the final years of the likes of mattie donnellys career if he continues

And Hampsey, Meyler, McGeary, Burns who are all in their 30s in 2025.
Big issue with Dooher and Logan staying is that they won't recall players who dropped off the panel. So we are in a situation that call ups are going to be limited to the recent Under 20s - likes of Callum Daly, Gavin Potter, Ruairi McCullagh, Ben Hughes - and boys who are doing well at club level who haven't been involved before - Danny Fullerton, Neil Kilpatrick being the only obvious ones of the top of my head going by league form so far - and then the likes of Paul Donaghy, Peter Teague, Rory Brennan etc. not getting the called up again due to leaving the panel previously.
What other top county is operating without their top players not being involved in the county set up. And don't start with the Tyrone club league excuse - majority of players from the top clubs are nowhere near worried about relegation. The big issue is the county set up, training, tactics and team selections.

Reminds me of the 'rule' Irish rugby had on lads playing outside Ireland, until the rule was conveniently forgotten to accommodate Jonny Sexton. The non-return rule wouldn't apply to the top 7-8 lads, Canavans Harte Hampsey Donnelly Morgan McCurry and maybe a few others if they stepped out for a time. In the end the mgmt have cut their nose off to spite their face, arguably the CB too if they keep the current management against this backdrop. Inventing rules to cut ties with some of the best players in the county and to try and impose a sort of punitive control isn't likely to harbour the kind of togetherness needed to push on, it has more than likely backfired already and diminished the teams chance of success

Lowering the bar for another 2-3 years under a 'transition' objective really sells short the mature and fully seasoned players entering their last 2-3 years who after watching Kerry Dublin and Armagh lift the last 3 titles should have every right to expect another tilt in 2025 as they would see nothing to fear

No guarantee that a new management team brings the likes of Paul Donaghy / Rory Brennan and Mark Bradley back - from what I hear it was a lifestyle choice rather than any big fall outs, they were getting married, work, kids etc - it's a young man's game now - I'd say your more likely to see the players from the two u20s breaking in, as those players probably stepped away because they couldn't commit to 12 months round the calender committment, which a split season brings

NotedObserver

Would love the current management to turn it around but its hard to see following a long run of poor form. Interested to see who comes to the fore in the club championship. Losing a couple of the under 20s to aussie rules wont help either

Scoring Zone

Genuinely think with the current group there is an Ulster title in the next year or two if they tighten up a few things, they where 8-9 pts up against Cavan until a v bad black card for Hampsey, soft goal and the wheels came off and left with what felt like a loss, v Donegal some of the play and setup was v good, but bad turn overs from some usual suspects let Donegal get some momentum, but nearly never bulled the cow and the season fell too shite after Ulster. If the CB can convince O'Rourke to gamble with Tyrone then imo we would see a similar improvement as Donegal this year because since. the AI in 21, Derry, Donegal and Armagh have won titles and Down improving, so time to stand back up

ONeill

The players are 100% there. A mix of senior AI winners and underage AI winners. A manager's dream.
I wanna have my kicks before the whole shithouse goes up in flames.

This will sound counterintuitive, maybe a bit of a loaded question, but has there been any notable county players over the years who really acquitted themselves well (subjective term) at county level but didn't have the same impact at club, like they were better suited to playing at a higher level with better players?

Also you've got to consider speaking to Rory Brennan, Paul Donaghy, Mark Bradley, Peter Teague, Conor Cush, Michael McGleenan, Danny Fullerton, Oisin McCann, Eoin Corry, Steve Donaghy, Michael Conroy etc
Serious potential in the county at the moment

Hearing there will be clarity on the County Management situation very soon. Thursday evening maybe

square_ball

There were a few rumours doing the rounds over the last few days alright. Those couple of posts above outlining the players available shows 100% that we have the players to be doing far better than either the last 12 of the All Ireland or getting an absolute tanking in the quarter finals.
