N Morgan; M McKernan, P Hampsey, N Devlin; B Cullen, M Donnelly, M O'Neill; B Kennedy, C McShane; C Daly, R Canavan, N McCarron, D McCurry, D Canavan, S O'Donnell.

This is the team defeated by Roscommon, how many sure starters? Daly, O'Donnell and Niall Devlin will develope physically which will help (Devlin spoke personally how he would like to develop this). We need a bit of pace and direction and Shea OHare would be a welcome addition. Potter has a bit of size about him and would like to see him in the McKenna cup. Cassidy and McElohmn have class but not sure if they both will be available

In fairness it's not as if Harte had the squad in perfect harmony.

McCurry never showed anything like 2021 under Harte. There's many forwards during the latter Harte years who seemed to have great potential, who didn't kick on or who were on and off the panel.

I think it was generous, but somewhat understandable, to give D&L another year, but now they have to go. Tyrone should AT LEAST make a quarter final every year and making one semi-final every 3 years. The talent level of this Tyrone team is not way off any other team. It's frustrating to see a talented crop under performing so much.

It's criminal how little Tyrone got out of Mark Bradley, an unbelievable talent. McCurry was probably headed for similar without the managerial change.

I think Donaghy's relationship with Dooher wouldn't be tara by all accounts, but I'm not sure if he wants to play county football regardless given the lifestyle commitment that it involves. Some player you would like to see him in there.

Any truth O'Hare also inviting interest from down under or is that hear say? McElholm will be a blow could do without losing two.

The sooner Tyrone is rid of Dooher, the better. Brilliant footballer, but no manager.  It's the players who are responsible for results, ultimately; but it's the manager who is responsible for morale and for the manner of those results.  Any team can get beaten, but there's a big difference in being beaten after a team has tried its best, and the hopeless, dispirited, low-energy shows put up by Tyrone recently.  They're playing like a team that wants to get beat, apart form a handful of older players such as Mattie Donnelly and Niall Morgan.  Dooher has pets and favourites. And he has alienated most of the squad through sheer ignorance and losing the head with players.  Someone told me he shouts at players the way you'd shout at cows.  Similar to Roy Keane, who like Dooher was ultra-committed and a great player, but who rules by fear, sarcasm and bullying.  Good players do not necessarily become good managers, and that stuff doesn't take you very far in modern management.  As for the Brennans, well Lee is one of the most gifted attackers in the county, a man that other clubs in Tyrone fear much more than some of the boys on the current Tyrone panel, that's for sure, and Trillick, the current double county champions, know how to use him – you treat him like the Gooch, and don't waste time asking him to track back.  But Dooher had no time for him.  His brother Rory is an excellent half back, tough and reliable and a superb reader of a game, and he reportedly quit the panel out of loyalty to his brother.  If Dooher gets another year, I won't even be going to a Tyrone game, as it'll not be worth watching.  In particular, it's a shame to see the likes of D Canavan being wasted.  The team is managed badly, and trained badly (players reportedly are surprised by how little attacking or defensive coaching takes place), and their morale is on the floor, and it's only the pride and efforts of some individual players that are keeping any sort of a show on the road at the moment.  The county board hung onto Harte for 3 or 4 years past his sell-by date, and they're exhibiting a similar timidity and deference towards Dooher.

Couldn't agree more about Bradley, a serious operator, and another talent wasted by the county

Not sure what way you shout at cows! but that is the GAA Board line of the day 👏 :D

Quote from: imtommygunn on August 02, 2024, 08:58:52 AMDifference is Geezer has no dropouts but since 2021 it feels like, from the outside looking in, Tyrone have a lot of dropouts. (e.g. Brennans, Ronan O'Neill, Mark Bradley, Paul Donaghy etc)

I think that has been the difference between mcgeeney and dooher/logan. Many Armagh people were calling for mcgeeney to get the boot last year but the Armagh players apparently wanted him to stay as they loved working with him. With dooher and Logan It doesn't look like the players enjoy playing under them (the amount of players leaving the squad backs that up). We need a manager that the players want to go war with just like the Armagh lads with mcGeeney.

Quote from: Duine Inteacht Eile on August 02, 2024, 08:52:45 AMWhat's the story with the Brennans from Trillick?

Rory Brennan should be one of the first names on Tyrone's team sheet. He's was harshly treated by Dooher/Logan. He was dropped from the 26 for the all Ireland final along with Ronan O'neill for the two Monroe's who hadn't kicked a ball for Tyrone the whole year. Although rumour has it the county chairman at the time had a say in that. Lee Brennan needs to be there as well along with Donaghy.

You could pick a 15 from the players that have left the squad since 2021 that could arguably be better than that team. I will give it a go,
1.L Quinn 2, C Quinn  3 P Teague 4 R Brennan 5 L Rafferty 6 J Monroe 7 T McCann 8 p McNulty 9 R Donnelly 10 N Sludden 11 R O'Neill 12 D Mulgrew 13 M Bradley 14 L Brennan 15 p Donaghy

I might be missing some obvious ones as well, that is just one I've done in a few mins.

Jody O'Neill, Tyrone legend, passed away this evening. RIP.

ONeill

The main man. Not many 19-year-olds captain their county in an AI Semi.
I wanna have my kicks before the whole shithouse goes up in flames.

What I would say about Dooher is football has changed alot since the early 2000's when he was at his peak. The old tried and tested formula's from back then will not work or wash with the current players.
I know in Amragh's case they brought Donaghy in strictly for attacking coaching, and Gilligan in for transitional play. Armaghs background team is immense and has armagh playing the way they want to play and the most effective way
