General discussion / Re: Hamas launch attack on Israel

Quote from: Hound on November 27, 2023, 11:19:45 AMHe had one with a military strategist, which was pretty much ignoring right/wrong, but discussing tactics, etc. One interesting assertion he made was that the cell system used (i.e. an agreed overall objective but individual cells have the authority to go about things pretty much anyway they decide, and no interaction between cells, etc). Apparently the first recorded use in military history of the cell system was by Michael Collins.

Didn't the IRB use a cell system in the 19th century?

Maybe they done it so people can try walking a day in their shoes? Deep thinkers

Leaving your own shoes behind with DNA on them is the opposite of deep thinking.

Doubt this will rise to the level of DNA testing.

Post Mortem on NF. It's a Scandinavian oddball comedy with a reluctant vampire. (Think "Martin" with a Scandinavian sense of humour)

I'm 4 episodes in and enjoying it a lot.

Quote from: weareros on November 22, 2023, 09:38:58 PMDo Irish people really make good soccer players. We rarely produce a player at international level standard that can leave a player dead with skill. Liam Brady and Damien Duff are the only two that come to mind, and Georgie Best who was on another level. A Roy Keane was a great player but very limited skill wise. When it comes to nimbleness and skill, as a race we are great at the fiddle, tin whistle, bodhrán, Uileann pipe, guitar, boxing, plastering and the pen. We seem to have been overly blessed with movement in the elbow, fists and fingers, but useless with the feet. Even Irish dancers look very stiff compared to the Latins and the few lads who venture out onto the floorboards and get too ambitious are in danger of tripping over themselves. Our best chance is immigrants adding to our gene pool. We are seeing that in Athletics and the beginnings of that in soccer. There's hope yet.

This is a very, very strange post.

OK, I could see a situation where the fine increases.  Can't see it for points deduction though.

I think  Spurs were docked 12 points one season in the 90s, only to have it overturned on appeal.  Something similar may happen here.

Quote from: Jell 0 Biafra on November 18, 2023, 06:21:28 PMWhy would that mean it would increase? What's a points deduction this season to last season's relegated clubs?

Because with other clubs set to sue and reopen case the punishment may increase.

Even if the case was reopened, how would an increased point deduction help these other clubs?  Even if they were able to show a sporting advantage had accrued to Everton, that would have been in previous seasons. Docking them more points this season doesn't help with that.

No way this sticks on appeal.  What they'd have to do to City and Chelsea...

GAA Discussion / Re: Best score ever?

From a Dub perspective:

Best goal against: Mugsy
Best point against: Fitzgerald

Best Goal For:  Kevin Mc, 2011 (honorable mention to Eoin Murchan and Eoin O' Gara (2013, assuming it crossed the line!))

Best Point for: Cluxton (honorable mention, Kevin Nolan, just a few minutes before. Also Alan Brogan's in 2013 vs. Kerry. Nowhere near the best point ever, but enjoyed to see him toy with the Kerry defense near the end of his career).

Mark Regev, Netanyahu spokesman on TV denying Israel have killed any children.  If that doesn't get people to stop believing anything this regime says, I don't know what will.

Quote from: J70 on November 17, 2023, 12:42:40 PMIf it does stick, Everton should still be fine given the teams at the bottom. It's probably a good season to get a points deduction!
If the charges are related to last season though would Leicester City not have a good case against them seeing as they were relegated just below them.

And the year Leicester were promoted to the PL, there were various accusations made about their own irregular finances.
