Quote from: Rossfan on Today at 12:01:35 PMSeaf, you do realise a GAA pitch is much bigger than those of soccerball and ruggerball?

This is true but surely in this day and age we can have retractable seating that gets removed for GAA?
There should have been one stadium but sectarianism took over and we hadn't the political leaders to combat it.

Quote from: seafoid on Today at 08:32:45 AMThe Euros are a bit of a distraction to cover up the delays I think. Ireland is strange in that the 3 main sports all have to build their own infrastructure.  One reason is because all the power is centralised. There is also the history of non cooperation between sports and the ban.  In other countries like France the city builds the infrastructure and different teams use it . If this was in Cork or Belfast  for example there would be one 50,000 stadium built by the city and used by hurling, football, rugby and soccer. This model is much better. It would work very well in Belfast. The city would get concert profits to support other projects. In Ireland the GAA builds its own stadia. Páirc Uí Chaoimh does not get enough matches... It is the problem child of Irish stadia .

It happens in Uk, it happens in Italy, It happens in USA. It happens in loads of countries the world over. The idea that it's an Irish problem is nonsense.

Are those Italian stadiums not owned by the city councils? hence the ground sharing - albeit AC Milan looking to move from San Siro. Pretty sure Stade de France is city owned too hence useable for range of sports from rugby to moto cross etc.

Yeah and they both want out. Juventus redeveloped the Sadio delle Alpi and Torino moved to the Olympic stadium.
I agree that we do have far too many stadia and many could be doubled up, but it happens all over the world. It's not unique to here.

Quote from: toby47 on Today at 10:20:35 AMUnited will have to sell Onana this summer. He's just not up to it. Need to fix that problem ASAP

Sell? Utd sell? What is this selling idea you speak of? He'll run his big contract down.
Maguire got OGS the boot and Onana will do the same with EtH. Fans aren't stupid. They can see that he's not up to it. If EtH continues to pick him fans won't tolerate it and nor they should. He cost £50m, he was EtH man. The best managers are ruthless, going right back to Fergie with Jim Leighton, Pep with Joe Hart, Flopp with Karius, Arteta with Ramsdale. EtH needs to get shot or he needs to turn his performances around.... and soon.

Onana not good enough at this level. Very weak.
Fernandes gave away two stupid frees. Frustrating player. His reaction also child like. Fed up with him if I'm honest.

Quote from: quit yo jibbajabba on November 28, 2023, 06:08:07 PMThink one of the big differences which gets ignored is the pension. Excellent pension at end of it by they sure pay for it while working. Not uncommon to see a deduction of 4/500 pm taken out. Compare this to a pension of eg tesco/tyre fitter.

Just one argument but I know what yous are saying

Yeah and what they pay in their employer (taxpayer) is paying in 4/5 times that

So break it down for me, a pension for a teacher who retires at 65 gets what (on average) per month after tax?

Employee putting in anywhere from 7.4% to 12%
Employer putting in a whopping 17.7%

Normal pension is 8% total (4% employee, 3% employer 1% Gov)

Nice work if you can get it.

Plus they're Defined Benefit which are impossible to get in the private sector. A guaranteed income for life which increases with inflation each year - "PI is always applied on the first Monday falling on or after 6 April. PI this year will be 10.1%, which will be applied from 6 April 2023."

Nice wee 10% boost to their pensions this year!

We (the taxpayer) should really consider cutting their pay.

The Toon definitely robbed there

Ah well. Sometimes they go against you and sometimes you go to the local embassy to get your passport and marriage documents stamped and you get murdered and cut up. Evens itself out over the season.

If Celtic want to play in the UCL then they need to leave the Scottish Farmers League. That league is going nowhere. It's no better than NI or ROI leagues. Saying it is, is living in denial. Teams look at Celtic the same way they international teams look at San Marino and Gibraltar. Cannon fodder.

Subjected myself to the highlights of the Rangers V Aberdeen game. It was a clear penalty. Pulled his shirt.

Even when Celtic slip up, Rangers can't capitalise. They missed a lot of chances. They are so far behind Celtic that it renders the league utterly pointless.

Surprisingly a lot of empty seats, you'd have thought with Rangers in town it would've been a sell out. Worrying for that league and it's long term sustainability.
