Quote from: Wildweasel74 on October 01, 2024, 12:47:04 AMI go for Karl Lacey or Michael Murphy, even V Corey proved himself capable, there very limited options left out there, and they should had a man ready to go if they intended to get rid of Harte early doors. If they were thinking about Gallagher then, should just went with him. I get the feeling it be a In County appointment  at this late stage.

CB didn't get rid of Harte, he left of his on accord

Be interesting to see if Lacy / Corey are available are keen?

thats correct because he found out certain players were trying to get Gallagher back in.

I had thought mickey was told to go before they gave him the boot. Very unlike mickey to walk away voluntarily

It sure is

Mickey was toast in Derry the moment Conor Glass stood arms raised open, questioning his substitution of club mate Emmet Bradley. There was no way back from that, what with the 'outside noise' shall we say.

Mickey had huge support in Tyrone so could do as he liked, but he was always skating on thin ice in Derry. In fact, if he was honest I'd say he never even put his stamp on the team at all. They were still playing to RGs template. Derry were too close to Sam to t**ker with the set up. He seemed to just roll with it.

Completely agree, was delighted when I heard the news. Malachy quietly going about his business very effectively.
Both Criko and McCullagh have impressive  credentials as coaches having won a Tyrone SFC and an all Ireland intermediate title between them as managers.

Absolutely desperate for an All Ireland.

lol, Tyrone have just broken the bank to bring in an outside manager against all their supposed principles and you call Derry desperate for an AI. After a few poor seasons MOR will be under some pressure to deliver. With a rich supply of u20 talent surely he couldn't fail.

I'd rather be relegated to Division Four like younse boys were not so long ago... Than be lead by RG and win a Sam.
Desperate desperate stuff

Oki doki Mr D Ose, whatever you say

Seems like a few good people in Derry agree with me. Which has to be welcomed.

Quote from: easty88 on September 12, 2024, 07:39:34 PMWho do we think will join Malachy and his management team? What all do we need and possible candidates to fill the roles? Exciting year ahead for us?
This is something I dont really understand. What extra coaches are required. If Malachy has been happy enough with Porter and Mc Bride all these years, why would he feel the need to add to that.
I know that Armagh have 5 or 6 coaches involved but I dont think that is a necessity for success

S&C coach
head Physio

Both essential specialist roles. I know Porter has a track record of strength and conditioning but these days he's more of a coach on the training ground, tactical stuff. He takes the lead in the sessions, Malachy interjects and generally conducts business on the sidelines. One to one stuff. Our boys didn't look overly fit last season, I don't remember a strong finish in any game

Head Physio is a critical position as well, particularly with regards to injury prevention. I was speaking to a guy on the Derry panel last year and he was lamenting Peter Hughes departure, for this reason

Jesus lads there isn't a county in Ireland wouldn't be excited to have Conor McKenna

On a different note

Feels like an awful long time since we've been in Croke Park. Cannot wait to get back there next summer and cheer on the red hands

Yeah no chance Peter Donnelly returns. He's on too good a gig just now. And fair play to him.

R Brennan outstanding again today, best defender in the county by some distance.  O'Rourke first phonecall.

Quote from: square_ball on August 31, 2024, 08:26:06 AMThe thing with O'Rourke is it's a total clean slate for everyone. No favourites from working with players at u20. Everyone starts from zero and you're in the team on merit.

I wouldn't be against Paul Devlin getting it but if O'Rourke is available I think we need to go out and get him.

Good post. Initially I wanted PD in, but as time goes on, can't escape the fact that MOR is the better fit at this time

Getting just 2 or 3 of the walkaway players back would make a significant increase to our chances of success

We had something like 14 championship debutantes this year. At least half of them should be better players next year

Seldom was there a clear tactical plan last year, bar get it into Darragh or the Dazzler. There's opportunity for another gain tactics or game plan wise

Incremental increases can be hoped for regards team spirit, and strength and conditioning

2024 season we had horrible luck with injuries. Meyler never kicked a ball. Mattie, McShane and many many others had serious injuries to contend with. A bit of luck here would make a significant progressive impact

An exciting managerial appointment would go a long way to alleviating the apathy which developed amongst our support too

We really aren't that far away. Looking around the country, there's nothing to fear.
