Well now, I will confess I've had worse nights!!  ;D

That was absolutely exhilarating and for long, long stretches of that game, I thought we'd end up with nowt.

Huge win, which surely (hopefully) knocks Sunderland out of top two contention. Tough on the Black Cats, but no tougher than their equaliser was on us at the Stadium of Light.

Fair play to Farke. Thought he'd got the subs wrong, but they come up trumps. Both Striuk and Rothwell outstanding.

MOT!!

Leading soccer journalist, Patrick Barclay. Brilliant as a writer for many of the broadsheets and was very impressive on Sky Sports chatshows such as Hold The Back Page and the Sunday Supplement. Was always knowledgeable, articulate and came across as a decent, lovely man.

Rest In Peace.

The brilliant John Tudor, goalscoring forward of the early seventies. Made his name as Supermac's sidekick at Newcastle United.

R.I.P.

Quote from: SaffronSports on January 28, 2025, 09:47:06 AMBrutal match but I'm happy to have taken a point. Going away to a promotion rival a point is solid. Onus was on them as the home team and they never bothered us at all. Probably sums it up when I felt the most likely to score or create a goal was our right back, Bogle.

Bogle is playing well - offers a lot in support of the attack.

Last night's huge match between Burnley and ourselves turned out to be a damp squib, which is being kind. It was possibly in the running for the worst match I have ever seen. The first shot on target came from Dan James in the 89th minute. Burnley have a formidable defensive record and sat very deep and in all honesty Leeds did not really threaten a goal. It was desperate stuff. However, there was a sense that both managers were satisfied with a point, particularly given Sheffield United and Sunderland both dropping points this weekend.

For me though it underlined that there remain glaring issues for Leeds at numbers 9 and 10. Piroe has come in for a lot of flack for his performance, but I would still have him ahead of his replacement, Mateo Joseph, who again failed to make any impact in the time he played.

The coming weeks will see the pressure add, as we have Sheffield United away and Sunderland at home. Huge games.

Quote from: Mourne Rover on January 18, 2025, 02:00:15 PMSigning a striker at this time of year is risky, but failing to bring someone in would be asking for trouble.

Indeed, particularly where rivals are also strengthening.

The stakes are now very high, not just for Leeds, but for Farke himself. I can't believe that he will survive another failure to get promoted, and such failure would surely signal the end of his long held ambition to prove himself in the Premier League.

Quote from: SaffronSports on January 16, 2025, 09:55:40 PMMost people know who she is anyway but if she's publicly outed there's probably big issues with regard her mental health.

Yeah that's usually the way of it when someone gets caught out

You've seen nothing to date, in her behaviour, that would suggest mental health challenges?

I listened to that podcast yesterday, and I'll have to confess that whilst at times I was laughing out loud, the overriding emotion was incredulity.

Surely there have to be real mental health concerns there for this individual? I'd be genuinely worried as to the welfare of the person in question.

Quote from: SaffronSports on January 13, 2025, 01:17:03 PMI felt that Darlow flapped at a few crosses so wouldn't be overly confident in him either tbh.

Aye. I'm not sure he's the answer to our problems.

Quote from: SaffronSports on January 12, 2025, 06:05:21 PMHappy with that draw. Home to Millwall or Dagenham and Redbridge

A real opportunity to progress to the Fifth Round, although I'm not sure if that's a good thing, to be honest. A cursory look through the pages of this thread will see numerous references to the dangers of an extended cup run in the context of a hugely important League campaign.

Only seen fleeting moments from Saturday's match, but we seemed to make hard work of it. Darlow had a decent enough game, so all eyes will turn to the team announcement for next Sunday's game at home to Wednesday and in particular who is in nets.

Quote from: Mourne Rover on January 07, 2025, 07:54:12 PMA striker and a no 10 need to be on his list, and a keeper may also be required.

I've been beating this drum for a long time. We need a proven goal scorer and a number 10. However, the goalkeeper issue seems to have exploded out of nowhere and there can be little doubt - looking on various forums and social media - that a clamour for change between the posts has arisen after the Hull disaster. The ironic thing is that the strongest rumours I am hearing around transfers in seems to concern adding to the centre of the defence, with Omobamidele heavily linked for a loan move from Forest.

Quote from: Mourne Rover on January 07, 2025, 07:54:12 PMThe money is apparently there, and in a tight division, where the other contenders are already starting to invest, it will have to be spent soon.

This is the thing. For all our weaknesses, I still believe we have the strongest squad, but the overall situation remains fluid and competitors are already strengthening - have the Blades signed Brereton Diaz - which means that Farke's reluctance to do much business in the January window will come under severe scrutiny if we were to hit a run of poor form between now and Easter.

I've seen prices of Leeds being 1/16 to get promoted, which is far from where I see them. They are not filling me with confidence.

Quote from: Rufus T Firefly on January 03, 2025, 01:20:00 PMIf we have 8 / 9 / 10 Reserve Teams being put forward for the All County league, then why can there not be an All County Reserve League?
I've already made this point, it's a fairly basic principle and CE and Cross have demonstrated it: if clubs' 2nds teams are good enough to reach intermediate semifinals and compete at intermediate level, they should be allowed to and not perennially confined to a 10 team reserve league/championship on the basis that they're not a first team.

Who is to say that their presence in a Reserve League won't be the catalyst for improvement across Reserve football overall which in turn could lead to more Clubs putting in teams and possibly a two tier Reserve League in the future?
