Quote from: RedHand88 on April 20, 2024, 11:59:45 PMDerry were not serious All Ireland contenders ffs. They are at a level below Kerry/Dublin, same as Armagh/Mayo/Galway/Tyrone/Donegal.

A few facts:
They beat Clare and Cork to get to AISFs the last 2 years.
Kerry played sh1te against them last year and still bate them.
They won the league final against Dublin reserves and believed the hype.

I also really think the new structure hurts teams in Derrys position. 4(?) weeks of no championship football before potentially playing Dublin or Kerry.

My prediction: they'll get through the group by beating the guff but will go out at the quarter final stage to a bigger team. Questions will remain over Harte but he will get to stay and we will see the same next year, only a bit worse.

True though they were being mooted with Dublin and Kerry as top 3. That league 'win' (penalty shootout) was very overstated and hyped. Harte got left behind in managing a long time ago. Hadn't beat Dublin, Kerry or Mayo in the championship 2009-2020. I don't think that would
have happened to Rory Gallagher today.

Yeah something like that wouldn't happen with a Rory Gallagher managed team

That championship match was 2017 he'd brought them on a long way since that.. as for a league game irrelevant sure Tyrone got hammered in the league by Kerry in 2021 and took Sam up the road a few months later.
Mickey can't handle the big championship games... not in years...

Great man for the McKenna cups though! #champion #warratrophy

We are all old. With advanced age comes more illness. The population is aging. By 2037 1 in 12 people will be over 65.
Yeah we are all going to die at some stage no dodging that but I do not agree that we have to accept the largely self inflicted chronic diseases so many are inflicted with. None of
this helped by the scientifically baseless health messaging we have been duped with for the last 50 years.

I shouldn't but go on. Humour me.

Quote from: marty34 on April 20, 2024, 08:00:18 PMDonegal's day for sure. Were the better team on the evening.

But this day will soon be forgotten. Things move on. Derry will re-group and Donegal will move on. One game doesn't make a summer.

Derry will move on and are still a top team.

That also counts for the League Final. People on here were losing the run of themselves about a game Derry could not see out twice.

Who are these people? I didn't see anybody from Derry do that!

Did you not? Because I saw plenty!!

This is hilarious.

At least this nonsense of Derry being all ireland contenders can settle down for a while.

Why is it nonsense?

It's not nonsense with a Morgan type player. Lynch has been an accident waiting to happen.

Lol I regret asking the question now  ;D

In season 2021/22 it wasn't that as a win against Tottenham at home instead of a draw with three games to play would have won the league title for Liverpool.

You seem fairly simple minded but that season Liverpool lost two games and had 92 points, it still wasn't enough. That tells you all you need to know

Also got 97(!) in 18/19, which still wasn't enough to win the league. Which is almost mathematically impossible.

Quote from: NAG1 on April 19, 2024, 11:01:36 AMSay it quietly around the Reds on here, but if Klopp goes this season without winning the title will his tenure be deemed as an underachievement?

After all they have been the best team in the world since he took over  ;)

Granted they ran into a City team in their prime, but one Covid EPL title seems to be underwhelming.

Unpopular opinion I'm guessing.

1 league title
1 champions league
1 super cup
1 club world cup
2 league cups
1 fa cup

That's assuming we don't win the league this year, which admittedly is a big ask.
Compare that to the 9 years previous, or even the 9 years before that. He's done well.
Klopp will always be a legend. He gave us a ridiculous amount of moments that will never be forgotten. It is a shame that he came up against 115 charges FC in his tenure which made winning the league nigh on impossible and who knows, if they do throw the book at city in years to come, what he achieved may be more appreciated.

Quote from: HokeyPokey on April 18, 2024, 11:11:48 PMIt will be interesting to see if Mattie does play at 6. He could add real solidity there potentially if he is back to himself.

Really don't see how Matty starts at 6 unless as a sweeper and someone else picks up the marking job on a Cavan forward
I struggle to see how Matty starts at all to be honest having missed so much of the league

McKiernan has nailed 6 and will surely start there, its a dummy team, expect Aidan Clarke to start corner back

My prediction is Matty doesn't start and comes in off the bench for the second half or last 20mins depending on how its going, deployment also as required, could be middle third could be FF

I wish they would bring in a rule to stop teams announcing dummy teams. Should be a rule to only allow minimum changes. e.g. 2

Or what about just naming them the hour before throw in? Only reason they are done during the week is for the programmes.

A stopped clock is right twice in the day. He also said Liverpool would win the League!

They might yet. I fancy Chelsea to beat City this weekend in the cup and trigger a pep implosion. 2 points behind with 18 to play for. It's still on.
