GAA Discussion / Re: Tyrone 2010 model
November 05, 2009, 11:36:58 AM
Quotedooher is past it. that was there for all to see this year. his legs are gone and this was no clearer than when he was up against cork. there is no room for the likes of ageing players on teams these days, unless they offer height or pace - neither of which dooher has.

mcguigan is the same. the coolness on the ball he brings is becoming irrelevant: the game is too fast and there is less room for forwards like mcguigan to operate in. his cunning is soon snuffed out. see tyrone v cork semi-final

i think hughes' legs have gone also.

mulligan needs to get leaner/fitter.

mcginley isn't fast enough for mid-field these days. probably best operating around the 1/2 forward line.

Dooher is getting on but I think the fact that he was injured and missed 8 months was the reason why he wasn't on top form.  Hughes' legs have gone?  He is just after getting Ulster Player of the Year.  As for Mulligan he is in good shape and has been this year, and played well in the Championship in a different role.  The most laughable comment is the one on McGinley, has he lost his speed overnight?  The man is in his prime.

GAA Discussion / Re: GPA Football team of the year

Still don't see how Michael Shields got into any of the All Start or GPA teams based on the roastings he got this year.  McMahon of Tyrone would have been more deserving.  Lacey is a cert in any team this year as is Stephen O'Neill.

I don't think he Haye is overrated, he just hasn't had really big fights yet so until he has then judgement will be reserved.  He has the skills, but sometimes can employ the wrong tactics and rush in and get caught, because as mentioned his chin is suspect and if he is caught by the brick on the end of Valuev's arm then it will be lights out.  But if he plays it right and uses his speed and moves in and out and keeps scoring he will win.  He has a phenomenal knockout record and I would love to see him take on Vladimir Klitchsko if he wins.

Great weekend of boxing with McCloskey and Rogan both fighting.  I hope both win, especially Rogan as he should have won last time and the slabbering Sexton has been doing since is unbelievable - did he become amnesiac or something after the fight as I don't see how he can talk as much trash like he has whenever he was out on his feet and would have been out on his hole if Rogan hadn't been so naive.  If McCloskey wins it could set up a showdown with Khan, which would be exciting.

Is any of these fights on tv, or are they all pay per view?

I found it hard to believe that there was 2.9 million members in Ireland.

General discussion / Re: Top 3 threads on the GAA Board

I quite like taking a look at the Liverpool supporters thread, the United one and the Movie Recommendation one used to be good until Tony Baloney bombarded the thread with the events of his matinee experiences from Saturday afternoon trips to Lisburn Cinema.  The Rachel Riley thread isn't bad either.

I thought Nash wore a hemet with a guard, well he did the last time I watched him.  I never understood how anybody didn't at least wear a helmet without a guard, it doesn't affect vision or performance.

General discussion / Re: Man Utd: Berba finally delivers
November 02, 2009, 11:55:47 AM
Berbatov's touch is as good as anyones, some of the pieces of skill he displays at times is unbelievable but he is simply not clinical enough or does not seem to be in the right places at the right time - he is too deep too often, why doesn't he stay around the box and play like an out and out striker.  People give him a hard time and seem to forget how good a player he is because he isn't running around chasing lost causes all the time like Tevez.  As EC said, Hargreaves return cannot be overstated.  He is as good as there is at his position (well he was before injury) and if he returns and gets back to the top of his game he will be invaluable to United.  The like of him and Fletcher returning are big boosts but I agree Fergie needs to splash out on a creative midfielder and maybe a striker in January.  I have been saying this since the Champions League final and the two players that have been linked since the summer are the ones that I would love to see arrive.  Villa is the best striker in the world and Silva is the real deal.  I see Chelsea are linked with a bid for Villa, but are they not suspended from transfer dealings until the summer of 2011?

Didn't the Cork sub keeper wear a helmet and faceguard a year or two back.

QuoteApart from the fact it should have been a free out and a couple of backs from an under 10 team would have defended better?
You could pick threw nearly every goal in the list and criticise the defending, its easy to do that instead of laud the actual skill involved.

Mulligans is the best without a doubt.

There is no way any top 3 list could not include Tohill.
