Quote from: screenexile on November 14, 2023, 06:16:47 PMIt's getting that you have to save up for a night in a City now. Sure if you take the Mrs it's £10 a G&T or £15 for a cocktail. It's just not that worth it anymore!

Home is getting as bad too and the price isn't coming down anytime soon! The Govt seem happy enough for all the bars to disappear.
Cocktails are some racket.
More juice than alcohol. Only thing is the time it takes making them the bar person could pull a pile of pints. Word of warning, be careful if you're ever making cocktails at home, one minute you're drinking what tastes like fruit juice the next you are full drunk!

Use the measuring jiggers and you'll be fine, the problem with 'home' measurements will mean you'll end up hammered! Plus you'll lose the right combo of alcohol and mixer and the flavour or look of it will be shite!

Make the odd cocktail after the daughter got me bits and pieces required to make them for xmas!

I generally stick with two, a whiskey sour and an espresso martini, not to difficult to make but they'd be my go to drinks

Good taste, whisky sour or old fashioned for me when it comes to cocktails.

Does it matter what whiskey used for a whiskey sour really? Normally i just put  a few ice cubes in whiskey but I was gifted a bottle of Jack D and I wouldnt be a fan. Might be useful for the cocktails though.

A decent Bourbon, but yeah a JD can work

Some savings doing it at home. Was in the Merchant recently and it was 16.50  :-* .

Do like a whiskey sour or old fashioned but no fan of whiskey.

You'd want to be at a minimum alright with whiskey to enjoy an old fashioned that's made properly.

I must be minimum alright then as I like a strong Old Fashioned. Can't take the stuff straight, rocks or even with a bit of water in it. I blame my granny as we were given it for toothache as children.

I'll have a whisky sour when out, at home, with friends round for dinner I would finish up with some single malt stuff, neat, no water no ice!

But properly measured as it's the only drink that gets me in the morning, though probably more to do with the beers/wine combo at dinner ;D

Eldest son worked in a few places where he mixed cocktails. New Years Eve he took into the drinks cupboard....wasn't right for about a week!!!

People shouldn't be surprised when one company raises their prices and the others follow shortly after. 80% of the beers on tap in most pubs are made by two companies.

Diageo - Harp, Guinness, Smithwicks, Rockshore and Carlsberg (under licence).
Heineken - Heineken, Coors (under licence), Murphys, Beamish and Moretti.
Asahi - Peroni
C&C - Tennants (if you live in Ulster).

That's the ones available in my locals. We don't have tied houses like the UK but it might as well be.
