Exactly - the keyword there is interest. Especially football wise we need more interest from the younger generation. More interest will mean more numbers and more numbers would hopefully drive better standards etc. The Antrim cup etc is great to see.

Probably serves it's purpose then but I'm sure the poster probably means that it's not necessarily raising standards at the top end and that the bigger schools should be participating there but also look beyond it and at Ulster competitions which should increase levels.

Are refs not paid "expenses"? Bit of a grey area there?

Duine Inteacht Eile

No. They are paid money. They can put a pair of knickers on it and call it what they want but they are being paid.

And this has been a long time coming and a long time warning.

And I'm not suggesting that they do/don't deserve their money.

But the books need to somehow right themselves.

So are they paid as a self employed person then? A ref once told me it is regarded as expenses and non taxable. I've no idea if that's right or wrong but it's what a ref told me.

Duine Inteacht Eile

They are paid a set fee for refereeing a game. They aren't producing anything to say that they were out of pocket and are now claiming it back.

Again, before milltown loses his shit, I'm not suggesting they shouldn't get it but the process definitely needs tidied up.

Quote from: bannside on December 09, 2024, 05:18:20 PMWhy would you get rid of the gaelfast competitions? Surely any and all activity is to be encouraged?

Absolutely encourage the activity - I just wonder that the kids play juvenile games internally in Antrim for their clubs and then do the same in school. Being exposed to a variety of standards is important, with limited time for games is allocating a big chunk to intra Antrim games the way to go? 1st year competition ok, great way to get kids together. Higher years not soo much.

Not criticising the effort which is a lot to make these competitions happen just is it the right thing.
