Probably a big can of worms.

General discussion / Mary Lou McDonald biography
« on: October 10, 2022, 04:08:29 PM »
What is the story with this? It all sounds a bit strange. (Hard to see anything objective on it as it seems to be just digs at sf or Ross and then some at RTÉ thrown in.)

GAA Discussion / James Horan gone

Resigned a few hours ago.

General discussion / Boris Johnson

It would appear the wagons are circling.

Is he finished?

Sounds like PMQs could be entertaining today though I still can't bring myself to watch it as it will just be one lie after another.

General discussion / Joe Brolly has discussion with Jamie Bryson

Surely merits a thread of his own...

Be really interesting to see who is next. He did some job.

General discussion / Devolution
« on: July 09, 2019, 04:48:26 PM »
Things getting interesting in Westminster.

Abortion rights and gay marriage, if I read correctly, could get voted through by the end of the evening with the proviso that if or when stormont get back up and running whatever the outcome is can be overturned.

The snp who originally weren’t going to vote on it have given members a “pass” as it involved devolved matters which they normally don’t vote on.

If either of these get voted through, whether or not you agree with either, this would be a real boot in the balls for the dup.

Seems like Conor McGinn, formerly of here, the driving force behind it.

Hurling Discussion / Ulster hurling

Interesting article from an interview with micky "wing"

http://www.irishexaminer.com/breakingnews/sport/micky-mcculloughwill-we-allow-ulster-hurling-regress-to-the-point-its-extinct-885975.html

Pretty much confirming what a lot of us thought that a lot of people in positions where they are paid to give a shit don't give a shit about ulster hurling.

General discussion / Primark fire in belfast
« on: August 28, 2018, 10:03:10 PM »
Really sad to see this today. The damage done on the building is horrendous. I don't know what will happen for the poor employees.

Walked past the fire fighters near the odyssey this evening. They seemed to be running the hoses from there all the way up donegal quay to the fire. You had to feel for them looking at them as they must have put in some shift today.

GAA Discussion / Ulster club championships 5 year rule
« on: October 24, 2017, 09:35:05 PM »
Is it correct that in junior and intermediate there is a 5 year rule where you can't play in that championship game? Does this apply to football and hurling? (I had thought cookstown had competed twice within 5 years in the football at intermediate level?)

Seems odd, and not great, that this rule applies only in ulster.

General discussion / Paul Kimmage
« on: September 30, 2017, 10:59:59 AM »
I see kimmage has moved onto the gaa and seems to have the dubs as his latest crusade. Anyone listen to him and luke fitzgerald?

The guy at this stage just seems very demonised. His criticism of dubs seems to be cynicism in the closing stages of ai final more than anythiing. ( gaelic football is just a reasonably cynical game and while i would prefer to see dublin beat i don't see them as any more cynical than anyone else).

Has he went as far as to mention drugs?

General discussion / Sean Spicer
« on: April 11, 2017, 10:05:59 PM »
"You even have someone as despicable as hitler, who didn't sink to using chemical weapons".

You have to wonder where they get these guys. It would be laughable but for the prospect of a russia-us war.

General discussion / Fake news, media manipulation etc
« on: February 26, 2017, 11:23:05 AM »
https://www.theguardian.com/politics/2017/feb/26/robert-mercer-breitbart-war-on-media-steve-bannon-donald-trump-nigel-farage?CMP=twt_gu

Interesting article on the use of big data modelling for political propaganda in addition to how it can be used to impact on human psyche etc.

A bit nerdy in places mind but very interesting / eye opening.

The world has gone mad.

Why did they offer the odds in the first place??

All seems a bit ludicrous.
