When hurling, which dates back a few millennia in Irish history, opens another season in San Francisco in June, a local team could bring home the amateur North American County Board championship for the third year in a row.

Hurling is a fast-moving game that mixes elements of field hockey and lacrosse and is played with 30- to 40-inch sticks called "hurleys." Points are scored by firing a ball at a net.
