QuoteTwo Independent TDs will attend Cabinet meetings as super junior ministers under an agreement reached to pave the way for the formation of the next government.
The Regional Independent Group will have two ministers at the Cabinet table, but they will not hold senior ministries.
It is likely that these posts will go to Galway East TD Seán Canney and Galway West TD Noel Grealish.
Seven TDs from the Regional Independents are set to support the next government as part of an agreement with Fianna Fáil and Fine Gael.
Meanwhile, Independent TDs Michael and Danny Healy-Rae have also reached an agreement to support the incoming government.
Tonight they are only saying "job done" and will reveal more details of their agreement early tomorrow.
The Cabinet breakdown will see Fianna Fáil hold eight senior roles to Fine Gael's seven.
It is expected that Micheál Martin will hold the office of Taoiseach until some point in 2027 and possibly for a longer duration than the Fine Gael leader...

I am glad none of the left wing parties are involved, make FF/FG plus assorted Independents own it and hopefully present a left wing alternative at the next election (though I am not confident that that the various left wing parties can be that coordinated).

Fine Gael and Fianna Fail are as good as left wing these days.
In the last decade they have:
- Massively increased public spending, and welfare costs.
- Brought in abortion and gay marriage.
- Opted for open borders
- Were soft on crime.

And people still call them right wing!

Some mess in the Dáil this afternoon.

People can't get houses or appointments and are on huge waiting lists for surgery.

But don't worry, we'll sort it for our wee cabal to get speaking rights while they're on the opposition benches...but supporting us...from over there.

Embarrassing by FFG and Murphy.

Shamrock Shore

It's shocking that these bloody Government-supporting independents want their cake and eat it.

Verona out of her depth.

Dougal Maguire

There's no doubt about it Verona is in difficulties
Careful now

fearbrags

They had a good Ceann Comhairle in the  last  Dáil , Everybody seemed to be happy with him , they should have stuck with him

marty34

I don't think it's her fault.

She's been hung out to dry by FFG.

Nail on the head.

Did they not all get pay bumps on the back of being now Super Junior Ministers and that.

It seems to be the usual characters (chancers), the sort of boys if you shook their hand you would have to count your fingers afterwards.

Captain Scarlet

I have to laugh at the FFG lads saying that this is wasting time that should be spent on more important things.
The self same lads who want to take a two-week break as soon as the Taoiseach is in place. Which the opposition are also speaking out against.

Somone on RTÉ News was asking if there is more at play. Like it's a fair hill to die on for the sake of a few independents.
them mysterons are always killing me but im grand after a few days.sickenin aul dose all the same.

You'd imagine they could have arranged for the 4 TDs in question to have a few minutes of Government time on a rota.

Ff/FGcoming out of this very badly.
Thought Mary Raggan in Rte news web called in in her last two paragraphs .
Humility lacking .

Is the any defending this stunt? Is it not incredibly cynical? Imagine if SF tried to pull a fast one like this. "Undemocratic party, not fit for government blah blah".

johnnycool

So these "independents" who now support the government and ensure they've a majority want to sit as opposition as that allows them more speaking rights?

Apart from the absurdness of it, is that the crux of it?

Surely as part of the support agreement they'd have that sorted with FG/FF!

Nothing would surprise me if that Tipp shyster in Lowry was in the middle of it.

Common statement, but in the end it seems to make no difference.
