Quote from: weareros on November 30, 2024, 09:36:20 PMIreland has actually one of the youngest populations in Europe, second lowest in EU after Cyprus. It also has one of lowest over 65s. An aging country is not the reason there was no strong vote for change.

It is?

Yes it is.

https://www.independent.ie/business/irish/irelands-younger-and-growing-population-bucks-eu-trend/a1895710756.html

And the graph you provided has this context in the article about Ireland.

"However, it has the youngest population of any European Union member state[3] and its population size is predicted to grow for many decades, in contrast with the declining population predicted for most European countries."

This age thing is just lazy X analysis blaming older populations. If younger population want change they have the voting power. Sure maybe it was the weather. The poor craythurs.

Quote from: armaghniac on November 30, 2024, 11:29:08 PMWhy is there a male surplus in U20s. Female infanticide?
There is a bulge of teenagers there about to hit third level institutions, but which will provide players for GAA teams.

Now why would there be a Male surplus in the 20's? Just think about it!

I know why there is a male surplus in the 20s, it is the under 20s I asked about.

Sorry misread. Yeah, that's a good question.

Just a general take away from election:

FFG should merge. The big two slipping points in every election but voting for each other as 2nd preferences. Now there's 3 smaller parties.

SF did well/not so well depending on your starting comparsion point. Didn't call for left alliance soon enough.

Junior party don't go into government with FFG i.e. Geen Party.

Labour and Soc. Democrats should merge.

Aontu a one man band â la TUV.

II are a rural based, mainly western based party.

Would there have been plenty of young lads that traditionally left, migrated and now have stayed because covid has limited travel for a period and a better economy means that they can stay and earn as much here than elsewhere?
None of us are getting out of here alive, so please stop treating yourself like an after thought. Ea

Good summary.
II's 3 elected candidates to date would gave got in again anyway.
It's a Farmers Party and right of centre.
Aontú a leader without a party.
As for SF and left....
Left wing parties don't do populism.

Quote from: andoireabu on November 30, 2024, 06:01:57 PMWhat are the tallies about if not the first preference votes? Is it how they work out the quota?

Tallies are for election geeks who can't wait for the final result. They also help parties see where their vote is, where they could do better etc.

Tallies are for Parties and Candidates to prepare themselves for the day ahead. To have a narrative ready for the media. To be prepared psychologically to deal with a negative result. It's a tough, draining day for many.

They are the political dichotomy upon which the state is literally founded. I don't think you understand that families are usually strictly FG or FF.

PBP, Labour and SF should amalgamate and form a new party given they really have no difference in their political positions.

He's on about the U20s. There is a male surplus at 20 year old grouping because of the influx of migrants and asylum seekers who are predominantly male.
