Probably one of the most Boring Elections ever. 14 years of Fine Gael and the people want more. Most of their former incumbents have sailed off into the sunset with their fat pensions and are been replaced with little fanfare.

I suppose the 40/50/60+ year olds are the only people voting. People with their mortgages paid, their penions sorted and their jobs sorted. Most younger than that have left the country, or cannot vote.

The picture below says it all....

Thousands of young ones have been added to the electoral register recently, if they didn't vote, don't complain

Leading fascist Philip Dwyer got 435 votes out of 53,000 in Wicklow.

Ireland has actually one of the youngest populations in Europe, second lowest in EU after Cyprus. It also has one of lowest over 65s. An aging country is not the reason there was no strong vote for change.

Quote from: weareros on November 30, 2024, 09:06:17 PMCould she do a Hail Mary and offer FF 4 years as Taoiseach versus Simon Harris insisting on a rotating Taoiseach? Depends on the gaps between parties.

Why do that?

You only end up doing a Lim Dem in the UK and end up owning the government failures for things you were not able to drive your way.

For several reasons. A commitment from a FF/SF government that they will press for a border poll in 2030 (it's in the power of a UK SOS but still better then a FF/FG saying it's not a priority). They can also insist on getting Housing. Long shot I know. They will be more comfortable going into opposition.

100%. If the ozzie/brit/canadian/middle eastern diaspora  voted we'd slap them

Back to the real world
Predictions FF and FG 80 to 82 seats.
If so probably deals with gene pool Indies.

I remember a Jack Lynch led Fianna Fail won 84 Seats in 1977. 75 was needed for a majority.
There were some incredible promises for to get that amount elected.

Yes, abolishing rates. SF promised to abolish the property tax this time, but most people had more sense.

It is?

Why is there a male surplus in U20s. Female infanticide?
There is a bulge of teenagers there about to hit third level institutions, but which will provide players for GAA teams.

You will notice there is a drop in the 27 to 40 year olds. These have left us. There is also then a drop in the 0 to 8 year olds - these are the the kids of the 27 to 40 year olds who are gone.
