Regardless, this is simply not a hill worth dying on for the Dems. Fight for stuff like equal protection and their right to serve in the military. The sports thing just doesn't have the popular support.

The thing about the transgender sports is a much bigger deal than some people are making it out to be

Just one example here in New England-Girls Ice Hockey is huge

Parents can pay in the tens of thousands of dollars per year for their kids to play at the highest level. The commitment required is bordering on insanity.  These girls essentially put their lives on hold for 5-6 years in order to make a D1 or D2 college team.

So after all that your kid could possibly get seriously injured, miss out on a lucrative scholarship, lose a high profile championship game etc etc, just because some biological male (who'd never  make the boys team) is suffering from gender dysphoria and starts playing on the girls team

No wonder people are up in arms

There's a kid who lives about 5 houses away from me

He "transitioned" from a boy to a girl.

But they/he/she is a Lesbian and is in a "relationship" with another girl who's also a lesbian

He was a weird kid growing up-always doing crazy things looking for attention. Threatened to kill himself many times to blackmail the parents into letting him do whatever the hell he wanted

He's about as transgender as I am. All a big act. Parents 100% to blame

not to speak for anyone else. But I would be fairly left side of centre. And while I have no bother with people calling themselves whatever they want and would support that right. But where I draw the line is when that starts to negatively impact others. Sport highlights this issue for me. I understand there are grey areas but I can't get on board with it. I think there has to be a line, if not for fairness, for safety. I have no issue with a Trans category if required.
Not directly impacted I suppose other than mild annoyance at what I see as an unfair sporting advantage.

100% agree but who's fault is it that it's getting so much airtime. The Republicans might push it but do the Dems need to fight it so fiercely given the level of support? And this wouldn't be something that would impact my political view anyway as it's not a huge issue.
As J70 said, it's not a hill to die on for me. And just gives the Republicans grist for the mill.
