GAA Discussion / Re: RG at arms length

It's a silly move by Gallagher. Any case against the GAA will mean that they (GAA) will present all of the his court case details on his alleged domestic abuse. From what I hear that will not be pretty!
The reality is that is there was no contract with Naas and if he goes down that route he'll have to declare what he was promised. There is no case to answer here and Gallagher is on a hiding to nothing.

Well done to McEntee for having the ability to read the room.
It's not a job for the feint hearted but it does require both experience and energy. Please do not chase and throw money at high profile has-beens. Learn from past mistakes.

Yep heard him on OTB. You'd nearly think they had a great season by the sounds of him. Seemed delighted with things. The excuses were well lined up too.
One of the best panel of players in the country didn't win a match all year Paddy, that's not super!

Sorry to see Dermot McAleese go. A top quality player and will be a big big loss for Antrim. Hope that is not the start of a raft of departures.
Was surprised to see McEntee commenting. Does that mean he is staying? I hope not for everyones sake.

Quote from: Milltown Row2 on June 16, 2025, 12:44:07 PMThe current Cargin manager has to be in the mix if he was interested. Its hard to know if you are a coach/manager, an up and coming one, what would be best for your development, the Antrim job can be a graveyard for managers that move on..

As for ones saying there's no pressure? The pressure is on it from the start, the minute he makes his panel of coaching staff to his first panel of players named

Thankless task and you'd need the skin of a rhino to brush off the criticism

Would agree with this in that the Antrim job in many ways is a graveyard job. No-one comes out of it smelling of roses yet they all get huge criticism. It's definitely not an attractive role.
Has McEntee stepped down? If he doesnt I assume he'll be told to go, or is that harsh?

Announced that they will contribute 50million. This combined with 120million already locked in. With 15m from GAA that means there is now 185m. This is short of the 260m required but the Irish Gov have yet to step up which they have promised to do. With the GAA saying they can stretch futher then it would appear that between the GAA and the Irish Gov they now have to find 75m.

I would say this is a step in the right direction but not over the line yet. Hopefully this gives it all a kick start!

Quote from: Jim Bob on June 09, 2025, 05:15:36 PMI listen to the podcast most weeks and I have noticed that even though it is supposed to be a discussion between two people on the topics of the day Joe is speaking the vast majority of the time. When Dion wants to make a point and Joe wishes to speak Joe interrupts Dion and talks over him until Dion eventually gives way. Joe isn't the greatest listener in the world !

...and the prize for stating the absolute obvious goes to?..

Antrim, Carlow, Clare, Fermanagh, Laois, Leitrim, London, Longford, Monaghan, New York, Sligo, Waterford, Westmeath and Wicklow have never won it.

In the last 25yrs only 6 counties have won it. 11 counties in 50yrs.
Of those who have never won it only Monaghan have ever come close and I wouldnt say they have been very close, All Ireland semi on a few occasions.

Quote from: bannside on June 10, 2025, 03:46:15 PMProbably best to see how the dust settles in the next few weeks, eg Countys thinking on it, Andys own thinking on it. We are in no mad rush here...that's the upside of being one of the the first counties to have exited the scene in 2025!

There's plenty of credible candidates out there and division four is a great opportunity for both management and the team to bounce back.

It feels like a season that got steadily worse as it went on and fizzled out very poorly at the end. It's poor no matter how you look at it. McEntee just needs to do the right thing now and do it quickly. Allow the county board time to set up a process for a new man and allow him get to club games and get a fresh start.

The GAA going to Westminster yesterday based on an invite from the Alliance party was an unusual situation to say the least. Either it was a big PR window dressing opportunity for Alliance and a complete waste of time or there has been a deal done and this was part of the process. I sincerely hope its the later.

This project is an absolute embarrassment for Stormont and its merry band of bigots who see it as their job to halt progress at every step. It's shameful and history will not be kind to them.

Looking to next week with hope but not a lot of confidence of the right decision being made.

Mc Guinness needs someone/something to blame on.

Exactly. Play week on week and cut down the endless training.
The likes of McGuinness always has his ready made excuse for injuries, schedules to blame nothing to do with his over training of players of course.

Down / Re: Down Club Hurling & Football

Excellent performance on Sat night. With relegation and a few stuttering performances and missed opportunities it was hard to see where Down were going but Sat night has answered a few questions. If they can manage a win over Monaghan then that will be genuine progress as they need to take a scalp at some stage.

Hard to know where Antrim are at. A win over London, could still have been out on score difference as Leitrim beat Tipperary by 9 but Antrims score difference squeezes them through by 5. Away to Wexford now, should be winnable but the jury is very much out!

Quote from: ck on May 29, 2025, 07:21:39 PMDown should have too much for Louth. In saying that I have been disappointed with Down under Laverty, they just havent made the progress I expected and are not really any further on from 2 years ago. I hope the next 2 weeks will prove me wrong though.

Down have beaten Donegal. Won the t cup. Beat monaghan in clones. Lost narrowly in drogheda and cavan. Not many teams get relegation on six points. May I ask have u attended many games this year? The progression is obvious. Seriously young squad. Hope you are going on Saturday.

Happy to be corrected and admittedly I've only seen Down once this year, twice tomorrow I hope.
Beating a mess of a Donegal team under Paddy Carr and Aidan O'Rourke is hardly a reference point, nor is winning the TCup. These would be regarded as fully expected. Relegation was not expected, but it happened and does not point to progress.
