Just 5 years ago. In fairness some turn around in fortunes for Derry but they never were a division 4 side anyway.

Just four players from that starting team still playing. The new players introduced improved the quality significantly.

Quote from: NotedObserver on March 24, 2024, 09:49:17 PMThe experienced heads that dropped off the panel have been missed massively over the last couple of years.

The lads can either give up or learn from this and raise their level over the years to come

there is no learning in a stuffing like that other then the psychological superiority grip the opposition have over you.

Quote from: AllStar15 on March 21, 2024, 11:59:24 AMAre Ballinderry and Lavey both division 2 and Intermediate or have I picked that up wrong?

Lavey are in Division 2 (relegated from Division 1 last season) and will play senior championship
Ballinderry are in Division 1 and will play in the intermediate championship (relegated from the senior championship last season)

league and championship are not linked, they are 'decoupled'

Quote from: bannside on March 07, 2024, 11:25:33 AMDon't see EL causing any problems  he has settled in well and hopefully will lead a forward line that I feel was far too individual in the past. He's popular with players and management and might just add that extra % in terms of belief.

Got a serious run of away fixtures to all the top sides in the second half of the league, but tbh, whatever way it pans out, round here there's only one monkey that needs to be eliminated, and that's the only priority.

well that will be a first, in truth likely next year when a leopard who doesn't change his spots surfaces, due to 1st yr syndrome.

Its interesting to read that one poster doesn't think our county players sacrifice anything to play county football.  :o

Quote from: Wildweasel74 on March 04, 2024, 11:10:21 AMRow, u lads not about when they were proper rows In the 90's. Think Meath v Mayo, Laois v Louth. The reason so many lads get involved in stuff now, is half them know they not get buried.I think if they bring in red cards for grabbing players by the throat, and yellow card every man coming Into a melee a start, whole f**king team or not. Ref not stand back and let it escalate. They would been more involved  to break it up years ago.I was at Ice hockey other nite and the refs were in the players face the minute they squared off.Years ago it was just a beating session.

Just loved that post, no truer words. 'The reason so many lads get involved in stuff now, is half them know they not get buried'  ;D  ;D  ;D lol on the money

Derry and Kerry are not like for like. Harte had to put his best foot forward, due to the nature of defection. A new man in, winning and everyone is on a crest. Kerry third year with Jack, won the league and championship in year one. Getting back to that format after an average year last season. Good leagues generally means your in the final shake up in the championship

Jez lads, wise up. Soccer like gaa is now possession based. Beggan couldn't pass nor trap a ball at the level needed ffs.No doubt his shot stopping would be as good as any, but its all about possession and passing.

Quote from: Derry Optimist on January 29, 2024, 08:48:54 PMNo matter which way you look at Saturday night's game against Kerry one must commend Derry for both the quality and intensity of their play. Unlike many Derry teams of the past they also have the resilience and determination to come back immediately after conceding a score and score themselves.

Now that they have set high standards for themselves I feel that they lack a consistent long distance free taker. Presumably management is aware of this and it is difficult to see any of the current starters successfully taking over this role. Over the past few years Niall Loughlin,Conor Doherty and now Conor Glass have been tried in this role with varying degrees of success.Perhaps posters have some ideas on how this area of the team's development could be improved. Perhaps Odhran Lynch and Ciaran McFaul are secretly training g to improve their long distance accuracy!!

Looking forward to another good performance against Tyrone. It would be nice if Eoin McEvoy and his clubmate, Cormac Murphy, would both be available to start and that Oisin McWilliams and Enda Downey would be able to take their places on the bench.

Not sure why the new thread?

What's the story with all the Downey's? All now playing football in Antrim, none seem to have kicked on at all? Are they dogged with injuries?

Seriously what has Enda Downey done to get that promotion in your opinion D.O. Have seen hi a few times and he has been underwhelming.

Somebody tell Leo this isn't rugby. Hope Leo isn't a ref. How anyone could justify that as red is beyond me, outside of having done something in the pushing shoving afterwards.
